DPTO for organizing (once again) a very successful Garage Sale!
DISCOVERY PARENT TEACHER
ORGANIZATION (DPTO)—We
also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the work that the DPTO has
put in for the good of the school. A special ‘thank you’ to the outgoing
officers: Alexanderia Haidara, President; Yessica Antunez,
Vice-President; Daniel Matamoros, Secretary, Ninoska Abate, Treasurer; and
Marielos Mejia, Blog Editor. We appreciate
you!
At the same time, we
welcome the new officers who have stepped up to serve the school and
students: Daniel Matamoros, President; Colin Baril, Vice-President; and Shayla
McCaul, Treasurer. We still need a Secretary and a DPTO Blogger. If you are
willing to offer your service in one of these areas, please call the school
(2221-7790) and let us know of your interest.
This year’s events were
possible because of the parents who made the effort and offered their time,
skills and ideas. We couldn’t do it without our parents—so be sure and join
when we return in August. Remember that at the General Assembly, the parents
voted to pay L. 200 per child for
DPTO membership fees. That can be paid in the Finance Office when you sign your
payment agreement for tuition and fees. This will greatly assist the DPTO in
funding their activities.
For Technology:
The DPTO has donated the
proceeds from the Fun Run in the amount of Lps.30,611.00, plus an
additional donation of Lps.12,478.00,
for a total of Lps.43,089.00. Thank you for your generosity! We’ll spend
it wisely.
NEW TEACHERS—The following new elementary teachers
have been hired for the 2013-2014 school year:
Ø Andrew Duryea—Mr. Duryea has a Bachelor of Arts and teaching
certification from the State of Michigan. For the past two years, he has been
teaching elementary students in Seoul, South Korea. Prior to beginning his
teaching career, Mr. Duryea was a member of the Peace Corps stationed in
Honduras.
Ø Diane Howard – Ms. Howard has a Bachelor of Arts, with a
Masters in Elementary Education, and teaching certification from New Hampshire.
Ms. Howard has 4 years of elementary teaching experience, and most
recently, Ms. Howard has taught Grade 5 in the Mayatan Bilingual School in Copan
Ruinas, Honduras.
Ø Ashley Pileika – Ms. Pileika has a Bachelor of Science from
Chapel Hill, North Carolina and a Certification in Elementary Education from
the State of Massachusetts. She has taught for the past 2 years in Olancho,
Honduras.
These teachers bring not
only the necessary and relevant qualifications and experience, but an
adventurous spirit and sincere love of teaching. We know that the Discovery
Community will extend our usual friendly welcome and make them feel right at
home.
CONCRETE PLANT UPDATE – The school has filed
official denuncias in four agencies, attaching the documents that parents and
teachers signed to each one. We are now in the process of investigating the
plant with technicians. The school's lawyer
is following all legal means of halting the development of the concrete plant. We invite and encourage parents to come
forward with any information, suggestion or idea that may help us with this
process by contacting Wendy Willemsen as President of the Board at wendywillemsen4@gmail.com.
We will continue to update the school community regularly with new
developments.
EARLY
DISMISSALS – Monday, June 3 is a full day of school. Tuesday, June 4, Wednesday, June
5 and Thursday, June 6 are early dismissal days (11:45 a.m.). We ask our
parents to plan accordingly.
AWARDS ASSEMBLY – This year’s
Awards Assembly will be held on Thursday, June 6 at 11:00 a.m. Parents are
welcome to come to this closing event of our school year (this is the last day
for students).
DISCOVERY ZONE 4 – Our Summer Camp is
back, beginning June 10. If you are interested in enrolling your child(ren)
please stop by the office to pick up the registration form or access the form
on our website (www.discoveryschool.edu.hn) Great discounts are available!
ENROLLMENT DRIVE: Do not forget that the Enrollment Drive to
attract new students to Discovery School is on, and ends on August 31, 2013.

VENTA DE GARAJE – Agradecemos al DPTO por organizar (una vez mas) una muy exitosa venta
de garaje!
ORGANIZACIÓN DE PADRES Y MAESTROS DE DISCOVERY (DPTO) – También queremos extender nuestro más sincero
agradecimiento por todo el trabajo que el DPTO ha realizado para el bienestar
de la escuela. Un muy especial “gracias” a los miembros salientes: Alexanderia

Los eventos de este año
fueron posibles gracias a los padres que hicieron el esfuerzo y proporcionaron
su tiempo, habilidades e ideas. No lo podríamos haber logrado sin nuestros
padres-así que acompáñenos cuando regresemos en Agosto. Recuerden que en la
Asamblea General, los padres votaron por pagar L.200 por alumno para la membrecía del DPTO. Esta cantidad puede
ser pagada en la Oficina de Contabilidad cuando firme su acuerdo de pago para
colegiatura. Esto ayudará en gran manera a financiar las actividades del DPTO.
Para Tecnología:
El DPTO ha donado las ganancias de la Caminata por la Diversión, con la
cantidad de Lps.30,611.00, además de una donación de Lps.12,478.00, lo que nos
da un total de Lps.43,089.00 Muchas
gracias por su generosidad! Lo usaremos sabiamente.
MAESTROS NUEVOS - Los siguientes maestros nuevos de
primaria han sido contratados para el año escolar 2013-2014:

experiencia en el área de primaria, y más recientemente, Ms. Howard daba clases
a 5to grado en la Escuela Bilingüe Mayatan en Ruinas de Copan, Honduras.
Ø Ashley
Pileika –Ms. Pileika posee una Licenciatura
en Ciencias de Chapel Hill, Carolina del Norte y un Certificado en Educación Primaria
del Estado de Massachusetts. Los últimos dos años ha estado dando clases en
Olancho, Honduras.
Estos maestros vienen no
solamente con las calificaciones y experiencia necesaria, sino que también con
un espíritu aventurero y sincero amor a la enseñanza. Sabemos que la comunidad
de Discovery les ofrecerá su acostumbrada bienvenida y los harán sentir como en
casa.
INFORMACION EN
LA PLANTA DE CEMENTO - La escuela ha presentado las denuncias oficiales en cuatro agencias,
donde se adjuntaron a cada denuncia los documentos que los padres y los
maestros firmaron. Ahora estamos en el proceso de investigación de la planta
con técnicos. El abogado de la escuela está utilizando todos los medios legales
para detener el desarrollo de la planta de cemento. Invitamos y animamos a los padres a traer y compartir cualquier
información, sugerencia o idea que nos pueda ayudar a mantener este proceso
vigente, comunicándose con Wendy Willemsen como Presidente de la Junta al
correo wendywillemsen4@gmail.com .
Continuaremos manteniendo a la comunidad escolar informada de manera regular,
con los nuevos resultados.
SALIDAS TEMPRANAS - El lunes 3 de junio es un día de
escuela completo. El martes 4 de junio, miércoles 5 de junio y jueves 6 de
junio son días de salidas tempranas (11:45 a.m.). Les pedimos a los padres que
planifiquen tomando en cuenta esto.
ASAMBLEA DE PREMIACION – Este año la Asamblea de Premiación se llevará a cabo
el jueves 6 de junio a las 11:00 a.m. Invitamos a los padres a acompañarnos a
este evento que cierra nuestro año escolar (este es el último día de clases
para los alumnos).
DISCOVERY ZONE 4 - Nuestro Campamento de Verano
está de regreso, comenzando el 10 de junio. Si usted está interesado en
inscribir a su(s) hijo(s), por favor recoja el formulario en la recepción u
obténgalo en nuestra página web (www.discoveryschool.edu.hn). Hay buenos descuentos disponibles!
CAMPAÑA DE MATRICULA – No olvide que la Campaña de Matricula para atraer
nuevos alumnos a la Escuela Discovery continua vigente, y termina el 31 de
agosto de 2013. Para información específica por favor revise los Memos de los
