OCTOBER HOLIDAYS – Congress has decreed that the holidays in October must be observed consecutively at the end of the month. In order to give you as much planning time as possible, we wish to inform you that the Discovery School has decided to observe the holidays as follows:

·         The scheduled holidays for October 13 and 20 shall be moved to October 30-31. Regular school schedules will be observed on October 13 and October 20.

·         The U.N Day Celebration will be held on October 29, followed by an extended break. This will be an “early release” day.

·         There will be no school on October 30, 31.  Classes will resume on November 3.

DPTO MEETING – Parents and teachers interested in a DPTO meeting should come to a meeting on Thursday, October 9 at 7:30 a.m. in the school cafeteria. The topics to be discussed are UN Day Celebration (October 29) and other school events.

ABSH TRACK AND FIELD - A group of 25 Secondary students traveled to San Pedro to participate in the annual ABSH Track & Field Competition last weekend. Thanks to Ms. Carol and Ms. Yeri for their extra hard work with our young athletes, and to our students for representing the school so well.

KUDOS FOR CREATIVE INSTRUCTION – Special Congratulations go out to Ms. Marisela and Ms. Norma who are integrating technology into their Spanish lessons. Their students are working on digitalizing and illustrating stories they have written in class using Storybird.com. The final products will be shared with the Early Childhood students and with parents during our Student Led Conferences.

PSAT – The 10th graders will be taking the PSAT exam on Wednesday, October 15. Please take note.

SCIENCE FAIR - Our Early Childhood and Elementary students will begin working on their Science Fair projects. Grades K-2 will work on whole group projects with their teacher, grades 3-5 will complete a packet according to established deadlines, and will work on this project at home.  Packets will be sent home on this week.

FERIADOS DE OCTUBRE – El Congreso  ha decretado que los feriados de octubre sean observados de manera consecutiva al final del mes. Para poder darles el mayor tiempo de planeación posible, deseamos informarles que la Escuela Discovery ha decidido tomar los feriados de la siguiente manera:

• Los feriados programados para el 13 y 20 de octubre serán trasladados al 30-31 de octubre. Tendremos horarios de clases regulares durante el 13 y 20 de octubre.

• La celebración del Día de las Naciones Unidas se realizará el 29 de octubre, este día los alumnos saldrán temprano (11:45 a.m.)

• No habrán clases el 30-31 de octubre. Volveremos a clases el 3 de noviembre.

REUNION DEL DPTO – Los padres y maestros interesados en la reunión del DPTO deben asistir a la misma, el día jueves 9 de octubre a las 7:30 a.m. en la cafetería de la escuela. Los temas a discutir son la celebración del Día de las Naciones Unidas (29 de octubre) y otros eventos escolares.

  ATLETISMO – Un grupo de 25 alumnos de secundaria viajaron a San Pedro Sula para representar a la escuela en la Competencia Anual de Atletismo ABSH. Agradecemos a Ms. Carol y Ms. Yeri por su arduo trabajo con nuestros jóvenes atletas, y a nuestros alumnos por representar tan bien a la escuela.
  
  
  FELICITACIONES POR ENSEÑANZA CREATIVA – Felicitamos especialmente a Ms. Marisela y a Ms. Norma por la integración de la tecnología en sus clases de español. Sus alumnos están trabajando en la digitalización e ilustración de historias que ellos han escrito durante la clase utilizando Storybird.com. El producto final será compartido con los alumnos de Pre-escolar y con los padres durante las Conferencias guiadas por los Alumnos.

  FERIA DE CIENCIAS --  Nuestros alumnos de pre-escolar y primaria comenzarán a trabajar en sus proyectos de la Feria de Ciencias. Los alumnos de K-2 grado trabajarán en proyectos de grupo con sus maestros, los alumnos de 3-5 grado completarán el folder de acuerdo a lo asignado por el maestro, y trabajaran en el proyecto desde la casa.
