MODEL U.N. IN LA CEIBA – Mrs. Kristen Fink traveled with a group of our High School Students to La Ceiba last week to represent the school and participate in the Model UN event in Mazapan. Congratulations to all our participants: Maria Teressa Agurcia, Teo Vander Hayden (who received Honorable Mention Awards) Santiago Agurcia (4th Place), Saskia Hernandez (who received the Best Alliance Award), Santiago Agurcia and Salvador Quezada (who received Encyclopedia Awards), Maria Stefania Garcia (who won the Best Dressed Female Delegate distinction) and Stephanie Tyson. They all made us very proud in such a great representation of our school.
GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND ARTS EXHIBITION– Please remember that our General Assembly is this Thursday May 5th. IMPORTANT ITEMS SUCH AS NEXT YEAR’S BUDGET AND SCHOOL CALENDAR NEED TO BE VOTED ON AND PASSED, AND FOR THIS WE NEED TO HAVE A QUORUM. Your attendance is needed for this Assembly. The Arts Exhibit will open at 4:30 p.m. and the General Assembly will start at 6:00 p.m. which is also the start of the planned activities for any students who are on campus. There will be no homework on Thursday night to be turned in on Friday, and no tests will be given on Friday, May 6.
Activities that we will provide for the students while their parents are at the General Assembly are as follows. The school is providing pizza and drinks as a snack for the students.

TEACHER APPRECIATION LUNCH – This week is Teacher Appreciation week, and we thank all the parents and the DPTO who will be contributing to the staff appreciation lunch on Thursday May 5. The lunch will be in the gym.
EARLY DISMISSAL FRIDAY MAY 6 - Because Thursday will be a long day for our students, we have decided to make Friday, May 6, a half day for students. Students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m., and teachers will be able to use the afternoon to work on Curriculum Maps, finalizing curriculum revision, etc. We do apologize for the late notice on this change to the schedule, but we feel it is in the students’ best interest.
CONGRATULATIONS RICARDO ESPINOZA- Ricky participated in a swimming competition last weekend and obtained a Gold Medal in the 50 meter breaststroke competition (against 32 other competitors). Ricky will be representing Honduras in El Salvador next month!
ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) EXAMS – AP exams start this week. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Gloria.
MAP TESTING begins on Monday, May 9. This is the third and final testing for the year.
PROGRESS REPORTS – Mid-Term of the Fourth Quarter is Wednesday, May 4. Progress Reports go home on Wednesday, May 11.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES STARTED LAST TUESDAY, APRIL 5. If your child’s activity had adequate interest to continue, the fee is due for that activity. If you have any questions, please contact the PE teachers (Ms. Carol and Mr. Victor).
BOOK DRIVE! -Please consider supporting the Library by donating any books that you and your children no longer want to have at home. All types of books are welcome - appropriate ones will be added to the library's collection, and the rest will be sold at the DPTO’s Garage Sale on May 14th. The proceeds from the sale will go toward the purchase of more books! Please bring your extra books in good condition to the school library by Monday, May 9th. Thank you!
GARAGE SALE – The DPTO is putting together the annual Garage Sale for Saturday May 13th. The price of each table is L250. This is a great opportunity to buy and sell “treasures”! If you are interested please contact Martha Bandes at mbandes@yahoo.com or call her at 9945-6338 .
TASTE OF DISCOVERY SALES DRIVE - From now until May 10, parents and teachers may take 5 cookbooks out at a time to sell to friends, co-workers, or family. A complete announcement was sent via email—let Carolina know if you want to collect cookbooks to sell. Go team!!
DISCOVERY ZONE SUMMER CAMP – Please help promote our Summer Camp. It begins on June 13th. Flyers will be sent home this week, and more information about registration will be available before the General Assembly. Please take this opportunity to showcase and share the Discovery experience. Several students joined Discovery following last year’s Camp, and this is a great way to let the community get a feel for who we are.

MODELO DE NACIONES UNIDAS EN LA CEIBA - Mrs. Kristen viajó con un grupo de alumnos de secundaria la semana pasada a La Ceiba, representado a la escuela y participando en el evento Modelo de Naciones Unidas en Mazapán. Felicitaciones a todos nuestros participantes: María Teresa Agurcia, Teo Vander Hayden (quienes recibieron Mención Honorífica) Santiago Agurcia (cuarto lugar), Saskia Hernández (quien recibió el Premio a la Mejor Alianza), Santiago Agurcia y Salvador Quezada (que recibieron premios Enciclopedia), María Stefania Garcia (que ganó la distinción Delegado Mujer mejor vestida) y Stephanie Tyson. Todos ellos nos hicieron sentir muy orgullosos por la gran representación de nuestra escuela.
ASAMBLEA GENERAL Y EXHIBICION DE ARTE - Por favor, recuerde que nuestra Asamblea General es este jueves 5 de mayo. PUNTOS IMPORTANTES COMO PRESUPUESTO DEL PRÓXIMO AÑO Y EL CALENDARIO DE LA ESCUELA NECESITAN PARA SER VOTADO Y APROBADO, Y PARA ELLO NECESITAMOS CONTAR CON EL QUÓRUM. Su asistencia es necesaria para esta Asamblea. La exposición de arte se abrirá a las 4:30 pm y la Asamblea General iniciará a las 6:00 pm, que es también el comienzo de las actividades previstas para los alumnos que están en el campus. No habrá tareas en la noche del jueves para ser entregado el viernes, y no hay exámenes el viernes, 6 de mayo.
Actividades que se ofrecerán para los alumnos mientras sus padres están en la Asamblea General son las siguientes. La escuela está ofreciendo pizza y las bebidas como un aperitivo para los alumnos.

ALMUERZO DE APRECIACION DE MAESTRO - Esta semana es la Semana de apreciación del Maestro, y agradecemos a todos los padres y al DPTO que contribuirán al almuerzo de apreciación al personal el jueves 5 de mayo. El almuerzo será en el gimnasio.
SALIDA TEMPRANA EL VIERNES 6 DE MAYO - Debido a que el jueves será un día largo para nuestros alumnos, hemos decidido hacer el viernes 6 de mayo, un medio día para los alumnos. Los alumnos saldrán a las 11:45 am, y los maestros podrán utilizar la tarde para trabajar en Mapas Curriculares, la finalización de la revisión curricular, etc. Nos disculpamos por el anuncio a última hora de este cambio en el horario, pero creemos que es bienestar de los mismos alumnos.
FELICIDADES RICARDO ESPINOZA - Ricky participó en una competencia de natación fin de semana pasado y obtuvo una medalla de oro en la competencia de 50 metros mariposa (frente a 32 competidores). Ricky estará representando a Honduras en El Salvador el próximo mes!

MEDIDAS DEL PROGRESO ACADEMICO (MAP) Comenzarán el lunes 9 de mayo. Este es el tercer y ultimo examen de este año.
REPORTES DE PROGRESO – La mitad de período del cuarto trimestre es el miércoles 4 de mayo. Los reportes de progreso del cuarto periodo se enviarán el miércoles 11 de mayo.
LAS ACTIVIDADES EXTRACURRICULARES COMENZARON EL PASADO MARTES 5 DE ABRIL. Si la actividad de su hijo tiene la cantidad de participantes para continuar, esta pendiente el pago de la tarifa de esa actividad. Si tiene alguna preguntar favor comuníquese con los maestros de Educación Física (Ms. Carol y Mr. Víctor).
RECOLECCIÓN DE LIBROS! -Por favor, considere el apoyo a la Biblioteca con la donación de libros que usted y sus hijos ya no quieren tener en casa. Todos los tipos de libros son bienvenidos - los apropiados se agregarán a la colección de la biblioteca, y el resto será vendido en la venta de garaje en el DPTO 14 de mayo. El producto de la venta se destinará a la compra de más libros! Favor de traer sus libros adicionales en buen estado a la biblioteca de la escuela el lunes 9 de mayo. ¡Gracias!

VENTAS POR UNIDAD DEL SABOR DE DISCOVERY – Desde este momento hasta el 10 de mayo, padres y maestros pueden llevarse 5 libros de cocina al mismo tiempo para vendérselos a sus amigos, compañeros o familia. Favor tome esta oportunidad para compartir un poco de quienes somos y para ayudar al DPTO al mismo tiempo!
DESCOVERY ZONE, CAMPAMENTO DE VERANO - Por favor, ayude a promover nuestro campamento de verano. Comienza el 13 de junio. Hojas volantes serán enviadas a casa esta semana, y más información sobre el registro estará disponible antes de la Asamblea General. Por favor tome esta oportunidad para mostrar y compartir la experiencia Discovery. Varios estudiantes se unieron a Discovery tras el campamento del año pasado, y esta es una gran manera para que la comunidad tenga una idea de lo que somos.
