LICE – We once again have
several cases of lice at school. Lice are common in all schools this time of year
and there is no reason for shame. Parental cooperation is crucial in
effectively eradicating this small epidemic. The school nurse will check
students for lice, and a student will be able to come back to school once there
are no more lice/nits on the student and has been cleared by our school nurse.
Please help us by sending your child back to school once you have gotten treated
the problem, and please understand that the measures we take are to ensure the well-being
of our students.
EARLY CHILDHOOD
AND ELEMENTARY READ-A-THON –This is week two of our annual
Read-a-Thon. Please encourage your students to read every day, and to turn in
their reading logs next Friday, March 18 before they leave for Semana Santa.
PRESENTATION
FOR PARENTS - We cordially invite all DS school
parents to attend a presentation that will be given by the Lic. Manuel Morales
on the topic “The Four Types of
Parents”. This presentation will take place on Thursday, March 10, at 12:00 p.m., in the Conference Room. The
school will be providing some refreshments. We hope you will be able to attend!
DR. KETTERER IN
AN ADVANCED TEAM – Dr. Ketterer will be out of the country
until Friday. He is part of a team visiting the John F. Kennedy School in
Queretaro, Qto. (Mexico) for reaccreditation.
III QUARTER REPORT CARDS AND CONFERENCES
- Report cards will be sent home with your child on Friday, March 18, if there
is no need for a conference. An email (Secondary) or a note (Early childhood
and Elementary) will be sent home if you need to come to school and meet with
your child’s teacher(s). Parent teacher conferences will be held that same Friday, March 18 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. We strongly advise you to come to school
and meet with your child's teachers.
T3 CONFERENCE – Thanks
to Ms. Dariela, Ms. Karen, Ms. Cara and Mr. Andrew for representing Discovery
School at the Teachers Teaching Teachers in San Pedro Sula last week.

SECONDARY NEWS:
DAILY ATTENDANCE
– We would like to remind parents that it is extremely important that your
child arrives to school on time EVERY
DAY. By getting to school on time, your child is able to organize his/her
locker and backpack, turn in all homework, and still have time to meet and
greet his friends. When your child is late to school, he come to class stressed
out, interrupts the class, and misses important information given by the
teacher at the beginning of the class. We strongly recommend your child arrives
to school by 7:45 a.m. There is a warning bell @ 7:55 and then classes begin
promptly @ 8:00 a.m.
BILINGUAL
SCHOOLS REGIONAL SCIENCE FAIR – The school
will be participating in the Regional Science Fair that will take place on Friday, March 11 at the Liberty School
of Tegucigalpa. In this event, Sofia Sherman from grade 8 will represent the
school with her project “Fast Track”. We wish her good luck!
ABSH MODEL
UNITED NATIONS – The school will be taking 16
students to participate in the ABSH Model United Nations this coming March 15 – 17 in the city of San Pedro
Sula. Students from both Middle and High School have been preparing to
represent the school in this interesting simulation of the United Nations. The
students have been coached by Ms. Cara Shelton and Mr. Andrew Duryea. The students are Sofia Sherman, Aisleen Turner, Anna
Cueva, Maria Alejandra Toncel, Laura Toncel, Elena Staples, Armando Blanco,
Liam Turner, Jose A. Zuniga, Juan D. Caballero, Gabriel Rodriguez, Eduardo
Gutierrez, Samuel Walsh, Narayan Baril, Fernando Herrera, and Fernando Ochoa. We
wish them all good luck!
ABSH MATH
OLYMPICS – Ms. Regina, Mr. Cesar, and Ms.
Ashley have been coaching the teams that will represent the school in the
National Math Olympics. The event will take place on Friday, April 8 at Anatares School of Tegucigalpa. We will be
participating in the following categories: Basic Math, Pre Algebra, Algebra 1,
Geometry, and Algebra 2.

We are pleased
to share with you the admission of Sara
Bueso to Hult University in
London and Loyola University in New
Orleans. Sara was also awarded a significant scholarship in Loyola for her
academic achievements. Way to go, Sara!
Fernando Herrera keeps
sharing with us his good news on his most recent admissions and academic
awards. Fernando was accepted to Iona
College and Hofstra University,
both located in New York. In recognition of his academic performance and
achievements he was awarded the Gael
Scholarship in Iona College and a Provost
Scholarship in Hofstra. Keep up the good work, Fernando!
We also wish to
congratulate Diego Aguilar for his
recent admission to New York Film Academy (NYFA)! We admire your artistic talent, Diego!
Scholastic News - Scholastic Book Club leaflets will be given out
this week. This is an optional activity offered by the school, because we know
you want to motivate your child to read at home. With your purchase, our
library will accumulate points to redeem more books for the benefit of your
children in our school. The due date to purchase the books online is March 28. The books will arrive to the
school in one single delivery, and we will distribute them to the students
according to their orders, approximately three weeks after the purchase due
date.
SENIORS BAKE SALE – The
Seniors will be having a Bake Sale this coming Friday, March 11. Goodies will be sold during snack and lunch. Do
not forget to bring money!
NUESTROS PEQUEÑOS HERMANOS BAKE SALE – NPH
(the school’s community service club) will be having a bake sale on Friday, April 1. Delicious baked goods
will be sold during snack and lunch. Do not forget to bring money.

REQUEST FROM MS. AMY – Ms. Amy just adopted a dog from the Asociacion de
Rescatistas Independientes, and the organization is in dire need of dog food (concentrado)
- a 25 pound bag lasts about a week. If anyone is interested in helping out
this worthy cause, please contact Ms. Amy (4B).

PIOJOS – Una vez
más estamos teniendo varios casos de piojos en la escuela. Los piojos son comunes en las escuelas en
esta temporada y no es algo que deba dar vergüenza. La cooperación de los
padres es crucial para erradicar esta pequeña epidemia. La enfermera estará
revisando a los alumnos, y los alumnos podrán regresar a clases una vez que ya
no tengan piojos/liendres y sea aprobado por la enfermera. Por favor ayúdenos
enviando a su hijo(a) a la escuela hasta que se haya solucionado el problema, y
favor comprender que las medidas que tomamos son para asegurar el bienestar de
nuestros alumnos.
MARATON DE LECTURA DE PRE-ESCOLAR Y PRIMARIA – Esta es la segunda semana del nuestro Maratón de
Lectura anual. Favor anime a su(s) hijo(s) a leer todos los días, y entreguen
los registros de lectura el próximo viernes 18 de marzo antes de salir para
Semana Santa.
DR. KETTERER COMO PARTE DE EQUIPO DE ADVANCED – Dr. Ketterer estará fuera del país hasta el día
viernes. El es parte del equipo que está visitando la Escuela John F. Kennedy
en Querétaro (México) para su re acreditación.
CALIFICACIONES Y CONFERENCIAS DEL 3ER TRIMESTRE – Las calificaciones se enviarán a casa con sus
hijos el viernes 18 de marzo, si no tenemos necesidad de una conferencia. Se
enviará un correo electrónico (para Secundaria) o una nota (para pre-escolar y
primaria) se enviará a casa si necesitamos que venga a reunirse con el/los
maestro(s) de su hijo. Las conferencias de padres y maestros se realizarán el
mismo viernes 18 de marzo de la 1:00
p.m. a 3:00 p.m. Les recomendamos que tome esta oportunidad para venir a la
escuela y reunirse con los maestros de sus hijos.

NOTICIAS DE SECUNDARIA:
ASISTENCIA DIARIA – Queremos recordarles a los padres que es
extremadamente importante que sus hijos lleguen a la escuela a tiempo TODOS LOS DÍAS. Al llegar a tiempo, le
da tiempo a su hijo(a) a organizar su casillero y mochila, entregar las tareas,
y todavía tener tiempo para saludar a sus amigos. Cuando su hijo(a) llega
tarde, llega a las clases estresado, interrumpe la clase, y se pierde de
información importante que los maestros dan al inicio de la clase. Firmemente
les recomendamos que sus hijos lleguen a la escuela antes de las 7:45 a.m.
Suena una campana de aviso a las 7:55 a.m. y las clases comienzan a las 8:00
a.m. en punto.
FERIA REGIONAL DE CIENCIAS DE
ESCUELAS BILINGUES – La escuela
estará participando en la Feria Regional de Ciencias que se llevará a cabo el viernes 11 de marzo en la Liberty
School de Tegucigalpa. En este evento, Sofia Sherman de 8vo grado representará
a la escuela con su proyecto “Fast Track”. Le deseamos la mejor de las suertes!
MODELO DE NACIONES UNIDAS ABSH – La escuela llevará 16 alumnos a participar en el
Modelo de Naciones Unidas ABSH este próximo 15 al 17 de marzo en la ciudad de San Pedro Sula. Los alumnos tanto
de escuela media como de secundaria se han estado preparando para representar
la escuela en esta simulación tan interesante de las Naciones Unidas. Los
alumnos han sido entrenados por Ms. Cara Shelton y Mr. Andrew Duryea. Los

Matemáticas. Este evento se realizará el 8
de abril en la Escuela Antares de Tegucigalpa. Estaremos participando en

VENTA DE PASTELES DE LOS SENIORS – Los Seniors estarán realizando una venta de
pasteles este próximo viernes 11 de marzo.
Los bocadillos se venderán durante el receso y almuerzo. No olviden
apoyarlos!
Noticias de Scholastic – Los formularios del Club del Libro de Scholastic se entregaron esta semana. Esta es una actividad opcional ofrecida por la escuela, ya que buscamos motivar a sus hijos a la lectura en casa. Con su compra, nuestra biblioteca acumulará puntos para redimir por más libros que beneficiarán a sus hijos en la escuela. La fecha límite para la compra de libros en línea es 28 de marzo. Los libros llegarán a la escuela en un solo paquete, y los distribuiremos a los alumnos según las ordenes, aproximadamente tres semanas después de la fecha límite de compra.
VENTA DE PASTELES DE NUESTROS PEQUEÑOS HERMANOS – NPH (el club de servicio comunitario de la escuela) tendrá una venta de repostería el viernes 1 de abril. Deliciosa repostería se venderá durante el receso y el almuerzo. No olvidemos apoyarles!
