Subject: OCTOBER IS A BUSY MONTH

ARRIVING TO SCHOOL ON TIME - Many of our students have been arriving late to school, whether they arrive by car or by bus, partly due to the closing of some major roads in the city. The office is working to improve this bus situation, and we are also adjusting the bell system so it agrees with the time that is registered by dialing “196” on the phones. We feel it is important for students to arrive on time—so they have ample time to put their things away in lockers or cubbies, greet their friends, and get settled so they are ready for instruction by 8:00 a.m.
MAP TESTING concluded last week. Teachers will present the results to the parents during the first quarter conferences..
OPERA: The Middle and High School students will be attending the Opera “Cavalleria Rusticana” at the Manuel Bonilla National Theatre today. This was arranged by our Music teachers, and several teachers are accompanying the students.
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY WORKSHOP – Isabel Medina (Juan Daniel’s mother in Pre-K) is flying in a specialist that will give a workshop at the Marriott Hotel on Saturday October 16th and a private follow up workshop for our teachers on Monday October 18th from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.
UNITEC - The Seniors will be visiting UNITEC as part of their university visits program. The date will be confirmed soon; however we will try to schedule it for Friday, October 22, after the UN Day celebration, in order to avoid class disruptions.
BLOGS AND WIKISPACES are updated before 8:00 am every Monday. Please let us know is this method of communication is helpful in keeping you informed about your child’s classes.
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT POSITION – María Gutierrez, Administrative Assistant, has resigned for personal reasons. If you know of someone who is qualifies for this position please talk to me as soon as possible. Basic requirements are: fully bilingual; excellent Microsoft Office skills; efficient, organized and dependable.
CAFETERIA NEWS: The Cafeteria is having fun nutritious food for little kids every Wednesday. Check out the October Menu and give yourself a break from lunchboxes once a week. We are now taking Orders for Halloween Classroom Celebrations. Just ask and we'll make it! Freshly cooked and baked right before delivery to classroom. And don’t forget to check out the New Healthy Smoothies as well!

LLEGAR A LA ESCUELA A TIEMPO – Muchos de nuestros alumnos han estado llegando tarde a la escuela, ya sea que vengan en carro en el bus, en parte se debe al cierre de algunas rutas en la ciudad. La oficina esta trabajando en mejorar la situación de los buses, también se esta ajustando la campana para que este acorde con la hora registrada al marcar “196” en el teléfono. Creemos que es importante que nuestros alumnos lleguen a tiempo de manera que tengan suficiente tiempo de colocar sus cosas en los casilleros o estantes, saludar a sus amigos y prepararse para recibir clases a las 8:00 a.m.
LOS EXAMENS MAP Finalizaron esta semana. Los maestros presentaran los resultados a los padres de familia durante las conferencias del primer parcial.
OPERA: Los alumnos de secundaria asistirán a la Opera “Cavalleria Risticana” en el Teatro Nacional Manuel Bonilla el día de hoy. Esta actividad fue preparada por los maestros de música y varios maestros acompañaran a los alumnos.
TALLER DE TERAPIA OCUPACIONAL – Isabel Medina (madre de Juan Daniel en PK) es trayendo del extranjero a una especialista que impartirá un taller en el Hotel Marriot el día Sábado 16 de Octubre y un taller privado para nuestros maestros el Lunes 18 de Octubre de 3:30 a 5:30 p.m.
UNITEC- Los Seniors visitaran UNITEC como parte de su programa de visitas a universidades. La fecha se confirmara pronto; sin embargo, trataremos de calendarizarla para el Viernes 22 de Octubre después de la Celebración de las Naciones Unidad para asi evitar perder clases.
LOS BLOGS Y WIKIS son actualizados todos los lunes antes de las 8:00 a.m. Por favor háganos saber si este método de comunicación es útil al mantenerlo informado acerca de las clases de sus hijos.
ASISTENTE ADMINISTRATIVA – Maria Gutiérrez, Asistente Administrativa, ha renunciado por razones de tipo personal. Si conoce a alguien que sea califique para esta posición por favor hable conmigo lo mas pronto posible. Requisitos básicos: Bilingüe, excelentes habilidades en Microsoft Office, eficiente organizada e independiente.
NOTICIAS DE LA CAFETERIA: La cafetería esta preparando comida nutritiva para los pequeñitos cada Miércoles. Revise el Menú de Octubre y dese un descanso de preparar loncheras una vez a la semana. Estamos tomando órdenes para las celebraciones en las aulas el día de Halloween. Solo pida y lo haremos! Cocinado y horneado fresco, justo antes de entregarlo al aula. No se olvide de probar los nuevos granizados saludables también!

We plan to also hold meetings late afternoon as soon as the weather improves. HELP US SELL “A TASTE OF DISCOVERY” – PRICES HAVE GONE DOWN! The DPTO requests your assistance in selling the Discovery School cookbook, “A Taste of Discovery”. There are a few ways in which you can help: selling at your place of business, selling to a few friends, advertising the book. Sales prices have been altered as follows: one copy for 400Lps; two or three copies for 300Lps each; four or more copies for 250 Lps each copy. Once printing costs are paid off, all cookbook sales will produce profit that will be directed to school projects that will enhance our campus and beautify our school.

Nuestro primer encuentro tendrá lugar el 06 de octubre a las 8 am en la cafetería de la escuela. Orden del día: Día de las Naciones Unidas, Día de Fotos y el festival de la canción. Únase a nosotros! Le pedimos disculpas a los padres que no pueden asistir a las reuniones durante la mañana. Estamos planeando realizar las reuniones por la tarde cuando el tiempo y las condiciones mejoren. Si a usted le gustaría participar en alguna de las actividades que el DPTO propone pero no puede asistir a las reuniones, por favor póngase en contacto con uno de los oficiales del DPTO.
AYUDENOS A VENDER EL RECETARIO "A TASTE OF DISCOVERY" – LOS PRECIOS HAN BAJADO-
El DPTO solicita su ayuda en la venta del libro de cocina de Discovery School, "A Taste of Discovery". Hay algunas maneras en que usted puede ayudar: vendiendolo en su lugar de negocio, vendiéndolo a sus amigos, haciéndole publicidad. Los precios de venta han sido modificados de la siguiente manera: una copia para 400Lps, dos o tres copias de 300Lps cada uno, cuatro o más copias de 250 lempiras cada copia. Una vez que los costos de impresión se pagan, todas las ventas de libros de cocina se producen fines de lucro que se destinarán a los proyectos escolares que mejorarán nuestro campus y embellecerán nuestra escuela.
