WHAT A WONDERFUL U.N. DAY CELEBRATION LAST THURSDAY! Congratulations to the DPTO for putting together a magnificent event to showcase all the nationalities we have at school. Thanks to all the parents who contributed their time and effort in making this a success!
STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES – Report Cards and MAP reports were issued to parents last Friday. If you did not come in for a conference, please contact your child’s teacher to set up a time to come in. Please remember that in order to receive these documents, conferences are obligatory for the first quarter.
DISCOVERY SCHOOL PARTICIPATON IN ASSOCIATION OF BILINGUAL SCHOOLS IN HONDURAS (ABSH) EVENTS
- Last Friday, the Discovery School TRACK AND FIELD TEAM participated in the ABSH event held in Villa Olimpica, in which 10 bilingual schools were represented.
CONGRATULATIONS to all of our athletes, and a special thanks to Mr. Victor and Mrs. Carol Rodriguez for training our students, and to Ms. Pia Girbal and Ms. Ivonne Casco for helping supervise the students at the event. We also want to thank OSM, our medical provider, who attended with the ambulance to make sure our students were well cared for.
Our students made us proud in their constant display of teamwork, encouragement and support for their teammates, and positive attitude toward all competitors. Below are the results of the events:

As one student stated during the Track Meet, Discovery students don’t quit. Each student put forth his/her very best efforts, congratulated athletes from other schools, and took pride in the accomplishments of their teammates. It was a great day for Discovery School!!
COSTUME DAY BAKE SALE – Our Senior students will have a Bake Sale this Tuesday, October 30, during snack and lunch recess.
ELEMENTARY PARENTS’ INFORMATION:
- MAP INFORMATION FOR ELEMENTARY PARENTS – Elementary teachers have posted an information page about MAP on their blogs. Please read this document with valuable information on how to help your child improve in the areas that the MAP assessment has indicated.
- SCIENCE FAIR 2013 (for grades 3-6) – The Science Fair packets for this year’s Elementary Science Fair were distributed last Friday at conferences. Special thanks to Ms. Carol and Ms. Maricarmen for putting these together. The first deadline for the booklet is November 5.
FACULTY MEETING NOVEMBER 1 – DIFFERENTIATION OF ASSESSMENT -- The MAP Leadership Team (Jordan, Kimmie, Kjell, and Regina), has suggested ways in which we can utilize our Faculty Meetings each month for collegial working time. So, the Faculty Meeting on November 1 will be used for reviewing differentiation of assessment based on the needs of the students. Teachers will each bring an actual assessment that they have used or plan to use this year to the meeting, where they will discuss assessment options with their colleagues in small groups.
AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES – Information will be provided this week on the upcoming After-School Activities for the second quarter.

CONFERENCIAS DIRIGIDAS POR LOS ALUMNOS – Las calificaciones y los reportes de MAP se entregaron a los padres el viernes pasado. Si usted no pudo venir a una conferencia, por favor comuníquese con el maestro de su hijo(a) para poder re calendarizar la conferencia. Por favor recuerde que para poderles entregar estos documentos, las conferencias son obligatorias para el primer parcial.
PARTICIPACION DE LA ESCUELA DISCOVERY EN LOS EVENTOS DE LA ASOCIACION DE ESCUELAS BILINGUES DE HONDURAS (ABSH)
- El viernes pasado, el EQUIPO DE ATLETISMO de la Escuela Discovery participó en el evento que se realizó en la Villa Olímpica, en el cual estuvieron presentes 10 escuelas bilingües.
FELICIDADES a todos nuestros atletas, y un especial agradecimiento a Mr. Víctor y Mrs. Carol Rodríguez por entrenar a nuestros alumnos, y a Ms. Pía Girbal y Ms. Ivonne Casco por ayudar a supervisar durante el evento. También agradecemos a OSM, nuestro proveedor de servicios médicos, quienes asistieron con la ambulancia para asegurarse que tuviéramos los cuidados necesarios para nuestros alumnos.
Nos sentimos orgullosos de nuestros alumnos por su constante demostración de trabajo en equipo, coraje y apoyo a sus compañeros, y actitud positiva hacia todos los competidores. A continuación detallamos los resultados de los eventos:

VENTA DE REPOSTERIA EN DÍA DE DISFRACES - Nuestros Seniors tendrán una venta de pasteles este martes 30 de octubre, durante el receso y el almuerzo.

- INFORMACION DE MAP PARA LOS PADRES DE PRIMARIA – Los maestros de primaria han publicado una página de información acerca del MAP, en sus blogs. Favor lea este documento que contiene información valiosa de cómo ayudar a su hijo(a) en las áreas que la evaluación MAP ha indicado.
- FERIA DE CIENCIAS 2013 (para grados 3 a 6) – Los paquetes de la Feria de Ciencias de primaria de este año se entregaron el viernes pasado durante las conferencias. Un agradecimiento especial a Ms. Carol y Ms. Maricarmen por organizarlos. La primera fecha límite para la libreta es el 5 de noviembre.
REUNION DE MAESTROS EL 1 DE NOVIEMBRE – DIFERENCIACION EN LA EVALUACION – El equipo de Liderazgo de MAP (Jordan, Kimmie, Kjell, y Regina), ha sugerido formas en las cuales podemos utilizar las reuniones de maestros de cada mes para tiempo de trabajo distribuido. Es por eso que la Reunión de Maestros del 1 de noviembre será utilizada para repasar la diferenciación en la evaluación basandonos en las necesidades de los alumnos. Cada maestro traerá a la reunión una evaluación que ha usado o planea usar este año, y discutirá opciones de evaluación con sus colegas en grupos pequeños.
ACTIVIDADES EXTRACURRICULARES – Mayor información se proporcionará esta semana sobre las Actividades Extracurriculares que se llevarán a cabo en el segundo parcial.
