PAVING OF THE ROAD TO THE SCHOOL – The paving of the road is moving along
faster than any of us anticipated. We
suggest that everyone try to get here earlier because we only have one land for
entering and departing. We have arranged
the guards with radios to manage that challenge. We will all have to be patient and
good-humored as we work through the tight spots. Thanks for your cooperation.
ACCREDITATION PROCESS – SURVEYS FOR PARENTS- Below you
will find the link that will take you to the corresponding survey that you need
to complete. This is the last week
that the surveys will be available for parents! Please take some time from your busy schedule
to complete the survey that will provide valuable information towards the
accreditation process and therefore, school improvement.
A Spanish version of the survey for parents is available in this
message; however the survey needs to be completed in English. The Spanish
version will help parents complete the English version as it is an exact copy
of the survey.

OF THE THIRD QUARTER REPORT CARDS AND CONFERENCES–Notices
for the third quarter conferences (on a need basis) will be sent home today.
Report Cards will be sent home on Thursday, March 19. However, if you would
like a conference, and one has not been called for by a teacher, please contact
the school to set an appointment for the afternoon of Friday, March 20.
FRIDAY,
MARCH 20 – There will NO SCHOOL for students
on Friday, March 20. Following our school calendar, the morning will be devoted
to Professional Development for Teachers, and the afternoon will be used for
Parent-Teacher conferences.
EARLY
CHILDHOOD AND ELEMENTARY READ-A-THON –This is week
three of our Read-a-thon! Grades Kindergarten through five is participating in
this month long competition. Students should be completing the reading logs
that were distributed last week! The winner from each class will go out to
lunch as a special treat from our DPTO!
BRICKS4KIDZ - After conducting exit surveys that reveal what a success this
activity was, and given its educational value, the school will be offering a Second
Module of Bricks4kidz. The session will be held on Fridays (in April 10, 17
and 24; in May 8,15 and 22) from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. and will be open for
students in from kindergarten to grade
five. Registration will be available on the afternoons of Friday, March 20
and Friday, March 27. Hurry and save your space!
MIDDLE AND HIG SCHOOL STUDENT NEWS:

SPOTLIGHT:
We are very proud to share with the Discovery School community that our student
Juan Sebastian Duron, from 11th grade, has taken part of the movie “Un Loco Verano Catracho”. This is the second
time that Juan Sebastian acts in a movie, having participated in its
prequel “Una Loca Navidad Catracha”. The premier is scheduled for this coming
Thursday. We invite our Discovery School community to support Juan Sebastian

**MODEL
UNITED NATIONS– a group of secondary students will represent the
school in the ABSH Model UN in San Pedro Sula. The team has been coached by Ms.
Ashley Pileika during the school year and will travel on March 25 for the
competition.
**MATH
OLYMPICS
– another group of students has been practicing all year long to represent the
school in the ABSH Math Olympics in La Ceiba. The teams have been coached by Mr. Cesar
Martinez and Ms. Ashley Lardizabal. The competition will take place on April
10.

Scholastic News - Scholastic Book Club leaflets were given out
last week. This is an optional activity offered by the school, because we know
you want to motivate your child to read at home. With your purchase, our
library will accumulate points to redeem more books for the benefit of your
children in our school. The due date to purchase the books online is March 20. The books will arrive to the
school in one single delivery, and we will distribute them to the students
according to their orders, approximately three weeks after the purchase due
date.

PAVIMENTACION DE LA CALLE HACIA LA
ESCUELA – La pavimentación de la calle
está haciéndose mas rápido de lo que cualquiera anticipó. Les sugerimos a todos
que traten de venir mas temprano ya que solo contamos con un lado de la calle
para entrar y salir. Hemos coordinado que los guardias comunicándose entre
ellos con radio dirijan el trafico. Todos debemos ser pacientes y tener una
buena actitud mientras atravesamos por esta situación. Agradecemos su cooperación.
PROCESO DE ACREDITACION – ENCUESTAS
PARA PADRES – Abajo encontrarán
el enlace que les llevará a la encuesta correspondiente para que sea llenada. Esta es la ultima semana que las
encuestas estarán disponibles para los padres! Favor tome unos minutos
de su ocupada agenda y llene la encuesta que proporcionará información valiosa
para el proceso de acreditación y por lo tanto, el mejoramiento de la escuela.
Una versión en español de la encuesta para padres está disponible en este
mensaje; sin embargo la encuesta necesita ser llenada en ingles. La versión en
español ayudará a los padres a completar la versión en inglés ya que es una
copia exacta de la encuesta. La encuesta tiene que ser completada online en la
versión en inglés.

FIN DEL TERCER TRIMESTRE Y
CONFERENCIAS – Las notificaciones para las conferencias del
tercer trimestre se enviarán el día de hoy (según sea necesario). Las
calificaciones se enviarán a casa el día jueves 19 de marzo. Sin embargo, si
desea tener una conferencia, y no le fue solicitado por el maestro, favor llame
a la escuela para concertar una cita en la tarde del día viernes 20 de marzo.
VIERNES 20 DE MARZO - NO
HABRÁN CLASES para los alumnos el día viernes 20 de marzo. Siguiendo
nuestro calendario, durante la mañana los maestros se dedicarán a Desarrollo
Profesional, y en la tarde tendremos las conferencias de Padres-Maestros.
MARATON DE LECTURA DE PRE-ESCOLAR Y
PRIMARIA – Esta es la tercera
semana de nuestro maratón de lectura! Los alumnos de Kínder hasta 5to grado
están participando en esta competencia que dura todo el mes. Los alumnos deben
completar el registro de lectura que se les entregó la semana pasada! El ganador de cada clase tendrá un almuerzo
especial que será proporcionado por el DPTO!
BRICKS4KIDZ – Después de realizar encuestas de salida que
revelaron el éxito que esta actividad tuvo, y considerando su valor educativo, la
escuela estará ofreciendo un segundo modulo de Bricks4Kidz.La sesión se
llevará a cabo los días viernes (el 10, 17, y 24 de abril; el 8, 15 y 22 de mayo) de
las 3:15 a las 4:15 p.m. y estará abierto para alumnos de kínder hasta quinto grado. Las inscripciones se realizarán en las
tardes de los viernes 20 y 27 de marzo. Apresúrese y guarde su lugar!

DESTACADO: Estamos orgullosos de
compartir con la comunidad de la Escuela Discovery que nuestro alumno Juan Sebastián

**MODELO
DE NACIONES UNIDAS- un grupo de
alumnos de secundaria representarán a la escuela en el Modelo de Naciones
Unidas ABSH en San Pedro Sula. El equipo está siendo dirigido por Ms. Ashley
Pileika durante el año escolar y viajarán este 25 de marzo a la competencia.
**OLIMPIADAS
DE MATEMÁTICAS- otro grupo de
alumnos han estado practicando todo el año para representar a la escuela en las
Olimpiadas de Matemáticas ABSH en La Ceiba. Los equipos han sido entrenados por
Mr. Cesar Martinez y Ms. Ashley Lardizabal. La competencia se realizará el 10
de abril.

Noticias de Scholastic – Los panfletos del Club de Libros Scholastic se
entregaron la semana pasada. Esta es una actividad opcional ofrecida por la
escuela, ya que sabemos que usted desea motivar a sus hijos a leer en casa. Con
su compra, nuestra biblioteca acumulará puntos para redimir por más libros para
el beneficio de sus hijos en nuestra escuela. La fecha límite para la compra de
libros es el 20 de marzo. Los libros
llegan a la escuela en un solo paquete, y los distribuiremos a los alumnos de
acuerdo a sus órdenes, aproximadamente tres semanas después de la fecha límite
de compra.
