ANOTHER DPTO SUCCESS – On Saturday the DPTO hosted their annual Garage Sale at the school, and as always it was a great hit. Thanks to all our community members for supporting the efforts of our DPTO, which not only raise funds for the school but also provide many opportunities for the community to come together.
REMINDER TO PARENTS – This is the last week of school. There will be early dismissals (11:40 a.m.) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Please check the Dates to Remember and calendar below for the special events happening each day.
HONORS BREAKFAST – Parents and Teachers of students in Grades 6-12 who were on the Honor Roll during the first three quarters of this school year were invited to attend the Honors Breakfast to recognize these students on Monday, June 4, at 7:00 a.m.
CHOIR FUNDRAISING END-OF-THE-YEAR CARNIVAL: The Choir Parents are organizing an end-of-the-year Carnival and Bingo for Saturday, June 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be games, food, and of course the exciting Bingo. Please come bid the school year good bye with our family and friends while supporting the Choir in their last effort to raise fund for their upcoming San Fancisco trip in July.
UNCLAIMED ART SALE - Yes! It is time for the annual Unclaimed Art Sale! Parents, if your students have not brought their portfolios home from the art room you may find them up for sale in the art room. All unclaimed art work will be on sale June 4,5,6,7 from 7:30 am to 3:30.
All pieces are reasonable priced (10-20-50 Lempira) and families will get a huge discount (free!). All proceeds from the sale of student work will be used to help pay for the framing of students’ works for the permanent collection.

This will give us valuable information as we plan for the 2012-2013 school year. The cafeteria staff wishes everyone a healthy, happy and safe summer, and we’ll see you in August.
2011-2012 YEARBOOK IS COMING!– The ‘Year of the Wolves’ – The Discovery School yearbook is being printed and will be ready for distribution next Friday, according to the publisher. We are currently offering pre-sales to guarantee that you get a copy. Although the book is larger than last year, we have been able to arrange for no increase in the cost over last year. Therefore, our school memories are reflected in an 80-page, hard cover yearbook for the price of L. 650 each. You can reserve your copy by seeing Belgica in the Finance Office and paying the L. 650. We know these will sell out quickly, so be sure and reserve yours now! The school offices will be open throughout the summer so you will still have a chance to buy a yearbook as long as they last.
MOZART’S ‘COSI FAN TUTTE OPERA COMES TO TEGUCIGALPA! – For the first time in Honduras, the National Philharmonic Association, with the support of Maestro Jorge Mejia, has arranged for a professional opera company from Texas to come to Tegucigalpa and perform Mozart’s famous opera, ‘Cosi Fan Tutte’. Premiere will be held on Thursday, June 7, at 7:00 p.m., with a repeat performance on Friday, June 8, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the Discovery School Finance Office.
As a part of our continuing promotion of Art Education, we are actively pursuing the development of a relationship with Maestro Mejia and the Philharmonic Association that will benefit our students and promote an appreciation of the arts. We have discussed the possibility in the future of our choir singing with the Philharmonic Orchestra, having performances of small groups of the orchestra at the school, and securing the orchestra members’ participation and help in forming a string ensemble of students.
Please help us do our part by promoting the opera next week and helping us sell the tickets. This is a rare opportunity to see a professionally produced and performed presentation of this well-known Mozart opera. We intend to sell at least 20 tickets—we hope you will join us!
ENROLLMENT DRIVE -- Many of our parents and staff members have already contributed to the school’s enrollment drive through promoting us with their friends and families. The best PR you can give the school is by recommending us and bringing new families into the school. If you need more information about the drive, please see Paola for a copy of the guidelines.

OTRO EXITO DEL DPTO – Este sábado el DPTO organizó su Venta de Garaje anual en la escuela, y como siempre fue un gran éxito. Agradecemos a todos los miembros de nuestra comunidad por apoyar los esfuerzos del DPTO, que no solo recaudan fondos para la escuela sino que proveen muchas oportunidades para que la comunidad se reúna.

DESAYUNO DE HONOR - Los padres y maestros de los alumnos de 6 a 12 grados que han estado en el cuadro de honor durante los primeros 3 trimestres del año escolar fueron invitados a asistir al Desayuno de Honor, para hacerles un reconocimiento especial, este lunes 4 de junio a las 7:00 a.m.
CARNAVAL DE FIN DE AÑO PARA RECAUDAR FONDOS PARA EL CORO: Los padres del Coro están organizando un Carnaval de Fin de Año y Bingo para el sábado 9 de junio, desde las 11:00 a.m. a 4:00 p.m. en la escuela. Habrán juegos, comida y por supuesto el emocionante Bingo. Por favor venga y celebre el fin de año con nuestra familia y amigos mientras apoyamos al Coro en su último esfuerzo por recaudar fondos para su próximo viaje a San Francisco en julio.
VENTA DE ARTE SIN RECLAMAR - Si! El momento de nuestra venta anual de Arte sin Reclamar ha llegado! Padres de familia, si sus hijos no han llevado su portafolio de la clase de Arte a casa encontrarán sus trabajos a la venta en el aula de Arte. Todo el arte que no se reclame estará a la venta el 4, 5, 6, 7 de junio de 7:30 am a 3:30 pm.
Todas las piezas tendrán un precio razonable (10-20-50 Lempiras) y los familiares obtendrán un gran descuento (gratis!). Todas las ganancias de la venta de los trabajos de los alumnos será usado para ayudar a pagar por el enmarcado de los trabajos de los alumnos que quedan en la colección permanente de la escuela.

EL ANUARIO 2011-2012 ESTA EN CAMINO! – El “Año de los Lobos” – El anuario de la Escuela Discovery está siendo impreso y estará listo para la distribución el próximo viernes de acuerdo con la imprenta. Actualmente estamos ofreciendo pre-venta para garantizarles que obtengan una copia. Aunque el libro es más grande que el del año pasado, lo hemos acomodado para que no aumente el precio. Por lo tanto, los recuerdos de nuestra escuela están reflejados en un anuario de 80 páginas, con pasta dura, a un precio de L.650 cada uno. Puede reservarlo con Bélgica en la oficina de contabilidad pagando los L.650. Sabemos que se venderá rápido, así que asegúrese de reservar el suyo hoy! Las oficinas de la escuela estarán abiertas durante el verano así que tendrá oportunidad de obtener el anuario mientras hayan existencias.
LA OPERA DE MOZART´S ´COSI FAN TUTTE VIENE A TEGUCIGALPA – Por primera vez en Honduras, la Asociación Nacional Filarmónica, con el apoyo del Maestro Jorge Mejía, ha organizado que una compañía profesional de opera desde Texas venga a Tegucigalpa y nos presente la famosa ópera de Mozart Cozi Fan Tutte. La premiere se llevará a cabo el jueves 7 de junio, a las 7:00 p.m., con otra presentación el viernes 8 de junio, a las 7:00 p.m. Los boletos estarán a la venta en la Oficina de Contabilidad de la Escuela Discovery.
Como parte de nuestro continuo interés en promover la Educación en las Artes, estamos activamente estableciendo una relación con el Maestro Jorge Mejía y la Asociación Filarmónica de Honduras que beneficiará a nuestros alumnos y promoverá una mejor apreciación por las artes. Hemos hablado de la posibilidad que en el futuro nuestro coro cante con la Orquesta Filarmónica, teniendo presentaciones con grupos pequeños de la orquestra en la escuela, y asegurando la participación de los miembros de la orquestra y ayudando a que formen un conjunto con los alumnos.
Por favor ayúdenos a hacer nuestra parte promoviendo la opera la próxima semana y vendiendo boletos. Esta es una oportunidad especial para ver una presentación profesionalmente producida de esta muy conocida ópera de Mozart. Tenemos la intención de vender por lo menos 20 boletos – esperamos nos acompañen!
