REPORT CARDS AND CONFERENCES FOR THE SECOND QUARTER – Report Cards will be given out on Friday, January 17. Notifications
for these conferences need to be sent home on Monday, January 13. If
a parent does not receive a notice from a teacher but would like to meet for a
conference, please contact the teacher to set up a time for the afternoon of
Friday, January 17. Students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m, and conferences
will be held from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. or as needed
SECOND SESSION FOR MAP TESTING – The second testing session for MAP will begin on Tuesday, January 21.
NEW POLICY FOR LATE WORK – Please remember that the new LATE WORK POLICY for Grades 4 and above
went into effect on Tuesday, January 7, for the rest of the school year. This
is a requirement for all teachers of these grades, and all teachers for these grades should be enforcing it for
consistency across all grade levels.
CHOIR CLINIC – The older students
in the Discovery School Choir have been invited to participate in the First
Choral Clinic for Bilingual Schools in Honduras. It will be hosted by The
American School of Tegucigalpa, and will take place on Friday January 17 and
Saturday 18. Our students will be working with Dr. Paul Hondorp, a doctor in
choral conducting who will share his experience with all of participants.
FROM THE COUNSELOR’S OFFICE:
- This Tuesday, January 14, at 11:05 a.m., we will
have a representative from Augustana College in South Dakota, visiting the
Juniors and Seniors.
- The 6th grade girls will be attending a "
Speak Up" talk on how they can speak their minds in order to make
their ideas and dreams come true and overcome the fear of speaking freely
for what they believe in. This will take place this Friday, January 17
during the first class period. Part of the presentation will be the music
video “Brave” by Sarah Bareilles.
PICTURES FOR THE YEARBOOK – If you have
photos that we might use in this year’s Yearbook, please provide those on a CD
or flash drive to your child’s Area Administrator (Gloria, Cristiana, or Nora.)
HOLIDAY – There will be no school on
Monday, January 20 in
recognition of the contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
For Middle and High School:
REMINDER FOR PARENTS – Please take
note that the passing grade according to the Ministry of Education is now 70%.
If your child scored less that 70% in the final grade for the second quarter,
then he/she needs to take a recuperation exam scheduled on Saturday, January 25 at 8:00
a.m.

CALIFICACIONES Y
CONFERENCIAS PARA EL SEGUNDO TRIMESTRE – Las calificaciones serán entregadas el
viernes 17 de enero. Las notificaciones de estas conferencias
se enviarán a casa el lunes 13 de enero. Si un padre no recibe una
nota de un maestro pero desea reunirse para una conferencia, por favor
comuníquese con el maestro para concertar una hora para la tarde del viernes 17
de enero. Los alumnos saldrán a las 11:45 a.m., y las conferencias se llevarán
a cabo desde las 12:30 a las 3:30 p.m. o según sea necesario.
SEGUNDA SESION DE
EXÁMENES MAP – La
segunda sesión de los exámenes MAP comenzará el martes 21 de enero.
NUEVA POLITICA DE
ENTREGA TARDE DE TRABAJOS – Por favor recuerde que la nueva política
de ENTREGA RETRASADA DE TRABAJOS para los grados de 4to para arriba entró en
vigencia el martes 7 de enero, y continuará el resto del año escolar. Este es
un requerimiento para todos los maestros de estos grados, y todos los maestros deben estar reforzándolo para tener
consistencia en todos los niveles.
CLINICA PARA COROS - Los alumnos mayores del Coro de la Escuela
Discovery han sido invitados a participar en la Primera Clinica para Coros de
escuelas bilingües en Honduras. Este evento está siendo patrocinado por la
Escuela Americana de Tegucigalpa, y se llevará a a cabo el viernes 17 y sábado
18 de enero. Nuestros alumnos estarán trabajando con el Dr. Paul Hondorp, un
doctor en conducción de coros quien estará compartiendo sus experiencias con
todos los participantes.

- Este martes 14 de enero, a las
11:05 a.m., tendremos un representante de la Universidad Augustana de Dakota del Sur, visitando a
los Juniors y Seniors.
- Las alumnas de 6to grado
asistirán a una charla “Speak Up” de cómo pueden expresar sus pensamientos
de manera que sus ideas y sueños se vuelvan realidad y superen el miedo de

– Por favor tome nota que ahora la calificación para pasar de acuerdo al
Ministerio de Educación es del 70%. Si su hijo(a) obtiene menos del 70% en su
nota final del segundo trimestre, entonces se tendrá que presentar a exámenes de
recuperación programados para el sábado
25 de enero a las 8:00 a.m.
