ARTS FESTIVAL – This is it! The big event is this week! We will host the judges’ meeting on Friday afternoon
and the events will be held on Saturday. Thank you to everyone who has worked

MAP
TESTING – This is the third and final week for this MAP testing
session.
MIDTERM
AND MAP REPORTS - It is hard to believe that this Wednesday, February 6,
marks the middle of the third quarter. Except for the Kindergarten MAP reports,
Midterm and MAP reports will be issued to students on Thursday, February 14. Special
conferences will be set up for our Kindergarten parents so the teachers can
present and explain the MAP results. If
you have any questions, please ask your child’s teacher.

ELEMENTARY SCIENCE FAIR: This year’s Elementary Science Fair is on February 27. Lower grades (Kindergarten to Grade 2 are working on their science class project to present to the upper elementary grades.
Ms. Maricarmen has 20 red display boards in her classroom that can be bought for 150 lempiras—they will go to the first ones who bring the money. Money collected will be used to reimburse the initial cost of the boards and cover some of the Science Fair expenses.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES – This is week 2 of
our second semester session for After School Activities. Please be sure that
your child is picked up promptly at 4:00 p.m.
GRADE LEVEL PARENT MEETINGS – Ms. Giles has been
meeting with parents by grade level. Relevant information from those meetings
will be shared with the teachers in an effort to foster communication and
continually improve our program. The schedule is as follows (all meetings start
at 8:00 a.m. in the Library):

ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION (AAIE) – Ms.
Giles will be away from school from February 13-19 to attend the Annual
Conference of the AAIE in San Francisco, California. During that time, she will
have daily access to email.
SECURITY ON FIELD TRIPS - The U.S. Embassy has offered to either provide
security for us on field trips or contact the place the students are visiting
to ensure the security at that site. Ms. Giles will inform them of any field
trips when she receives the teacher's field trip form for her approval.

Two
college student janitors are stuck in a therapy group meeting and one of
them, a reader of Shakespeare, ends up being the facilitator because the real
group leader is running late. The
therapy group is a room full nuts: one believes she is a CIA operative,
another makes bodily noises, then there’s the hypochondriac and the
narcoleptic, and the sarcastic girl, and finally, the one who cries over
everything. Of course, a comedy
wouldn’t be complete without an exploding toilet.

BLOGS: From the
parent meetings that have already taken place, we have learned that we need to
provide parents with more information about the teachers' and administrators'
blogs.
Every teacher
has his/her own blog and updates it weekly. Each administrator also has a blog,
and these have important information for parents. All of the blogs can be
accessed through the school's webpage (www.discoveryschool.edu.hn) under the "Information" tab, Teachers Blogs, and then select
the blog that you want to read.

FESTIVAL DEL LENGUAJE ABSH – Ya está aquí! Esta semana es el gran
evento! Tendremos la reunión de los jueces el día viernes por la tarde y las
competencias se realizarán el día sábado. Agradecemos a cada uno de los que han
trabajado para lograr que este evento sea todo un éxito, y a todos los alumnos que
estarán compitiendo de la Escuela Discovery les deseamos suerte.

con los Seniors antes del martes 5 de febrero. Las órdenes que se reciban después
de ese día no serán registradas. Los formularios se enviaron a casa con los
alumnos el pasado jueves 31 de enero.
VENTA DE MINUTAS este viernes 8 de febrero para el festival de arte

EXÁMENES MAP – Esta es la tercera y última semana para esta sesión de
exámenes MAP.
REPORTES DE MEDIO PERIODO Y MAP – Es difícil creer que este miércoles 6 de febrero marca
la mitad del tercer parcial. A excepción de los reportes de MAP de Kinder, los
reportes de medio periodo y MAP serán entregados a los alumnos el día jueves 14
de febrero. Se harán conferencias especiales con los padres de Kinder de modo
que los maestros puedan presentarles y explicarles los resultados de los exámenes
MAP. Si tienen alguna pregunta, por favor diríjase al maestro de su hijo(a).
MUSEO EGIPCIO: Los alumnos de 5to grado les invitan a la presentación
de su clase de la Antigua Civilización Egipcia el miércoles 6 de febrero. El
recorrido toma alrededor de 15 minutos. Los alumnos han preparado un corto
drama, juegos, esquina de lectura, puestos de comida, casas y maquillaje.
Invitamos a los padres a asistir y observar lo que sus hijos han estado aprendiendo
acerca de Egipto. Seguiremos el siguiente horario:

FERIA DE CIENCIAS DE PRIMARIA: La Feria de Ciencias de Primaria de este año es el 27
de febrero. Los grados más pequeños (de Kinder a 2do grado) están trabajando
en sus proyectos de ciencias de la clase para presentársela a los grados
mayores de primaria.
Ms.
Maricarmen tiene 20 trifolios en su aula que pueden ser adquiridos por L.150-se
le venderán a los primeros que lleguen con el dinero. El dinero recolectado
será usado para reembolsar el costo inicial de los trifolios y para cubrir
algunos gastos de la Feria de Ciencias.
ACTIVIDADES EXTRACURRICULARES – Esta en la segunda semana para las sesiones del
segundo semestre de las Actividades Extracurriculares. Por favor asegúrese de
recoger a su hijo(a) a las 4:00 p.m. en punto.
REUNIONES CON PADRES, POR GRADO – Ms. Giles se ha estado reuniendo con los padres de
cada grado. Información importante de esas sesiones será compartida con los
maestros como un esfuerzo para mejorar la comunicación y mejorar continuamente
nuestro programa. A continuación detallamos el calendario (todas las reuniones comienzan

INTERNACIONAL (AAIE) - Ms. Giles estará fuera de la escuela desde el 13 al 19
de febrero para asistir a la Conferencia Anual de la AAIE en San Francisco,
California. Durante ese tiempo tendrá acceso diariamente al correo electrónico.
SEGURIDAD EN LOS PASEOS - La embajada Americana ha ofrecido coordinar seguridad para los paseos de nuestros alumnos o comunicarse con el lugar que visiten para asegurarse que sea un lugar seguro. Ms. Giles les informará sobre cualquier paseo cuando ella reciba la forma de la solicitud para ser aprobada.

Dos jóvenes conserjes, estudiantes
universitarios, se quedan estancados en una reunión de terapia de grupo, y
uno de ellos, a quien le gusta leer mucho a Shakespeare, termina siendo el
facilitador ya que el líder del grupo llegará tarde. La terapia de grupo está llena de locos:
uno se cree agente de la CIA, otro hace ruidos con su cuerpo, esta también el
hipocondriaco y el narcoléptico, la chica sarcástica, y finalmente, el que
llora por todo. Por supuesto, la comedia no estaría completa sin una
explosión de baño.

padres. Todos estos blog pueden ser encontrados a través de la pagina web de la

desee leer.
