ELEMENTARY SCIENCE FAIRS IN
TEGUCIGALPA – Last week four of our elementary students represented Discovery School
at the Local Elementary Science Fair at CEAD School and at the ABSH Elementary
Science Fair at the Mayan School. Congratulations to Roberto Nuñez for winning 2nd place at the Local Science
fair, and thanks to Ms. Carol Rodriguez who worked with these students and
accompanied them on these events.
FOURTH QUARTER MIDTERM REPORTS
–Midterm
reports were issued last Friday. Please remember to sign them and return them
as soon as possible. If you would like to have a conference with any teacher,
please contact the school to set up an appointment.
GENERAL ASSEMBLY will be held on
Thursday, May 16, beginning at 6:00 p.m. According to our by-laws, we need a
quorum of at least 57 families represented--please join us at this year’s
meeting. Three of our Board members will complete their 2-year terms (Wendy
Willemsen, Wendolyn Sanchez, and Arnaldo Palma). These members are all running
for re-election. If you would also like to nominate someone for one of these

THE CHRONICLES OF DISCOVERY
GALA -- The Chronicles Gala is coming May 17,
2013. This formal, black tie event is
modeled after the Oscars in that there will be pomp and extravagance, live
entertainment and hors d’oeuvres, photographers and a quartet. It is a celebration of literature and art,
specifically for the Chronicles of Discovery Literary and Art magazine.
The Gala begins at 7:00 p.m. May 17, 2013. Purchase your tickets for L.
100 from any AP English Composition student, Mr. Fenn, or Carolina. (EL Heraldo
and TN5 will be covering the event.)
RESERVE YOUR CHILD’S SPACE NOW
FOR 2013-2014 – If you have not already submitted your form indicating if your child
will be at Discovery next year, please do so today (it only takes a few minutes). We ask that one form be completed for each child

reservation (one per family), is required in order to reserve a space for your

ENROLLMENT DRIVE: Last year's Enrollment Drive brought in 14
new students to the school and helped account for the 13% increase in
enrollment that we have experienced this year. With the help of our parents and
The Board of Directors has elected to repeat the Enrollment Drive again for the
2013-2014 school year.
1. PERIOD OF THE ENROLLMENT DRIVE: This opportunity is from April 16 until
August 31, 2013, and is not retroactive.
2. CONDITIONS:
A. Discovery Parent must personally introduce
a potential new student and parents to Ms. Giles at the beginning of the
admission process (this must be someone who has not already requested
information on admission)
B. The school will follow the usual admission
process in determining whether the student will be admitted
C. The cash
benefit will apply only if the new student is actually admitted.
3. CASH
BENEFIT FOR DISCOVERY SCHOOL PARENTS AND TEACHERS:
During the enrollment drive period, for each new
student that a family introduces to Ms. Giles and who is thereafter admitted
after meeting all of our admission requirements, the sponsoring parent or
teacher will receive a cash bonus in the amount of 5% of the tuition (not
capital fee) that the new student pays during the 2013-2014 school year.
4. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: All new students are required to meet the
admission requirements that are already established. If a student applies and
is not admitted, no bonus will be paid.
5. ORGANIZATIONS: This offer applies to individuals who pay
their own tuition and does not apply to organizations.
6. UNFORESEEN COMPLICATIONS: The Board reserves the right to discontinue
the Enrollment Drive at any time if there are any unforeseen complications for
the school.
**NOTE: If a class is or becomes full, Discovery
School reserves the right to put a new applicant on a waiting list. In that
case, the bonus would not be paid unless the child is admitted during the
2013-2014 school year.

COST: The research shows that when compared with
other top schools in Tegucigalpa, Discovery is NOT more expensive. When our
one-time capital fee is compared to paying a yearly matricula, and when other
fees such as uniforms, gym fees, book fees, etc. that other schools charge are
included, Discovery is NOT more expensive.
NON-PROFIT STATUS: Discovery is a non-profit school. The money that our parents pay goes to
education. It is not used for any
person’s personal enrichment. The parents
determine all budgets, salaries, and policies.
They are the ones who own the school.
Their children benefit from that investment.
SECONDARY ACADEMIC
PROGRAM: The academic
program in our Middle School and High School are rigorous and college
preparatory. Our goal is to prepare students for a variety of options when they
graduate. The Advanced Placement (AP) program provides courses that are taught
at the university level and in many cases leads to a student earning college
credit while still in High School. Our Math, Language Arts, and Spanish
programs in the High School are superior.

FERIAS DE CIENCIAS DE PRIMARIA EN TEGUCIGALPA - La semana
pasada cuatro de nuestros alumnos de primaria representaron a la Escuela
Discovery en la Feria de Ciencias local de Primaria en la Escuela CEAD y en la
Feria de Ciencias ABSH en la Mayan School. Felicitamos a Roberto Nuñez por obtener el 2do lugar en la feria de ciencias
local, y agradecemos a Ms. Carol Rodriguez quien trabajo con estos alumnos y
los acompaño en estos eventos.
REPORTES DE MEDIO PERIODO DEL CUARTO PARCIAL - El viernes
pasado se enviaron los reportes de medio periodo. Por favor recuerde firmarlos
y enviarlos de regreso tan pronto como sea posible. Si le gustaría tener una
conferencia con algún maestro, por favor comuníquese con la escuela para
concertar una cita.
LA ASAMBLEA GENERAL se llevará a cabo el día jueves 16 de mayo, iniciando a las 6:00 p.m.

LA GALA DE LAS CRONICAS DE DISCOVERY – La Gala de las Crónicas se llevará a cabo este 17 de
mayo de 2013. Este evento formal, de etiqueta se hace como modelo de los
premios Oscar en el que tendremos pompa y extravagancia, entretenimiento en
vivo y aperitivos, fotógrafos y un cuarteto. Es una celebración de la
literatura y el arte, especialmente para la revista de Literatura y Arte
Crónicas de Discovery.
La gala dará inicio a las
7:00 p.m. el 17 de mayo de 2013. Compre sus boletos por L.100 de cualquiera de
los alumnos de la clase Composición Inglesa de AP, Mr. Fenn, o Carolina. (El
evento será cubierto por El Heraldo y TN5.)
RESERVE EL CUPO DE SU HIJO PARA EL AÑO 2013-2014 – Si

CAMPAÑA DE MATRICULA: La Campaña de Matricula del año pasado trajo 14 nuevos
alumnos a la escuela y ayudo con el conteo con un 13% de incremento en la
matricula que hemos experimentado este año. La Junta Directiva ha decidido
repetir la Campaña de Matricula para el año escolar 2013-2014.
- PERIODO DE LA CAMPAÑA DE MATRICULA: Esta oportunidad es desde el 16 de abril hasta
el 31 de agosto del 2013, y no es retroactivo.
- CONDICIONES:
A.
El padre de
Discovery debe presentar personalmente al nuevo alumno potencial y los padres a
Ms. Giles al comienzo de proceso de admisión (estos deben ser personas que no
han solicitado información de admisión)
B.
La escuela
seguirá el proceso de admisión acostumbrado para determinar si el alumno es
admitido
C.
El beneficio en efectivo aplicará solamente si
el nuevo alumno es realmente aceptado en el año escolar 2013-2014.
- EL BENEFICIO EN EFECTIVO PARA LOS
PADRES Y MAESTROS DE DISCOVERY:
Durante
el periodo de matrícula, por cada nuevo alumno que una familia presente a Ms.
Giles y por consecuencia es admitido después de reunir todos los requisitos de
admisión, el padre o maestro que lo apadrino recibirá un bono en efectivo
del 5% de la colegiatura (no el fondo de inversión) que el nuevo alumno pague durante el año escolar
2013-2014.
- REQUISITOS DE ADMISION: Se requiere de todos los nuevos alumnos cumplir
con los requisitos de admisión que ya están establecidos. Si un alumno
aplica y no es admitido, no se pagará el bono.
- ORGANIZACIONES: Esta oferta solo aplica a individuos que pagan
su propia colegiatura y no aplica a organizaciones.
- COMPLICACIONES IMPREVISTAS: La Junta se reserva el derecho a descontinuar
la Campaña de Matricula en cualquier momento si se presentan
complicaciones inesperadas para la escuela.
**NOTA: Si un grado se llena, la Escuela Discovery se reserva el
derecho de poner al nuevo aplicante en lista de espera. En tal caso, el bono no
será efectivo a menos que el alumno sea admitido durante el año escolar
2013-2014.

COSTO: La
investigación muestra que en comparación con otras escuelas en Tegucigalpa,
Discovery NO es más cara. Cuando nuestro fondo de inversión de una sola
vez se compara con el pago de una matrícula anual, y cuando otros gastos tales
como uniformes, cuotas gimnasio, las tasas de libros, etc. que las otras
escuelas cobran se incluyen en los costos, Discovery NO es más caro.
ESTADO SIN FINES DE LUCRO: Discovery es una escuela sin
fines de lucro. El dinero que nuestros padres pagan destina a la educación. No
se utiliza para el enriquecimiento personal de cualquier persona. Los padres a
determinar todos los presupuestos, salarios y políticas. Ellos son los que son
dueños de la escuela. Sus hijos se benefician de dicha inversión.
PROGRAMA ACADÉMICO DE SECUNDARIA: El programa
académico de nuestra Escuela Secundaria y Bachillerato son rigurosos y preparan
a nuestros estudiantes para la universidad. Nuestra meta es preparar a los
estudiantes para una variedad de opciones cuando se gradúen. La colocación
avanzada (AP) proporciona cursos que se imparten a nivel universitario y en
muchos casos conduce a un estudiante obtener créditos universitarios mientras
están en la escuela secundaria. Nuestra Matemáticas, Lengua y Literatura, y los
programas de Español en Secundaria son superiores.
