UN DAY CELEBRATION IS THIS FRIDAY October 22 - The international flavor, and this celebration in particular, is one of the trademarks of the school! The DPTO is working very hard to organize our annual United Nations Day Celebration. There are still a few countries that are not represented. Please contact the DPTO officers if you want to contribute to this wonderful school celebration of culture diversity.
STUDENT LED CONFERENCES FRIDAY OCTOBER 29 – Conferences to hand out Report Cards for the first quarter will be held on Friday, October 29, for all parents. Elementary teachers will be contacting parents this week with appointment times. Please plan to come with your child to the conference. Middle and High School teachers will talk to parents on a first-come first-serve basis. If you have any questions or if you need to set an alternative date and time, please talk to your child’s teacher or to the Area Administrators (Cristiana and Gloria).
ENROLLMENT DRIVE - The Board has developed an incentive initiative to raise our school’s enrolment and provide for continuing financial viability and growth of the school. If you were not able to attend the General Assembly on Thursday, there will be two informational meetings on Wednesday October 20 (from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. and again from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.) in the High School Library to inform parents and teachers. This initiative offers cash incentives for our existing Discovery parents and teachers who bring new students in to the school during a limited time period. Please come and hear all about it!
TRACK AND FIELD COMPETITIONS: The P.E. Department has arranged for our students to participate in an upcoming Track and Field Competition at Via Olimpica. The Secondary students will compete on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 19 and 20, from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m., and the Elementary students will compete on Thursday and Friday, October 21 and 22, from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. The school bus will take students who are competing to Via Olimpica, with help from parents. Parents need to pick their children up promptly following the event. Please let Mr. Victor know if you can help with transportation to the events.
PICTURES FOR THE YEARBOOK – if you have cool pictures of your class and would like them to be included in this year’s yearbook please email them to Mrs. Kristen Fink at kfink@discoveryschool.edu.hn .
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY WORKSHOP –The private follow up workshop for our teachers is today on Monday, October 18, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.
DISCOVERY SCHOOL WORKSHOP – The annual Discovery School workshop is next month. If you own a business, and can donate prizes or goodies for this event, we ask for your generosity. Ms Carolina, our receptionist, will be contacting you soon.
SECURITY WALL UPDATE: We are finally off the generator and students and teachers are enjoying the relative quiet! The progress continues on the security wall and gates.

Blogs and Wikispaces—These are updated before 8:00 a.m. every Monday morning with the current week’s information. If you haven’t checked them out yet, please do so. This is your children’s teachers methods of communicating with you.
Parking Lot and Traffic Control– Please help our staff members by parking only in the designated areas and not in the front of the school where we dismiss students.
We need to keep the front of the school open for the safety of the students—and parallel parking is not permitted there.
Please follow the directions of our staff and security guards.

El sabor internacional, y esta celebración en particular, es una de las celebraciones especiales de la escuela. El DPTO esta trabajando duro para organizar nuestra celebración anual de las Naciones Unidas. Todavía hay algunos países que no están siendo representados. Por favor contacte a los encargados del DPTO si desea contribuir con esta maravillosa celebración de diversidad cultural.
CONFERENCIAS DE ALUMNOS, VIERNES 29 DE OCTUBRE – Las conferencias para entrega de calificaciones del primer parcial serán el día viernes 29 de Octubre, para todos los padres de familia. Los maestros de primaria estarán contactando a los padres de familia esta semana con horarios para las conferencias. Por favor planifique venir con su hijo(a) a la conferencia. Los maestros de Secundaria atenderán a los padres de familia por orden de llegada. Si tiene alguna pregunta o si necesita programar otra fecha y hora, por favor hable con los maestros de su hijo(a) o con las administradoras de área (Cristiana y Gloria).
CAMPAÑA DE MATRICULA – La Junta a desarrollado un plan de incentivos para incrementar la matricula en la escuela y obtener fondos para nuestra estabilidad financiera y crecimiento de la escuela. Si no pudo asistir a la Asamblea General el jueves, tendremos nos reuniones informativas el miércoles 20 de Octubre (de 8:00 a 9:00 a.m. y de nuevo de 2:00 a 3:00 p.m.) en la Biblioteca de Secundaria para informar a los padres de familia y maestros. Esta iniciativa ofrece incentivos económicos para los actuales padres de familia de Discovery y para maestros que traigan nuevos alumnos a la escuela durante un periodo tiempo. Por favor venga y entérese de que se trata.
COMPETENCIAS DE ATLETISMO: El departamento de Educación Física a coordinado la participación de nuestros alumnos en una competencia de Atletismo en la Villa Olímpica. Los alumnos de secundaria competirán el martes 19 y el miércoles 20 de Octubre, de 1:00 – 5:00 p.m., y los de primaria competirán el Jueves 21 y el viernes 22 de Octubre, de 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. El bus de la escuela llevará a la Villa Olímpica a los alumnos que compiten, con ayuda de los padres. Los padres de familia deberán recoger a sus hijos inmediatamente una vez terminado el evento. Por favor haga saber a Mr. Victor si usted puede colaborar brindando transporte a los eventos.

AVANCE DEL MURO DE SEGURIDAD: Al fin dejamos de usar el generador y los alumnos y maestros están disfrutando de la relativa calma. Continúa el avance en el muro de seguridad y en los portones.

Necesitamos mantener el frente de la escuela libre por la seguridad de los alumnos y estacionar en paralelo no esta permitido en esta área.
