COMMUNICATION: The school and the DPTO continue to work together to consolidate communication via the Monday Memos. Please read the DPTO information below and participate in the many activities they organize.
MAP TESTING ends this week. Teachers will be sharing the results of these assessments with parents during the first quarter conferences.
OPERA: The Honduran Music Foundation has invited Discovery School to attend the Opera “Cavalleria Rusticana” at the Manuel Bonilla National Theatre on Monday October 4th at 10:00 am. This activity supports the curriculum for Music (6th, 7th and 8th), Art (9th and 10th), and Spanish (11th and 12th). Tickets are available for our students with Ms Norma for L.200. Our students will leave school (using school transportation) at 8:30 am, and return to school at 12:30 for their lunch and last 2 periods of class. Students are to dress formally – dark bottoms (slacks or skirts, and a dressy, formal shirt).
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY WORKSHOP – Isabel Medina (Juan Daniel’s mother in Pre-K) is flying in a specialist to present a workshop at the Marriott Hotel on Saturday, October 16.
DISCOVERY SCHOOL WORKSHOP – Our teachers have started working on their presentations for the annual Teacher’s Workshop at the Marriott Hotel. This event takes place on November 19th and 20th. Some of our parents may be contacted to donate prizes for the raffle at the end of the event. Your cooperation in this will be greatly appreciated.

STUDENTS LEAVING SCHOOL DURING THE SCHOOL DAY: For the safety and security of our students, parents must personally contact the Administration, in advance, if a student needs to leave during the school day. Without the personal communication, the student will not be allowed to leave the campus until school is dismissed.

DPTO Daring Diners – First Edition – Wednesday, September 29, at 7pm at Hotel Intercontinental!
Join us at Hotel Intercontinental for a Discovery School parents’ night out! This is a new initiative where we hope to explore different types of cuisine in Tegucigalpa while making new friends. This is not a fundraising event. The cost per person will be LPS300.00 (Three hundred Lempiras 00/100), including wine. While this event is focused on adults, those who cannot arrange child care for their kids are welcome to bring them along. Please contact DPTO representative Deborah Chibonga at deborahchibonga@yahoo.com by Monday night (September 27th) to confirm your attendance.

The first order of t-shirts and optional apparel took place on Friday, September 17th. Orders should be ready and delivered in approximately 14 days. If you would like more information please contact Lisset Martinez at lisloffre@hotmail.com.

Our first meeting will take place on October 6th at 8am at the school’s cafeteria. Agenda: UN Day, Photo Day and Song Fest. Join us! We apologize to parents who cannot attend morning meetings at this time. We plan to also hold meetings late afternoon as soon as the weather improves. If you would like to be in touch with the DPTO but cannot attend the meetings, please contact one of the DPTO representatives.
HELP US SELL “A TASTE OF DISCOVERY” – PRICES HAVE GONE DOWN!
The DPTO requests your assistance in selling the Discovery School cookbook, “A Taste of Discovery”. There are a few ways in which you can help: selling at your place of business, selling to a few friends, advertising the book. Sales prices have been altered as follows: one copy for 400Lps; two or three copies for 300Lps each; four or more copies for 250 Lps each copy. Once printing costs are paid off, all cookbook sales will produce profit that will be directed to school projects that will enhance our campus and beautify our school.

We need a volunteer that is interested in posting news and pictures on our blog, and help us turn it into an effective way of communication with the Discovery School community. MEMO PARA PADRES
COMUNICACIÓN: La escuela y el DPTO siguen trabajando juntos para consolidar la comunicación a través de los memorandos del lunes. Por favor, lea la información del DPTO que está abajo, y participe en las actividades que ellos organizan.
MAP TESTING: termina esta semana. Los maestros van a compartir los resultados de estas evaluaciones con los padres durante las conferencias del primer bimestre.
OPERA: La Fundación Hondureña de Música ha invitado a Discovery School para asistir a la ópera "Cavalleria Rusticana" en el Teatro Nacional Manuel Bonilla, el lunes 04 de octubre a las 10:00 a.m. Esta actividad apoya el plan de estudios de Música (6 º, 7 º y 8 º), Arte (9no y 10mo) y español (11vo y 12vo). Los boletos están disponibles para nuestros estudiantes con la Profesora Norma el precio es de L.200. Nuestros estudiantes saldrán de la escuela (usaran el transporte escolar) a las 8:30 de la mañana, y regresaran a la escuela a las 12:30 (a la hora del almuerzo) y para recibir los últimos 2 períodos de clase. Los estudiantes deben vestir formalmente – ropa oscura (pantalones o faldas, y vestir camisas o blusas formales).
TALLER DE TERAPIA OCUPACIONAL - Isabel Medina (madre de Juan Daniel en Pre-K) está trayendo del exterior a un especialista para presentar un taller en el Hotel Marriott el sábado, 16 de octubre.
TALLER DE LA ESCUELA DISCOVERY - Nuestros maestros han comenzado a trabajar en sus presentaciones para el Taller Anual De Discovery que se realizara en el Hotel Marriott. Este evento se llevara a cabo el 19 y 20 de noviembre.
Algunos de nuestros padres pueden ser contactados para donar premios para la rifa al final del evento. Su cooperación en este evento será muy apreciada.
BLOGS Y WIKIESPACES-no se olvide de visitar los blogs de los profesores todos los lunes y los Wikispaces.
ESTUDIANTES QUE SALEN DE LA ESCUELA EN HORAS DE CLASES: Por la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes, los padres deben ponerse en contacto personalmente a la Administración, de antemano, si un estudiante necesita salir durante horas de clase. Sin la comunicación personal, al estudiante no se le permitirá salir de la escuela hasta la hora de salida.

DPTO CENAS AUDACES - Primera Edición - Miércoles, 29 de septiembre a las 7pm en el Hotel Intercontinental!
Únase a nosotros en la primera noche de padres de la Escuela Discovery! Esta es una nueva iniciativa en la que esperamos explorar diferentes tipos de cocina en Tegucigalpa, al mismo tiempo en
que hacemos nuevas amistades. Este no es un evento para recaudación de fondos. El costo por persona será de LPS.300.00 (trescientos lempiras 00/100) por persona, incluyendo una copa de vino. Aunque este evento será principalmente para los adultos, tendremos el placer de recibir a niños también. AYUDENOS A VENDER EL RECETARIO "A TASTE OF DISCOVERY" – LOS PRECIOS HAN BAJADO- El DPTO solicita su ayuda en la venta del libro de cocina de Discovery School, "A Taste of Discovery". Hay algunas maneras en que usted puede ayudar: vendiendolo en su lugar de negocio, vendiéndolo a sus amigos, haciéndole publicidad. Los precios de venta han sido modificados de la siguiente manera: una copia para 400Lps, dos o tres copias de 300Lps cada uno, cuatro o más copias de 250 lempiras cada copia.
