AFTER-SCHOOL SPORTS: The school is
reorganizing the After-School Sports Program beginning Tuesday, March 25. The
activities will be led and supervised by our PE teachers, Ms. Carol Rodriguez
and Mr. Richard Girbal. They will be offered on Tuesday, Wednesday,
and Friday each week from 3:15 – 5:00 p.m., and provide a
variety of physical activities. The cost will continue to be as follows:
L. 1,000 per month for 2 times a week, or
L. 1,500 per month for 3 times a week.
The payment will be made at the Finance Office in
the first week of every month.
The school will continue to offer bus
transportation following the activities within the main part of Tegucigalpa for
all three days, with the following cost:
L. 60 for 1 time a week
L. 100 for 2 times a week, or
L. 150 for 3 times a week.
These payments should also be made at
the Finance Office in the first week of every month.
Please note that we will not have the
activities on any days when the students are not in school.
If you have already paid
for the activities for March or April, please inform Ms. Giles or Mr.
Efrain in Finance.
If your child has not
already been attending the After-School Sports Program, you can still enroll
him/her by informing Ms. Giles or Ms. Carol Rodriguez (see email addresses
below).

END-OF-SCHOOL-DAY
PICK UP: We have had
several incidents of students not being picked up on time at the end of the
school day. This results in a very long day for your child, and it creates a
problem in terms of supervision.
***PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOUR CHILD SHOULD BE PICKED UP
BY 3:30 P.M.unless s/he is in Choir, Sports, or staying with a
teacher for tutoring or detention.
** When picking your child
up, please do not park in the yellow-lined areas in front of the Art
Room, Computer Lab, Office and pick up area. Our teachers are working
hard for dismissal to run smoothly and safely, and your cooperation is much
needed.
CHOIR PARENTS: Choir practice ends at 4:00
p.m. ***If your child is involved in the Choir, s/he should be picked up
by 4:15 p.m. at the latest. ***
AFTER-SCHOOL SPORTS:
If your child is involved in the After-School Sports program, you need
to pick your child up promptly at 5:00 p.m.
For security reasons, we would like for all students
and staff to be off the campus by 5:10 p.m. each day.

ELEMENTARY READ-A-THON – This is week four of the Early Childhood and
Elementary READ – A – THON for grades K-5. Please remind your child(ren) to
read as much as they can, and to record their books in the Reading Log that was
provided. Finished reading logs should be taken to your Area Administrator.

**Sofía Pina has been invited to the Hesburgh
International Scholars Experience at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.
This experience will allow her to learn more about Notre Dame education. All
essentials for the weekend-- travel costs, accommodations, and meals- will
be provided and financed by the University. We feel very proud that Sofía
is a Discovery School student!

MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL NEWS - As an extension of the school’s curriculum, the 6th and 7th graders are
having their traditional 4- day field trips from Wednesday, March 26 to
Saturday, March 29.
Ø The 6th gradestudents will be visiting Copan Ruins to
learn more about the Honduran culture and its legacy. They will also visit the Macaw
Bird Park. The teachers who will accompany the 6th graders are
Ms. DinoraAgurcia and Ms. Gloria Palacios.
Ø The 7th grade students will be visiting Lake Yojoa to
learn about stalagmites and stalactites, clean energy produced at El Cajon
and different land formations in the area. The teacher who will accompany the 7th
graders is Mr. Cesar Martinez,
Ø A group of high school students will embark on a peace mission to La Ceiba. They
will be entering the Model United Nations Simulation at Mazapan School. The following students will represent
Discovery School: Juan Diego Caballero, Gabriel Rodriguez, Jose Antonio Zuniga,
Diego Aguilar, Kat Fenn, Catalina Correa, Victoria Glynn and SachiKameishi. The
teacher who will accompany these students is Mr. Kjell Fenn.
ART- A -THON : as part of
the AP Literature and Composition class, Andrea Martinez and Victoria Glynn have
organized an event called the "Art-A-Thon" to promote the Chronicles
of Discovery Literary and Art Magazine. This coming Friday, March 28 they will
have their third Art-A-Thon during the high school lunch. The following people
will be participating:

CAYOS COCHINOS COMMUNITY SERVICE: As part of TES, Trabajo Educativo Social, the 11th graders will be
going to Cayos Cochinos the 5th – 9th of April to assist the community of Cayo
Mayor. The Alfonso Lacayo Public School is in need of school materials, so the
Junior class has decided to conduct a voluntary school supply drive. They would
appreciate any and all donations but wish to ask the following classes that
each student contribute with the following:
1st & 2nd grade – 2 sharpeners
3rd & 4th grade – 1 pack of 12 colored pencils
5th grade – 2 scissors
6th – 8th grade – 2 normal sized composition notebooks
9th grade – black, red, and blue pens (one of each)
10th grade – 1 pack of 12 pencils and 2 erasers
12th grade – 4 UHU sticks
CHOIR MEETING – There will be a Choir meeting on Monday, March 31
at 3:15 p.m. in the school library. Important information will be discussed in
this meeting. At least one parent for each student who is going to New York
City must attend!
CONCERT -

ACTIVIDADES
EXTRACURRICULARES: La
escuela está reorganizando el Programa de Deportes de las Actividades Extracurriculares
a partir del 25 de marzo. Las actividades serán dirigidas y supervisadas por
nuestros maestros de Educación Física, Ms. Carol Rodriguez y Mr. Ricahrd
Girbal. Lo estarán ofreciendo los martes, miércoles y viernes
de cada semana de 3:15 – 5:00 p.m., y proporcionarán una variedad de
actividades físicas. Los costos continuarán siendo los siguientes:
L. 1,000 mensual por 2 veces a la
semana, o
L. 1,500 mensual por 3 veces a la
semana.
El
pago debe hacerse en la Oficina de Finanzas durante la primera semana
de cada mes.

PRE-ESCOLAR Y PRIMARIA – Esta es la cuarta semana del MARATON DE LECTURA de

tanto como puedan, y registrar sus libros en la Hoja de Seguimiento que se les
proporcionó. Las hojas de seguimiento completas deben ser llevadas a su
administrador de área.

NOTICIAS DE
SECUNDARIA – Como
una extensión del currículo escolar, los alumnos de 6to y 7mo grado van a
realizar su tradicional paseo de 4 días desde el miércoles 26 de marzo al sábado
29 de marzo.
Ø Los alumnos de 6to
grado estarán visitando las Ruinas de Copan para aprender acerca de
la cultura y legado de Honduras. También visitarán el Parque de Aves y
Reserva Natural Guacamayas. Los maestros que acompañaran a los alumnos de
6to son Ms. Dinora Agurcia y Ms. Gloria Palacios.
Ø Los alumnos de 7to
grado estarán visitando el Lago de Yojoa para aprender sobre los
estalagmitas y estalactitas, energía limpia producida en el Cajón y
diferentes formaciones de tierra en el área. El maestro que acompañará a los
alumnos de 7mo es Mr. Cesar Martinez.
Ø Un grupo de alumnos
de secundaria se embarcarán en una misión de paz a La Ceiba. Ellos
entrarán en Simulación de Modelo de Naciones Unidas en la Escuela Mazapan.
Los siguientes alumnos representarán a la Escuela Discovery: Juan Diego

COCHINOS: Como
parte de TES, Trabajo Educativo Social, los alumnos de 11vo grado irán a Cayos
