Tuesday, September 17 is Teacher’s Day in Honduras. We
recognize our Discovery teachers’ hard work, dedication and professionalism.
Discovery School is very fortunate to have them as part of our team!
THANK YOU to the Independence
Day Committee and its Coordinators, Mr. Sergio and Ms. Liana, for an
outstanding Independence Day celebration last Thursday. The activities were
very well organized, everything went according to schedule, and our students
had a wonderful time. Special thanks go out to our parents for their
contributions and assistance to the students’ typical breakfast.
MIDTERM REPORTS AND CONFERENCES – Midterm reports were issued last Thursday, September 12. We encourage
parents to go over them and discuss them with your child(ren), sign them, and
send them back to school. If you would like a conference and one was not
requested, please call the school to set up an appointment.
BULLYING WORKSHOP - Ms. Gloria
Palacios and Ms. Marilís Zambrana will be attending an informative workshop on
the topic of " Bullying" this coming Friday, September 20 at the
Intercontinental Hotel.
MAP FALL TESTING SESSION – Our first
MAP testing session for this school year will begin next Monday, September 23. The
specific times and dates for your child’s grade will be published in the
teacher’s blog. Parent cooperation in making sure our students are in school
and on time, well rested and with a good breakfast, is greatly appreciated.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WEDNESDAY IN SEPTEMBER – There will be no school for students on Wednesday, September 25.
Teachers will receive follow-up training with Ms. Judi Fenton on implementing
the Common Core curriculum, differentiating lessons and assessments, Four
Blocks of Literacy Program, and 6+1 Writing Traits. (Judi will be here from
Sept. 23-28.)
DPTO – The Discovery Parent-Teacher
Organization (DPTO) works to help the school raise funds for projects and
provide fun activities for our students, parents, and teachers! Anyone
interested in helping to organize events is more than welcome to join us, as we
meet every Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. in the school Cafeteria. We would like to
remind all parents of the agreement made by the General Assembly in May 2013,
to have all parents donate L. 200 per child to help finance the events and
activities organized during the year. You can pay the fee in the Finance Office
to Ms. Belgica Varela, or your homeroom teacher. You will receive a receipt
from the school. Parents who still have not done so, please fill out the DPTO’s

(Only for Grades 9-11) INFORMATIVE MEETING WITH
PARENTS GRADES 9 – 11: We are inviting grades 9-11 parents to attend a
meeting with the school’s Counselor, Ms. Marilis Zambrana, and Ms. Gloria
Palacios, Secondary Assistant Principal to discuss college admissions and other
pertinent information. The meeting will take place Thursday, September 19 @
8:15 (school Library).

trabajo, dedicación y profesionalismo de nuestros maestros de Discovery. La
Escuela Discovery es muy afortunada de que sean parte de nuestro equipo!
AGRADECEMOS al Comité del Día de
la Independencia y a sus coordinadores, Mr. Sergio y Ms. Liana, por organizar
una celebración del Día de la Independencia espectacular el jueves pasado. Las actividades estuvieron
bien organizadas, todo se dio de acuerdo a lo planeado, y nuestros alumnos se
divirtieron mucho. Un agradecimiento especial a nuestros padres por su
colaboración y ayuda con el desayuno típico de los alumnos.
REPORTES DE MEDIO
PERIODO Y CONFERENCIAS – Los reportes de medio periodo se entregaron el pasado
jueves 12 de septiembre. Animamos a los padres que los revisen y los discutan
con su(s) hijo(s), los firmen, y los envíen de regreso a la escuela. Si desea
tener una conferencia y no fue solicitada por el maestro, por favor llame a la escuela para concertar
una cita.
TALLER DE “BULLYING”
(HOSTIGAMIENTO) - Ms. Gloria Palacios y Ms. Marilis Zambrana
estarán asistiendo a un taller informativo con el tema de “Bullying” este
viernes 20 de septiembre en el Hotel Intercontinental.
SESION DE OTOÑO DE
EXÁMENES MAP – Nuestra
primera sesión de exámenes MAP de este año comenzará el próximo lunes 23 de
septiembre. Las horas y fechas específicas para cada grado se publicarán en los
blogs de los maestros. Agradecemos en gran manera la colaboración de los padres
en asegurarse que sus hijos estén en la escuela y lleguen a tiempo, bien
descansados y bien desayunados.
MIÉRCOLES DE
DESARROLLO PROFESIONAL EN SEPTIEMBRE - No
habrá clases para los alumnos el miércoles 25 de septiembre. Los maestros
recibirán la continuación del entrenamiento con Ms. Judi Fenton en la
implementación del Currículo General, clases y evaluaciones diferenciales,
Programa de Cuatro Bloques de Literatura, y 6+1 Writing Traits. (Ms. Judi
estará aquí del 23-28 de septiembre)
DPTO - La Organización
de Padres-Maestros de Discovery (DPTO) trabaja arduamente para ayudar a la
escuela a recaudar fondos para proyectos escolares y darle a los alumnos, padres
y maestros actividades de diversión. Cualquiera que esté interesado en unirse y
ayudar a organizar eventos es más que bienvenido, las reuniones son cada martes
a las 7:30 a.m. en la Cafetería de la escuela. Quisiéramos recordar a todos los
padres el acuerdo realizado en la Asamblea General del mes de mayo 2013 de
pagar L.200 por alumno para ayudar a financiar eventos y actividades durante el
año. Puedes pagarlo en la oficina de Finanzas a Ms. Bélgica Varela o enviarlo
al maestro del aula quienes extenderán un recibo de la escuela. Los padres que

INFORMATIVAS CON LOS PADRES DE 9 - 11 GRADO: Invitamos a todos los

para hablar de admisión en las universidades y otra información pertinente. La
