DECISION MAKING - The Administration will be in close communication with the Regional
Security Office at the U.S. Embassy and the school will base our decisions on
the actions of the U.S. Embassy regarding closing or staying open.
LESSON PREPARATION - Four years ago, during the national election and curfews that
followed, our accrediting agency did not require us to make up school days lost
because of the excellent manner in which teachers stayed connected with their
students and continued providing instruction via distance learning across all
grade levels. Our teachers are
prepared to post assignments/ projects/ homework for days that we may miss.
Parents and students are encouraged to check the teachers’ blogs for updated
information.
MIDTERM
REPORTS –
Midterm Reports for the second quarter were issued last Friday, November 22. These
should be signed by parents and returned to the teachers as soon as possible. If
you would like a conference and one was not requested by the teacher, please
call the school to set up an appointment.
ADVANC-ED LATIN AMERICA CONFERENCE –Ms. Giles is attending the yearly Advanc-Ed Latin America Conference.
In her absence, if you have any problems please contact her via email or refer
to your Area Administrator. For any security concerns, especially surrounding
the election weekend, please contact Efrain Ochoa in Finance, who will be in
contact with Ms. Giles and the US Embassy Regional Security Officer.
MINI CHRISTAMS BAZAAR – Our school DPTO is
organizing an early shopping opportunity for our families on December 5 and
6. The event will last all school day long! Come and support our DPTO and
take advantage of the great items that will be on sale at terrific prices!!!!
SONGFEST – In order to
avoid the late afternoon and early evening traffic congestion, the school’s
annual Songfest will be held on Friday,
December 13, at 1:30 p.m.
Parents are welcome to come and have lunch with our students before the
performances. There will also be a sale of food, baked goods, and drinks.
PREPARATION
FOR SONG FEST - In preparation for our Songfest, we are asking
parents who have spare Christmas decorations which they would like to share
with us for the stage presentation taking place on December.13, to please send
them to your child's homeroom teacher next week.We will take good care of them
and return them by Monday, December 16. Anticipated thanks for your
unconditional support in all of our school activities.
CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE: Nuestro Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) is an
international organization that takes in abandoned and orphaned children,
providing a home and education. Here in
Honduras, the NPH organization provides for over 500 children in a large ranch
near La Venta
and home in Tegucigalpa for severely handicapped children. While many children at the ranch have aunts,
uncles, or grandparents that come to visit them and can provide some Christmas
gifts, some children at a ranch have no family to visit. It is these children for whom we would like
to provide this Christmas. On the
second floor of the secondary building, an NPH Giving Tree will be set up. Choose a paper tree that has a child’s
information about his/her size for shoes or socks. Purchase the new item and return it to Mrs.
Agurcia’s Room (Rm. 7) by Tuesday, December 10, with the tree tag taped to
it. As well, there are tree tags for
basic food items that will be donated to the orphanage. Cash donations will also be accepted to
provide shoes and socks for children whose tags were not selected. Thank you for giving this Christmas! For more information about NPH’s work in

FUNDACION ABRIGO - Discovery School,
in solidarity with FUNDACION ABRIGO ( A foundation that provides lodging for
families from outside Tegucigalpa who bring patients to Hospital Escuela), is
asking our school community’s collaboration. If you would like to participate
and help this organization, please send a donation of 1
gallon
of disinfectant per family by Friday, December 6. Your contribution
will be greatly appreciated!

SCIENCE FAIR: Please remember that Science
Fair will be held on Friday, December 6th.
That day, all 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10A students will be involved in the
fair during 3rd and 4th periods. First period will proceed as normal and 1/2 of
2nd period will be used to set up the fair on the second floor of the secondary
building. As well, students with top
projects will be asked to present their project to a visiting judge that
afternoon in the library (meaning the library will not be available for classes
that afternoon). Students from other
classes will be invited to visit the fair in the following schedule: 6A, 6B, 10B, 11, and 12 during 3rd period,
and elementary classes during 4th period (10:53-11:43). More details will be
given closer to the fair.

TOMA DE DESICIONES - La administración
estará en constante comunicación con el Oficial Regional de Seguridad de la
Embajada Americana y la escuela basará las decisiones en las acciones de la
Embajada Americana concerniente a cerrar o mantenerse abiertos.
PREPARACION DE CLASES
– Hace
cuatro años, durante las elecciones nacionales y los toques de queda que le
siguieron, nuestra agencia de acreditaciones no nos solicitó que recuperáramos
los días de clases perdidos debido a la excelente manera en la cual los
maestros se mantuvieron conectados con sus alumnos y continuaron proveyéndoles instrucción
de aprendizaje a distancia en todos los niveles. Nuestros maestros están preparados para publicar
tareas/proyectos/trabajos por los días que se puedan perder. Animamos a los
padres y alumnos a revisar los blogs de los maestros en caso de que publiquen
nueva información.
REPORTES DE MEDIO
PERIODO – Los
Reportes de medio periodo del segundo trimestre se entregaron el pasado viernes
22 de noviembre. Estos deben ser firmados por los padres y enviados de regreso
a los maestros tan pronto como sea posible. Si desea tener una conferencia y no
fue solicitada por el maestro. Por favor llamar a la escuela para concertar una
cita.
CONFERENCIA ADVANC-ED
LATINO AMERICA – Ms.
Giles se encuentra en la conferencia anual Advanced Ed. En su ausencia, si
tiene algún problema por favor comuníquese con el Administrador del Área (Ms.
Nora para Pre-escolar; Ms. Cristiana para Primaria; Ms. Gloria para
Secundaria). Por asuntos relacionados a la seguridad, especialmente acerca de
las elecciones, por favor comuníquese con Efrain en la Oficina de Finanzas,
quien estará en contacto con el Oficial Regional de Seguridad de la Embajada
Americana.
MINI BAZAR NAVIDEÑO –
El DPTO
de la escuela está organizando una oportunidad temprana para realizar compras
para nuestras familias el 5 y 6 de diciembre. El evento durará todo el día
escolar. Venga y apoye nuestro DPTO y aproveche las ofertas de los maravillosos

FESTIVAL DE LA
CANCION – Para
evitar el congestionamiento del trafico de la tarde y al iniciar la noche, el
Festival anual de la Canción se llevará a cabo el día viernes 13 de diciembre a la 1:30 p.m. Invitamos a los
padres a venir y almorzar con sus alumnos antes de las presentaciones. También tendremos
venta de comida, repostería, y bebidas.
PREPARACION PARA EL
FESTIVAL DE LA CANCION - Como preparación para
nuestro Festival de la Canción, estamos solicitando a los padres decoraciones
de Navidad extra que puedan compartir con nosotros para la presentación en el
escenario del 13 de diciembre. Por favor
envíelos al maestro guía de su hijo(a) la próxima semana. Los cuidaremos mucho
y se los regresaremos el lunes 16 de diciembre. Agradecemos anticipadamente su
apoyo incondicional en todas las actividades escolares.
ARBOL DE NAVIDAD DE
DONATIVOS: Nuestros
Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) es una organización internacional que acoge niños
abandonados y huérfanos, para proveerles casa y educación. Aquí en Honduras, la
organización NPH cuida a más de 500 niños en una finca grande cerca de La Venta
y en casa en Tegucigalpa para niños con discapacidades severas. Mientras que
algunos niños de la finca tienen las visitas de sus tías, tíos, o abuelos que
les pueden llevar regalos de navidad, algunos de los niños en la misma finca no
tienen familia que los visite. Es a estos niños a los cuales deseamos
ofrecerles algo en esta navidad. En el segundo piso del edificio de secundaria,
se pondrá un árbol de donativos para NPH. Escoja un arbolito de papel que tenga
la información del niño acerca de su talla de zapato o calcetines. Compre el artículo
nuevo y tráigalo al aula de Ms. Christina Agurcia (aula 7) antes del martes 10
de diciembre, con el arbolito de papel pegado. Asimismo, hay etiquetas de
arbolitos para productos de la canasta básica que serán donados al orfanato.
Las donaciones en efectivo también son aceptadas para comprar zapatos y
calcetines a los niños que nadie seleccionó su etiqueta. Les agradecemos por

FUNDACION ABRIGO – La Escuela Discovery,
en solidaridad con la FUNDACION ABRIGO (una fundación que provee alojamiento a
las familias de las afueras de Tegucigalpa que traen pacientes al Hospital
Escuela), está solicitando a la comunidad escolar su colaboración. Si desea
participar y ayudar a esta organización, por favor envíe la donación de 1 galón de desinfectante por
familia, a más tardar el viernes 6 de diciembre. Su colaboración será muy
valiosa!
Solo para Secundaria:
FERIA DE CIENCIAS: Por favor recuerde
que la Feria de Ciencias se llevará a cabo el viernes 6 de diciembre. Ese día,
todos los alumnos de 7mo, 8vo, 9no, y 10A estarán involucrados en la feria
durante el 3er y 4to periodo. El primer periodo será normal y la mitad del 2do
periodo será utilizado para arreglar la feria en el segundo piso del edificio
de secundaria. Asimismo, los alumnos con proyectos con los proyectos
principales se les pedirá que presenten su proyecto a un juez visitante esa
misma tarde en la biblioteca. Los alumnos de otras clases serán invitados a ver
la feria con el siguiente horario: 6A, 6B, 10B, 11, y 12 irán durante el 3er
periodo, y los alumnos de primaria durante el 4to periodo (10:53-11:43). Mas detalles
del horario se darán cuando estemos más cerca de la fecha de la feria.
