DPTO MOVIE!!!
Our DPTO will be hosting its first activity for the 2016-2017 school year by presenting the movie “”Storks” IN ENGLISH!! This movie will be presented at Novacentro next Saturday, October 1 at 10:00 a.m. The price of the ticket is L250 which is includes the entrance to the movie AND a combo of your choice. Tickets are available with Ms. Ruth (our receptionist).

MUSICAL MINI CONCERTS
We continue with a series of concerts for our Early Childhood and Elementary students. Our second in a series of four educational concerts will take place this Wednesday, September 28 at 10:15 a.m. Teachers will accompany their students to the gym for an hour long presentation. Parents are more than welcome to join us!

We will have Optica Popular and Dra. Sandra Noguera doing visual and dental screening for our Early Childhood students. This service is free of cost. Permission slips allowing this screening to be done will be sent home next week.

A new initiative will be discussed by Elementary School teachers this week with the purpose of re-examining and adjusting the expectations of homework. Alternatives and new parameters will be discussed, and the new consensus will be shared soon with our school community.

SECONDARY NEWS
PUNCTUALITY – Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. promptly every day. Students are expected to arrive before 8:00 am every day. There is a warning bell at 7:55 a.m. and any student who is not in class by 8:00 a.m. is considered tardy. When students arrive early to school, they can organize their lockers and materials, they can turn in their homework, they can socialize, and they can also seek teachers for assistance. When they arrive late to school, they get stressed out, classes are interrupted, and they miss important information provided at the beginning of the class. We kindly request your assistance in this matter.
ENGRADEPRO FOR SECONDARY STUDENTS (grades 6 – 12):
Please contact Ms. Gloria via phone (9561-1434) or email ( gpalacios@discoveryschool.edu.hn) so she can share your child’s information to access the account. Students will receive the information either from their teachers or from her.
- After you get your username and password, login to www.engradepro.com
- You may change the password but you may not change the username
- We strongly recommend you check Engradepro periodically so you can monitor your child’s academic performance.
SECONDARY FIELD TRIPS (grades 6, 7, 8, and 11) –
Letters/permission slips regarding the field trips were sent home with the students on Monday, September 5. The deadline to send the permission slip back to school with your signature and the initial payment is Monday, October 31. If you need further information regarding the field trips, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Gloria.
PARENTS VOLUNTEERING FOR SECONDARY FIELD TRIPS – as a result of the Secondary Town Hall Meeting, two (2) parents per grade level will be selected to chaperone the field trips. All parents who wish to volunteer please contact Dr. Ketterer and/or Ms. Gloria. The final decision will be made by Dr. Ketterer.

PUNTUALIDAD -- Las clases comienzan a las 8:00 a.m. puntualmente cada día. Se espera que los estudiantes lleguen antes de las 8:00 am todos los días. Hay una campana previa que suena a las 7:55 a.m. y cualquier estudiante que no esté en la clase antes de las 8:00 am se considera tarde. Cuando los estudiantes llegan temprano a la escuela, pueden organizar sus casilleros y materiales, pueden entregar sus tareas, pueden socializar, y también pueden buscar a los maestros para recibir ayuda. Cuando llegan tarde a la escuela, ellos se estresan, interrumpen la clase, y se pierden información importante proporcionada al comienzo de la clase. Se solicita amablemente su ayuda en este asunto.
ENGRADEPRO – Favor contactar a Ms. Gloria vía teléfono (9561-1434) o por correo electrónico ( gpalacios@discoveryschool.edu.hn), para que ella pueda compartir la información de su hijo para tener acceso a la cuenta. Los estudiantes recibirán la siguiente información de los maestros y/o de mí.
- Después de obtener su nombre de usuario y la contraseña, iniciar sesión en www.engradepro.com
- Puede cambiar la contraseña, pero no podrá cambiar el nombre del usuario.
- Le recomendamos revisar periódicamente el Engradepro para que pueda supervisar el rendimiento académico de su hijo(a).
PASEOS DE SECUNDARIA
(grados 6, 7, 8 y 11) –
La carta/permiso para los paseos fueron enviados a casa con los estudiantes el lunes 5 de septiembre. La fecha límite para enviar la hoja de permiso a la escuela con su firma y el pago inicial es el lunes, 31 de octubre. Si necesita más información con respecto a los paseos, por favor no dude en ponerse en contacto con Ms. Gloria.
PADRES DE FAMILIA VOLUNTARIOS PARA LOS PASEOS DE SECUNDARIA - como resultado de la Reunión de Secundaria, se seleccionarán dos (2) padres de familia por cada grado como chaperones en los paseos. Todos los padres que deseen ser voluntarios favor contactarse con el Dr. Ketterer y/o Ms. Gloria. La decisión final será tomada por el Dr. Ketterer.

WOLVES SPORTS NEWS
Track & Field - We have been practicing for the ABSH Track & Field competition which will be held in Tegucigalpa. It has been organized by Academia Los Pinares (ALP). This event will take place on October 13 and 14, 2016.This event is only for Middle School and High School students/athletes.
Training for this event will continue 4 times a week (Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays). All practices will run from 3:15 PM to 4:15 PM. They are mandatory in order to be part of the team. Most practices will be held on or near the school grounds and occasionally (with previous notice) we will be practicing at the UNAH on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Basketball - We are getting ready for the ABSH Basketball tournament, which this year will be held at the American School of Tegucigalpa(AST), November 2 – 5, 2016.
We are currently involved with two categories (Infantil boys and Pre-juvenil boys) in the Regional ABSH Basketball Tournament, and our Infantil boys will be playing in the Finals. This final game will be held in the facilities of the AST on September 30 at 4:00 pm. Everybody is invited, our school athletes will appreciate your support.
Important: Support is always welcome from parents or relatives!

NOTICIAS DE LOS DEPORTES DE LOS LOBOS
Atletismo – Hemos estado practicando para la competencia del ABSH Atletismo que tendrá lugar en Tegucigalpa. Ha sido organizada por la Academia Los Pinares (ALP). Este evento se llevará a cabo el 13 y 14 de octubre, evento 2016. Este evento es sólo para los estudiantes de la escuela Media y de Secundaria.
Los entrenamientos para este evento continuarán 4 veces a la semana (lunes, martes, miércoles y jueves). Todas las prácticas se ejecutarán 3:15 P.M. a 4:15 P.M. Es obligatorio para poder ser parte del equipo. La mayoría de las prácticas se llevarán a cabo en o cerca de las instalaciones de la escuela y de vez en cuando (con previo aviso) estaremos practicando en la UNAH los lunes y los miércoles
Baloncesto - Nos estamos preparando para el torneo del ABSH de baloncesto, que este año se llevará a cabo en la Escuela Americana de Tegucigalpa (AST) del 2 al 5 de noviembre de 2016.
Actualmente estamos involucrados con dos categorías en niños (Infantil y Pre-Juvenil) en el Torneo Regional de Baloncesto ABSH, y nuestro grupo de Infantil niños jugaran en las finales. Este último partido se llevará a cabo en las instalaciones de la AST el 30 de septiembre a las 4:00 pm. Se invita a todos, nuestros atletas apreciarán su apoyo.
Importante: ¡El apoyo de los padres de familia y familiares siempre es bienvenido!

ACT Exam Information - Last week, information about the ACT exam was provided to the Junior and Senior students. Both the SAT and ACT are accepted and equally valued by all four-year universities in the United States. The packet provides detailed information on what the ACT consists of, dates, and the differences between it and the SAT. We encourage parents to discuss this information with their child to decide what the best testing option for them is.
Presentation for Parents - We cordially invite all DS school parents to attend a presentation that will be given by the Lic. Manuel Morales on the topic “Family: School of Duties and Rights”. This presentation will take place on Wednesday, September 28, at 12:00 p.m., in the Conference Room. The school will be providing some refreshments. We hope you will be able to attend!

Información del Examen de ACT--La semana pasada, se proporcionó información sobre el examen ACT a los estudiantes de Junior y a los Seniors. Tanto el SAT y ACT son aceptados y valorados por igual por todas las universidades de cuatro años en los Estados Unidos. El paquete proporciona información detallada sobre lo que el ACT consiste, fechas, y las diferencias entre éste y el SAT. Animamos a los padres para discutir esta información con su hijo (a) para decidir cuál es la mejor opción de prueba para ellos.
