CURRICULUM WORK – Our teachers
wrapped a very intensive week of working with our Curriculum Consultant, Ms.
Judi Fenton, last Saturday. We thank all the teachers for making the necessary
accommodations in their personal schedules on Saturday and throughout the week
to participate in the Curriculum revision process. Our school has a very
dedicated and professional faculty, and together we will all be working diligently
in implementing the recommendations made by Ms. Fenton and the agreements made
by the faculty to strengthen our academic program.
SENIORS 2013 DONATION - A huge thank you to
the Seniors for the beautiful "Home
of the Wolves" sign!! We appreciate you and we wish you the best of
luck in your future endeavors. You will be greatly missed, and we know you are
going on to great things! 2013 -- you made it lucky!!!
DISCOVERY SCHOOL CHOIR ONCE
AGAIN EXCELS! On Saturday, April 27, our Discovery School Choir performed with the
Honduran singer Polache, the song “Mira Honduras” in the 100th
Anniversary of Banco Atlantida. Their participation was superb! We thank the
parents of our Discovery School Choir members for their continuous support, and
appreciate Ms. Pamela and Ms. Norma for their consistent dedication to the Choir
and for helping our students represent Discovery School so well!
ELEMENTARY SCIENCE FAIRS IN
TEGUCIGALPA THIS WEEK – Seven of our elementary students will be participating
in different Science Fairs this week. Four students will attend the Local
Elementary Science Fair at CEAD School on Tuesday, April 30. Three students will participate in the ABSH
Elementary Science Fair at the Mayan School on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May
4. Ms. Carol Rodriguez has worked with these students and will be accompanying
them on these events.
FOURTH QUARTER MIDTERM REPORTS
– the
Midterm reports for the fourth quarter will be issued on Friday, May 3. We ask
that parents discuss these reports with their child(ren) and contact the school
if you would like to meet with any teacher.
MAP SCHEDULE FOR THE SPRING
TESTING SESSION – Our final MAP testing session for the year begins on Monday, May 6.
Please check each grade’s blog for specific information regarding the schedule
for each grade. We ask our parents for their cooperation in making sure that
their children are not absent on the days of the assessments.
DISCOVERY SCHOOL BINGO - Last week the
school sent an envelope with 5 tickets to every Discovery family, and asked
each family to help us raise funds for Technology by selling the tickets. Each
ticket is worth Lps 150. Don't miss this opportunity to spend a lovely day with
your family and school community!

for the school. Please mark your calendars for this
Saturday, May 4! Lunch will be sold for all attending families, friends

SUMMER SCHOOL - The teachers
from grades 5-11 have identified the students that are candidates for Summer
School. Formal communication from the area administration will be taking place
in the following weeks. Please contact the school for further information
ENROLLMENT DRIVE: Last year's Enrollment Drive brought in 14
new students to the school and helped account for the 13% increase in
enrollment that we have experienced this year. With the help of our parents and
The Board of Directors has elected to repeat the Enrollment Drive again for the
2013-2014 school year.
1. PERIOD
OF THE ENROLLMENT DRIVE: This
opportunity is from April 16 until August 31, 2013, and is not
retroactive.
2. CONDITIONS:
A. Discovery Parent must personally introduce
a potential new student and parents to Ms. Giles at the beginning of the
admission process (this must be someone who has not already requested
information on admission)
B. The school will follow the usual admission
process in determining whether the student will be admitted
C. The cash
benefit will apply only if the new student is actually admitted.
3. CASH
BENEFIT FOR DISCOVERY SCHOOL PARENTS AND TEACHERS:
During the enrollment drive period, for each new
student that a family introduces to Ms. Giles and who is thereafter admitted
after meeting all of our admission requirements, the sponsoring parent or
teacher will receive a cash bonus in the amount of 5% of the tuition (not
capital fee) that the new student pays during the 2013-2014 school year.
4. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: All new students are required to meet the
admission requirements that are already established. If a student applies and
is not admitted, no bonus will be paid.
5. ORGANIZATIONS: This offer applies to individuals who pay
their own tuition and does not apply to organizations.
6. UNFORESEEN COMPLICATIONS: The Board reserves the right to discontinue
the Enrollment Drive at any time if there are any unforeseen complications for
the school.
**NOTE: If a class is or becomes full, Discovery
School reserves the right to put a new applicant on a waiting list. In that
case, the bonus would not be paid unless the child is admitted during the
2013-2014 school year.

COST: The research shows that when compared with
other top schools in Tegucigalpa, Discovery is NOT more expensive. When our
one-time capital fee is compared to paying a yearly matricula, and when other
fees such as uniforms, gym fees, book fees, etc. that other schools charge are
included, Discovery is NOT more expensive.
NON-PROFIT STATUS: Discovery is a non-profit school. The money that our parents pay goes to
education. It is not used for any
person’s personal enrichment. The
parents determine all budgets, salaries, and policies. They are the ones who own the school. Their children benefit from that investment.
SECONDARY ACADEMIC
PROGRAM: The academic
program in our Middle School and High School are rigorous and college
preparatory. Our goal is to prepare students for a variety of options when they
graduate. The Advanced Placement (AP) program provides courses that are taught
at the university level and in many cases leads to a student earning college
credit while still in High School. Our Math, Language Arts, and Spanish
programs in the High School are superior.

TRABAJO CURRICULAR – El sábado pasado, nuestros maestros completaron una semana muy intensa de trabajo con nuestra
Consultora Curricular, Ms. Judi Fenton. Agradecemos a todos los maestros por
hacer los arreglos necesarios en sus agendas personales para el sábado y
durante la semana para participar en el proceso de revisión Curricular. Nuestra
escuela tiene un personal docente muy dedicado y profesional, y juntos
estaremos trabajando diligentemente en la implementación de las recomendaciones

EL CORO DE LA ESCUELA DISCOVERY SOBRESALE DE NUEVO! El sábado 27 de
abril, el Coro de la Escuela Discovery se presentó junto con el cantante

FERIA DE CIENCIAS DE PRIMARIA EN TEGUCIGALPA ESTA
SEMANA – Siete de nuestros alumnos de
primaria estarán participando en diferentes Ferias de Ciencias esta semana.
Cuatro alumnos asistirán a la Feria de Ciencias local en la Escuela CEAD el día
martes 30 de abril. Tres alumnos participarán en la Feria de Ciencias de ABSH
en la Mayan School el viernes 3 y el sábado 4 de mayo. Ms. Carol Rodriguez ha
trabajado con estos alumnos y los acompañará a estos eventos.
REPORTES DE MEDIO PERIODO DEL CUARTO PARCIAL – Los reportes de Medio Periodo para el cuarto parcial
serán emitidos el viernes 3 de mayo. Les
solicitamos a los padres que discutan estos reportes con su(s) hijo(s) y que se
comuniquen con la escuela si desean reunirse con algún maestro.
HORARIO DE EXÁMENES MAP, PARA SESION DE PRIMAVERA – Nuestro última sesión de exámenes MAP de este año,
comienza el lunes 6 de mayo. Por favor revise el blog del grado para
información específica de cada grado. Les solicitamos a los padres su
cooperación en asegurarse que sus hijos no falten los días de las evaluaciones.
BINGO DE LA ESCUELA DISCOVERY – La semana pasada la escuela envió un sobre con 5

su ayuda en vender los boletos para recaudar fondos para Tecnología. Cada
boleto cuesta Lps.150. No se pierdan la oportunidad de pasar un hermoso día con

ESCUELA DE VERANO - Los maestros de los grados de
5-11 han identificado a los alumnos que son candidatos para la Escuela de
Verano. Habrá comunicación formal del administrador del área en las próximas
semanas. Por favor comuníquese a la escuela para mayor información.
CAMPAÑA DE MATRICULA: La Campaña de Matricula del año pasado trajo 14 nuevos
alumnos a la escuela y ayudo con el conteo con un 13% de incremento en la
matricula que hemos experimentado este año. La Junta Directiva ha decidido
repetir la Campaña de Matricula para el año escolar 2013-2014.
- PERIODO DE LA CAMPAÑA DE MATRICULA: Esta oportunidad es desde el 16 de abril hasta
el 31 de agosto del 2013, y no es retroactivo.
- CONDICIONES:
A.
El padre de
Discovery debe presentar personalmente al nuevo alumno potencial y los padres a
Ms. Giles al comienzo de proceso de admisión (estos deben ser personas que no
han solicitado información de admisión)
B.
La escuela
seguirá el proceso de admisión acostumbrado para determinar si el alumno es
admitido
C.
El beneficio en efectivo aplicará solamente si
el nuevo alumno es realmente aceptado en el año escolar 2013-2014.
- EL BENEFICIO EN EFECTIVO PARA LOS
PADRES Y MAESTROS DE DISCOVERY:
Durante
el periodo de matrícula, por cada nuevo alumno que una familia presente a Ms.
Giles y por consecuencia es admitido después de reunir todos los requisitos de
admisión, el padre o maestro que lo apadrino recibirá un bono en efectivo
del 5% de la colegiatura (no el fondo de inversión) que el nuevo alumno pague durante el año
escolar 2013-2014.
- REQUISITOS DE ADMISION: Se requiere de todos los nuevos alumnos cumplir
con los requisitos de admisión que ya están establecidos. Si un alumno
aplica y no es admitido, no se pagará el bono.
- ORGANIZACIONES: Esta oferta solo aplica a individuos que pagan
su propia colegiatura y no aplica a organizaciones.
- COMPLICACIONES IMPREVISTAS: La Junta se reserva el derecho a descontinuar
la Campaña de Matricula en cualquier momento si se presentan
complicaciones inesperadas para la escuela.
**NOTA: Si un grado se llena, la Escuela Discovery se reserva el
derecho de poner al nuevo aplicante en lista de espera. En tal caso, el bono no
será efectivo a menos que el alumno sea admitido durante el año escolar
2013-2014.

Discovery NO es más cara. Cuando nuestro fondo de inversión de una sola
vez se compara con el pago de una matrícula anual, y cuando otros gastos tales
como uniformes, cuotas gimnasio, las tasas de libros, etc. que las otras
escuelas cobran se incluyen en los costos, Discovery NO es más caro.
ESTADO SIN FINES DE LUCRO: Discovery es una escuela sin
fines de lucro. El dinero que nuestros padres pagan destina a la educación. No
se utiliza para el enriquecimiento personal de cualquier persona. Los padres a
determinar todos los presupuestos, salarios y políticas. Ellos son los que son
dueños de la escuela. Sus hijos se benefician de dicha inversión.
PROGRAMA ACADÉMICO DE SECUNDARIA: El programa
académico de nuestra Escuela Secundaria y Bachillerato son rigurosos y preparan
a nuestros estudiantes para la universidad. Nuestra meta es preparar a los
estudiantes para una variedad de opciones cuando se gradúen. La colocación
avanzada (AP) proporciona cursos que se imparten a nivel universitario y en
muchos casos conduce a un estudiante obtener créditos universitarios mientras
están en la escuela secundaria. Nuestra Matemáticas, Lengua y Literatura, y los
programas de Español en Secundaria son superiores.
