MIDTERM AND PROGRESS
REPORTS
– The Midterm Reports for the fourth quarter will be issued this Friday,
April 25 (and not on May 1 as the school calendar states).
EARLY CHILDHOOD
FIELDTRIP
- Chiminike has extended an invitation to our Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2
students. A puppet show will be presented by the “Center for Puppetry Arts”
from Atlanta, Georgia on Wednesday April 23. Our little ones will be leaving
school at 8:30 a.m. and be back around 10:30 a.m.
CHRONICLES OF
DISCOVERY - The Discovery School Chronicles of Discovery Gala will
take place at the school's gym on Friday, April 25, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30
p.m.. It's a semi-formal event, with hors d'oeuvres and live entertainment.
Tickets will be sold in the Main Office by Ms. Carolina. Regular admission is
L.100 and Prime, the first two rows, is L.150.
The Chronicles of Discovery Literary and Art Magazine
will debut that night and copies will be on sale. Only high quality literature
and artwork are in the magazine, after a very critical submission process.
Those works which made it into the magazine will then compete that same night
to win, in their respective categories, the very prestigious award titled the
"Flame of Knowledge".
SPANISH WEEK – The
Spanish department is happy to announce that the students and teachers will be
involved in a series of activities during the week of April 23 to April 28 such
as: making sawdust carpets, drama, characterizations, language contests (“Bombas”,
proverbs and tongue twisters, quick search and acrostics), living statues, Latin
American writers wax museum and tri-folds, door decorations, guest writer Eduardo
Sandoval. All these activities will be carried out to celebrate the Spanish
week and will help our students improve and demonstrate their Spanish language
skills. Some of the activities will take place during class time and others
will be presented to students, teachers and parents who are our special guests.
This is the program that will be followed:
1. Inauguration
assembly–Wednesday, April 23 @ 8:00 a.m.in the gym (all school)
2. Recital of
poems and acrostics breakfast –Friday, April 25 @ 8:00 a.m.(Kindergarten
and Grade 1)

Yearbooks
coming soon! - Our Discovery School Yearbook 2013-2014 is going to be
out soon. This year our yearbook is going to be available in CD format only. If
you wish to pre-order,we will be sending a form this week for you to fill out.
We are only ordering a set number of CDs, so we encourage you to order as early
as possible.

Career Day - We will
be having a Career Day in school on May 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Several
professionals from within our Discovery School community, as well as from the
outside, will come to share with our students their experiences and thoughts
about the career they chose to pursue. Grades 9 through 12 are invited to
attend.

Upcoming
University visits
Monroe College in New
York is visiting our Juniors this coming Tuesday, April 22, at 11:45 a.m.The
presentation will take place in the Library.
DISCOVERY GOES GREEN - APRIL / EARTH MONTH- CELEBRATION
Recycling Drive- Teachers are encouraging their students to recycle paper, glass,
aluminum, and plastic. Students should bring materials from home, as well. The class with the greatest amount of
pounds/student will win a prize at the end of the month. Environmental Science students will collect
the materials from the homeroom classrooms twice a week.
Green Day- Each Friday wear green to celebrate and help us remember to take
“green actions.”
Increasing our green space- In line with Discovery’s month long effort to “go green,” on Friday,
April 25, Discovery students will have an opportunity to “green” our campus by
planting plants around the school. Discovery families can sponsor a plant for
only L400. This will include the plant,
soil, fertilizer, and other materials need for the planting. Students can have
the joy and experience of watching their plant grow over the years that they
are here at Discovery.If you wish to sponsor a plant, please send L400 cash to
your child’s homeroom teacher by Thursday, April 24th
DISCOVERY IDOL - The time is
here! Auditions will be held on Wednesday, April 23 in the music room. The
secondary will audition during lunch at 11:45 a.m. The elementary will audition
during recess at 12:45 p.m.Students should come ready to sing or dance their hearts
out for the judges. The winners will be announced on Thursday, April 24 and the
performance will take place on Thursday, May 1, at 10:15 a.m.
DPTO NEWS – The DPTO wishes to share the
following dates for the activities that will take place before the end of the
school year. Please mark your calendars, and support our DPTO by attending
these events! More information will be provided as we get closer to the dates.

PASEO DE PRE-ESCOLAR
- Chiminike ha extendido una invitación a
nuestros alumnos de Kinder, 1er grado y 2do grado. Les presentarán un show de títeres
por “el Centro de Artes de Títeres” de Atlanta, Georgia el día miércoles 23 de
abril. Nuestros pequeños estarán saliendo de la escuela a las 8:30 a.m. y
regresarán a las 10:30 a.m.
CRONICAS DE LA
ESCUELA DISCOVERY – La
Gala de las Crónicas de la Escuela Discovery se realizará en el gimnasio de la
escuela el día viernes 25 de abril, de 7:00 p.m. a 9:30 p.m. Es un evento semi-formal,
con aperitivos y música en vivo. Se venderán los boletos en la oficina por Ms.
Carolina. Silla regular costará L.100 y preferencial, las primeras dos filas, a
L.150.
La
revista literaria y de arte Las Crónicas de Discovery debutará esa noche y
estará a la venta al público. Solamente literatura y arte de alta calidad son
publicadas en la revista, después de pasar por un proceso de revisión muy
crítico. Los trabajos que logran estar en la revista esa misma noche competirán
para ganar, en su respectiva categoría, por el muy prestigioso premio titulado
la “Llama del Conocimiento”.
SEMANA DE ESPAÑOL –
El departamento de Español se
complace en anunciar que los alumnos y maestros estarán involucrados en una
serie de actividades durante la semana del 23 al 28 de abril como ser: hacer
alfombras de arena, drama, caracterizaciones, concursos de lenguaje (“Bombas”, proverbios
y trabalenguas, búsqueda rápida y acrósticos), estatuas vivientes, museo de
cera y trifolios de escritores Latinoamericanos, decoraciones de puertas,
escritor invitado Eduardo Sandoval. Todas estas actividades se llevarán a cabo
para celebrar la Semana del Español y ayudar a nuestros alumnos a mejorar y
demostrar sus habilidades en el idioma español. Algunas de estas actividades se
realizarán durante las horas de clases y otras se presentarán a los alumnos,
maestros y padres quienes son nuestros invitados especiales.

- Los
anuarios vienen pronto! – Nuestro anuario de la Escuela
Discovery 2013-2014 saldrá pronto. Este año nuestro anuario estará
disponible solamente en formato de CD. Si desea pre-ordenarlo, estaremos
enviando un formulario esta semana para que lo llene. Solamente estamos
pidiendo un numero establecido de de CDs, así que les animamos a ordenar
el suyo tan pronto como pueda.
- Día
de Orientación Profesional -
Estaremos realizando el Día de Orientación Profesional el 9 de mayo de
8:30 a.m. a 10:00 a.m. Varios profesionales de nuestra comunidad escolar, así
como de afuera, vendrán para compartir con nuestros alumnos sus
experiencias y pensamientos acerca de la carrera que decidieron llevar.
Los alumnos de los grados de 9 a 12 están invitados a asistir.
- Próximas
visitas de universidades
La Universidad de Monroe de Nueva York estará
visitando a nuestros Juniors el martes 22 de abril, a las 11:45 a.m. La presentación
se llevará a cabo en la biblioteca.
DISCOVERY ES VERDE –
ABRIL / MES DE LA TIERRA-CELEBRACION
Campaña
de reciclaje – Los
maestros promoverán el reciclaje de papel, vidrio, aluminio, y plástico. Los
alumnos también pueden traer materiales de casa. La clase con la mayor cantidad
de libras/alumno ganarán un premio al final del mes. Los alumnos de Ciencias
Ambientales recolectarán los materiales de las aulas dos veces a la semana.
Día
Ecológico – cada
viernes vistan de verde para celebrar y ayudarnos a recordar a tomar
“decisiones ecológicas”.
Aumentando
nuestro espacio verde – Alineándonos al esfuerzo de todo el mes en Discovery de “ser
ecológicos”, el día viernes 25 de abril, los alumnos de Discovery tendrán la
oportunidad de “reforestar” nuestras instalaciones sembrando plantas alrededor
de la escuela. Las familias de Discovery pueden patrocinar una planta por
solamente L400. Esto incluirá la planta, tierra, fertilizante, y otros
materiales necesarios para la siembra. Los alumnos pueden tener la satisfacción
y experiencia de ver su planta crecer durante los años que estén aquí en
Discovery. Si desea patrocinar una planta, favor envíe L400 en efectivo al
maestro guía de su hijo(a) antes del jueves 24 de abril.
DISCOVERY IDOL - El día ya llegó! las audiciones se llevarán a
cabo el miércoles 23 de abril en el aula de Música. Los alumnos de secundaria
tendrán sus audiciones durante el almuerzo a las 11:45 a.m. Los alumnos de
primaria tendrán las audiciones a las 12:45 p.m. Los alumnos deben venir listos
para cantar o bailar con todo su corazón para los jueces. Se anunciará a los
ganadores el jueves 24 de abril y la presentación se realizará el jueves 1 de
mayo, a las 10:15 a.m.
NOTICIAS DEL DPTO – El DPTO desea
compartir las siguientes fechas para las actividades que se llevaran a cabo
antes del fin de año escolar. Favor marque su calendario, y apoye a nuestro
DPTO asistiendo a estos eventos! Mayor información se proporcionará a medida
