THIS MEMO CAREFULLY FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION
2014-2015
CALENDAR: Attached to this email is
the proposed Calendar for the 2014-2015 school year. We are providing this to
parents and teachers so they can keep the dates in mind when considering travel
options for the summer. The calendar will be presented for approval of the
parents at the General Assembly in May.
MARKETING
DISCOVERY SCHOOL: The
Marketing Committee has been very active in developing ways to market the
school. We are printing brochures and colorful signs that will let the public
know more about us. If you have a business or organization that would like to
display either a sign or brochures, please contact Karla Soto, Marketing Coordinator,
at dsmarketing@discoveryschool.edu.hn
and we will provide those to you.
END-OF-SCHOOL-DAY PICK UP: We have had several incidents of students not being
picked up on time at the end of the school day. This results in a very long day
for your child, and it causes us a problem in terms of supervision.
***PLEASE
BE ADVISED THAT YOUR CHILD SHOULD BE PICKED UP BY 3:30 P.M. unless s/he is in Choir, Sports, or staying with a
teacher for tutoring or detention.
** When picking your child up, please do not
park in the yellow-lined areas in front of the Art Room, Computer Lab, Office
and pick up area. Our teachers are working hard for dismissal to run
smoothly and safely, and your cooperation is much needed.
CHOIR
PARENTS: Choir practice ends at 4:00 p.m. ***If your child
is involved in the Choir, s/he should be picked up by 4:15 p.m. at the
latest. ***
AFTER-SCHOOL
SPORTS ***If your child is involved in the After-School Sports program with Mr.
Eric, you need to pick your child up promptly at 5:00 p.m. ***
For
security reasons, we would like for all students and staff to be off the campus
by 5:10 p.m. each day.

AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES AND SUPERVISION: Please be advised that if your child is
staying at the school beyond 3:15 p.m. while waiting for a sibling who is in
Choir or tutoring, we need to know that--please inform Ms. Carolina,
Receptionist (dssecretary@discoveryschool.edu.hn)

If
you want your child to join the After-School Activities program, the charge is
L. 1,000 per month (for attending twice a week) or L. 1,500 per month (for
attending three times a week), and you need to arrange that with Mr. Eric. Some
of these siblings have been joining the sports and it is awkward for Mr. Eric
to say anything to them. He would be happy for them to join the group—you just
need to arrange it with him.
EARLY CHILDHOOD AND ELEMENTARY READ-A-THON – This is week 3 of the Early Childhood and
Elementary READ – A – THON for grades K-5. Please remind your child(ren) to KEEP READING,
and to record their books in the Reading Log that was provided. Finished
reading logs should be taken to your area administrator. Please help us by encouraging your child to
read at home every day!
END OF THE THIRD QUARTER AND REPORT CARDS - We will
issue report cards on Tuesday, March 18, along with the conference forms.

CAYOS COCHINOS COMMUNITY SERVICE: As part of TES, Trabajo Educativo Social, the 11th graders will be
going to Cayos Cochinos the 5th – 9th of April to assist the community of Cayo
Mayor. The Alfonso Lacayo Public School is in need of school materials, so the
Junior class has decided to conduct a voluntary school supply drive. They would
appreciate any and all donations but wish to ask the following classes that
each student contribute the following:
1st & 2nd grade – 2 sharpeners
3rd & 4th grade – 1 pack of 12 colored pencils
5th grade – 2 scissors
6th – 8th grade – 2 normal sized composition notebooks
9th grade – black, red, and blue pens (one of each)
10th grade – 1 pack of 12 pencils and 2 erasers
12th grade – 4 UHU sticks
BAKE SALE – On
Wednesday, March 19, the Juniors will be having a bake sale during snack and
lunch. The Juniors will also have a box where all students are welcomed to
place their donations for Cayos Cochinos
CHOIR
MEETING – There will be a Choir meeting on Monday, March 31 at 3:15 p.m.
in the school library. Important information will be discussed in this meeting
about the upcoming New York trip and performance
At least one parent for each Choir member must attend.
CONCERT
- The Discovery School Music Department is inviting you to a Piano and Singing
Recital. Tickets are available with Ms. Norma and Ms. Pamela.

el Calendario propuesto para el año escolar 2014-2015. Estamos entregándolo a
los padres y maestros para que puedan considerar sus opciones de viajes para el

MERCADEO DE LA ESCUELA DISCOVERY: El Comité de Mercadeo
se ha dedicado muy activamente a desarrollar maneras para mercadear la escuela.
Estamos imprimiendo folletos y rótulos coloridos que nos darán a conocer al público.
Si usted tiene algún negocio u organización adonde le gustaría exhibir un
rotulo o folletos, por favor comuníquese con Karla Soto, Coordinadora de

y ella se los proporcionará.
RECOGER AL FINAL DEL DÍA: Hemos visto en varias
ocasiones que los alumnos no son recogidos a tiempo al final del día de
escolar. Esto da como resultado un día muy largo para su(s) hijo(s), y ocasiona
problemas en relación a la supervisión.
***POR FAVOR TOME NOTA QUE SU HIJO DEBE SER RECOGIDO ANTES DE LAS 3:30
P.M. a menos que este en el Coro, deportes, o se quede con un maestro
en turarías o detención.
**Cuando recoja a su
hijo(a), por favor no se estaciones
en el área con líneas amarillas enfrente del Aula de Arte, Lab. Computación,
oficina o área de dejar / recoger. Nuestros maestros se esfuerzan para
que la salida de los alumnos sea fluida y segura, y su cooperación es muy
necesaria.
PADRES DEL CORO: La práctica del Coro
termina a las 4:00 p.m. ***Si su hijo(a)
está en el Coro, debe ser recogido por tarde a las 4:15 p.m. ***
ACTIVIDADES EXTRA CURRICULARES ****Si su hijo(a) está en
el programa Extracurriculares de deportes con Mr. Eric, necesita recogerlo a

Por razones de seguridad, quisiéramos que todos los
alumnos y personal salga de las instalaciones antes de las 5:10 p.m. cada día.

Si desea que su hijo(a) se una al programa
Extracurricular, el cargo es de L.1,000 mensuales (por asistir dos veces a la
semana) o L.1,500 al mes (por asistir tres veces a la semana), y necesita hacer
los arreglos con Mr. Eric. Algunos de estos hermanos están incorporándose al
programa de deportes y es muy incomodo para Mr. Eric decirles algo. Nos
alegraría mucho que se unan al grupo—solo necesita hacer los arreglos con él.
MARATON DE LECTURA DE PRE-ESCOLAR Y PRIMARIA – Esta es la tercera semana del MARATON DE LECTURA de pre-escolar y
primaria en los grados de K-5. Favor recordarle a sus hijos leer tanto como puedan, y registrar sus libros
en la Hoja de Seguimiento que se les proporcionó. Las hojas de seguimiento
completas deben ser llevadas a su administrador de área. Favor ayúdenos a animar a su(s)
hijo(s) a leer en casa cada día!
FINAL DEL TERCER TRIMESTRE Y CALIFICACIONES – enviaremos las calificaciones el martes 18 de marzo, junto a las
solicitudes de conferencia.

SERVICIO SOCIAL CAYOS COCHINOS: Como parte de TES,
Trabajo Educativo Social, los alumnos de 11vo grado irán a Cayos Cochinos del 5
al 9 de abril para ayudar a la comunidad de Cayo Mayor. La Escuela Pública
Alfonso Lacayo tiene necesidad de materiales escolares, asi que la clase de los
Juniors ha decidido conducir una recolecta voluntaria de materiales escolares.
Ellos apreciarán cualquier donación y queremos solicitarles que cada alumno traiga
la contribución de los siguientes materiales por grado:
1er
y 2do grado – 2 sacapuntas
3er
y 4to grado – 1 paquete de 12 colores
5to
grado – 2 tijeras
6to
a 8vo grado – 2 cuadernos rayado tamaño normal
9no
grado – lápices tinta negro, azul y rojo (uno de cada uno)

grado – 1 paquete de 12 lápices y 2 borradores
12vo grado – 4 goma barra
UHU
VENTA DE PASTELES – El miércoles 19 de marzo, los
Juniors estarán realizando una venta de pasteles durante el receso y el
almuerzo. Asimismo los Juniors tendrán una caja para que todos los alumnos
pongan sus donaciones a Cayos Cochinos.
REUNIÓN DEL CORO – Habrá una reunión del Coro el lunes
31 de marzo, a las 3:15 p.m. en la biblioteca de la escuela. Se hablará de
información importante en esta reunión acerca del viaje y presentación próxima
a la ciudad de Nueva York por lo menos un padre de cada alumno que
va en el viaje debe asistir!
CONCIERTO – El Departamento de Música de la Escuela Discovery les
invita al recital de Piano y Canto. Los boletos están disponibles con Ms. Norma
y Ms. Pamela.
