OPERA AND MUSEUM FIELDTRIP – Thanks to all the teachers and students who made our Middle and High School fieldtrips last Friday such a success. It was nice to see everyone dressed up for these events, and we are all proud of the way the students represented Discovery School.
STUDENT RECOGNITION - We are proud to share with you that Daniela Davila recently represented the school alongside the Honduran Swim Team, and participated in the Codicader. This is a Central American competition that took place in San Salvador. Daniela won 2 medals--a silver medal in 50 meter freestyle and a bronze medal in the freestyle relay. Well done Daniela—We are proud of you!!
GENERAL ASSEMBLY - The summons has been sent for the first General Assembly of this school year. It will be held on Thursday, October 13, at 6:00 p.m. We hope to see you all on this evening.
VEHICLE STICKERS AND SECURITY: Thank you for helping with our security procedures by picking up your complimentary vehicle sticker and purchasing additional ones as needed. If you have not already picked up your free sticker from Carolina, please do so today. If you don't have a new sticker, you will be asked to park outside. Please help our guards do their jobs by following the established procedure. We know that this will take a little longer at 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and we rely on your continued patience and cooperation with the guards and school personnel to help us keep your children and the school as safe as possible.
BUS SERVICE - As you are probably aware, traffic has become more of an issue on our morning and afternoon bus routes. The universities are now in session, and that causes increased congestion, especially in the mornings. We will continue to do our very best to get your children to school on time and delivered back to you as quickly as possible. Please remember that if your child will not be riding the bus and you know that in advance, you should notify the bus driver to ensure that the bus does not come to your house. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
PSAT EXAM - The following students will be taking the PSAT exams this Wednesday October 12th in Mrs. Agurcia’s room : Tiffany Molina, Catalina Rodriguez, Daniela Davila, Emilia Matamoros, Ana Paulina Leal, Andrea Lara, Elisa Castillo, Joaquin Orellana, Francisco Battiti, Jorge Atuan and Sachi Kameishi (at another school campus). The students who are not taking the PSAT will have a regular school day schedule.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITY PICK UP – We want to remind parents that afterschool activities and Choir practices end at 4:00 p.m. We understand that traffic is heavy at this time of the day in the city, but we ask that parents be prompt in picking their children. Our staff has been instructed not to leave until the last student had been picked up, but teachers have been staying very late waiting for parents to pick up their children. We ask for your support in this matter.
SCHOOL MASCOT – This Friday our student body will be voting on the image of our new school mascot THE WOLF. The voting will take place in the school cafeteria area.
REPORT CARDS – Please mark your calendars for Friday, October 21. There will be no classes on this day as this is the day designated for Student Led Conferences. Reports Cards and MAP reports will be distributed during the conferences, which are mandatory for all of our students and their parents. If you cannot meet with your child’s teacher on this day, please let us know and we will reschedule for the following week.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WEDNESDAYS – Following SACS reccomendations, we will devote the last Wednesday of each month to Professional development of our teachers. Students will be dismissed at 11:45 am on the last Wednesday of each month, starting on Wednesday, October 26, and our teachers will participate in professional growth opportunities that respond to our curricular needs. A schedule of dates will be posted in the Administration School blog.
UN DAY CELEBRATION – The DPTO has been meeting regularly to plan upcoming events, especially the UN Day taking place on Friday, October 28. This is an event that celebrates the true international flavor of our school community. PASEO A LA OPERA Y AL MUSEO – Gracias a todos los maestros y alumnos quienes lograron que nuestro paseos con secundaria, el viernes pasado, fuese todo un éxito. Fue agradable verlos a todos vestidos muy formales para los eventos, y nos sentimos muy orgullosos de la manera que nuestros alumnos representaron a la Escuela Discovery.
RECONOCIMIENTO A UNA ALUMNA – Nos enorgullece compartir con todos que Daniela Dávila recientemente represento a la escuela con el equipo Hondureño de Natación, y participo en el Codicader. Esta es una competencia que se llevo a cabo en San Salvador. Daniela ganó 2 medallas – medalla de plata en 50 metros estilo libre y medalla de bronce en relevo estilo libre. Bien hecho Daniela- nos sentimos orgullosos de ti!!
ASAMBLEA GENERAL – La convocatoria ha sido enviada para la primera Asamblea General de este año escolar. Tendrá lugar este jueves 13 de octubre, a las 6:00 p.m. Esperamos verlos a todos en ese dia.
CALCOMANIAS VEHICULARES Y SEGURIDAD: Gracias por su ayuda con nuestros procedimientos de seguridad al recoger su calcomanía gratuita y al comprar adicionales en casos necesarios. Si todavía no ha recogido su calcomanía gratuita de donde Carolina, por favor hágalo hoy. Si no tiene una calcomanía nueva, se le pedirá que se estacione afuera. Favor ayudemos a nuestros guardias hacer su trabajo al seguir los procedimientos establecidos. Sabemos que esto tomará más tiempo a las 8:00 a.m. y 3:00 p.m., pero contamos con su continua paciencia y cooperación con los guardias y el personal de la escuela para ayudarnos a mantener a nuestros alumnos y escuela tan segura como sea posible.
SERVICIO DE BUS – Como seguramente ha notado, el tráfico se ha vuelto una situación que afecta en los recorridos de los buses tanto en la mañana como en la tarde. Las universidades están en clases, lo que ocasiona aumento en el congestionamiento especialmente de las mañanas. Continuaremos en hacer nuestro mejor esfuerzo para lograr que sus hijos lleguen a la escuela a tiempo y llevarlos de regreso a casa tan pronto como sea posible. Por favor recuerde que si su hijo no usará un día el bus (y usted lo sabe con anticipación), debe notificar al conductor del bus para que no llegue a su casa. Le agradecemos por su paciencia y comprensión.
EXÁMENES PSAT – Los siguientes alumnos estarán tomando los exámenes PSAT este miércoles 12 de octubre en el aula de Mrs. Agurcia: Tiffany Molina, Catalina Rodriguez, Daniela Davila, Emilia Matamoros, Ana Paulina Leal, Andrea Lara, Elisa Castillo, Joaquin Orellana, Francisco Battiti, Jorge Atuan y Sachi Kameishi (en las instalaciones de otra escuela). Los alumnos que no tomen el PSAT tendrán un día regular de clases.
ACTIVIDADES EXTRACURRICULARES – Queremos recordar a los padres que las actividades extracurriculares y practica del coro terminan a las 4:00 p.m. Entendemos que el trafico está pesado en estos días en la ciudad, pero les pedimos a los padres que sean puntuales en recoger a sus hijos. Nuestro personal tiene instrucciones de no irse hasta que el ultimo alumno sea recogido, pero los maestros se han estado quedando hasta tarde esperando a que algunos padres vengan a recoger a sus hijos. Les pedimos su apoyo en este asunto.
MASCOTA DE LA ESCUELA – Este viernes nuestro cuerpo estudiantil estará votando por la imagen de nuestra nueva mascota EL LOBO. La votación tomara lugar en el área de la cafetería de la escuela.
CALIFICACIONES – Favor marque en su calendario el viernes 21 de octubre. No habrá clases en este día ya que es el día asignado para las Conferencias guiadas por los alumnos. Las calificaciones y reportes de MAP serán entregados durante las conferencias, las que son obligatorias para todos nuestros alumnos y sus padres. Si no puede reunirse con el maestro de su hijo en ese día, por favor notifíquenos y lo reprogramaremos para la siguiente semana.
DESARROLLO PROFESIONAL LOS MIÉRCOLES - Siguiendo con las recomendaciones de SACS, dedicaremos el último miércoles de cada mes al desarrollo profesional de nuestros maestros. Los alumnos serán despachados a las 11:45 a.m. el último miércoles de cada mes, comenzando el miércoles 26 de octubre, nuestros maestros participarán en diferentes oportunidades de crecimiento profesional que sea conforme a nuestras necesidades curriculares. Un horario de fechas será publicado en el blog de la Administración de la Escuela.
CELEBRACION DEL DÍA DE LAS NACIONES UNIDAS – El DPTO se ha estado reuniendo regularmente a planificar los próximos eventos, especialmente la celebración del Día de las Naciones Unidas que se llevará a cabo el viernes 28 de octubre. Este es un evento que celebra el verdadero sabor internacional de la comunidad en nuestra escuela.
