PAVING OF THE ROAD TO THE SCHOOL – I’m sure that you are all
pleased to see that the paving project has begun. Assuming all goes well, we are looking at
about 8 weeks of inconvenience. I have
spoken to the Project Engineer who has described the process to me. Here are a few important points:
1) They will keep one lane
open for traffic and will provide traffic controllers to assist access and
departure.
2) They are working on surface
preparation right now, and definition of limits and final design. I asked to be updated weekly on plans and
explained that any special situations could be communicated to our community
through the Monday memos. I also offered
to photocopy messages for our neighbors.
3) There will be a drainage
ditch constructed between the hill (Cerro)and the road.
4) The sidewalk will be built
on the side of the road towards the school, and will be roughly 1.2 m.
wide.
I will keep you informed of other developments as the

ACCREDITATION PROCESS – SURVEYSFOR PARENTS- Below you will find the link that will take you to the corresponding
survey that you need to complete. Please take some time from your busy schedule
to complete the survey that will provide valuable information towards the
accreditation process and therefore, school improvement.
A Spanish

survey needs to be completed in English. The Spanish version will help parents

STUDENT
SURVEYS – This week our students will be completing
the AdvancEd surveys required for the accreditation process in school. A
special schedule has been made so that each grade will go to the computer lab
with a teacher so students can take the survey.
YEARBOOK
PICTURES THIS WEEK – Please take note that we will
be taking individual, class and all school yearbook pictures this week. We will take the ALL SCHOOL PICTURE on
Thursday, March 12 at 8:00 a.m. All students, teachers and staff should wear
a Discovery School polo or t-shirt.

OF THE THIRD QUARTER AND CONFERENCES– Please take
note that this Thursday, March 12 marks the end of the third quarter. Teachers
will be calling for Parent-Teacher conferences on Monday, March 16. These
conferences are on an as-needed basis. However, if you would like a conference,
and one has not been called for by a teacher, please contact the school to set
an appointment for the afternoon of Friday, March 20.
EARLY
CHILDHOOD AND ELEMENTARY READ-A-THON –This is week
two of our Read-a-thon! Grades Kindergarten through Grade 5 are participating
in this month long competition. Students should be completing the reading logs
that were distributed last week! The winner from each class will go out to
lunch as a special treat from our DPTO!

Scholastic News - Scholastic Book Club leaflets were given out last week. This is
an optional activity offered by the school, because we know you want to
motivate your child to read at home. With your purchase, our library will
accumulate points to redeem more books for the benefit of your children in our
school. The due date to purchase the books online is March 20. The books will arrive to the school in one single
delivery, and we will distribute them to the students according to their
orders, approximately three weeks after the purchase due date.
PAVIMENTACION DE LA CALLE A LA ESCUELA – Estoy seguro
que todos están contentos de ver que el proyecto de pavimentación de la calle
ya comenzó. Asumiendo que todo salga bien, estamos considerando unas 8 semanas
de inconveniencias. He hablado con el ingeniero del proyecto quien me ha
explicado el proceso. Aquí les detallo algunos puntos importantes:
- Mantendrán un carril abierto para el tráfico y pondrán controladores de tráfico para ayudar al acceso y salida.
- Están trabajando en la preparación de la superficie en este momento, así como en la definición de los límites y diseño final. Les solicité que nos mantuvieran al tanto en los planes semanales y les expliqué que en caso de cualquier situación especial mantenemos a nuestra comunidad informados a través de los memos de los lunes. También les ofrecí fotocopiar mensajes para nuestros vecinos.
- Construirán una zanja de drenaje entre el cerro y la calle.
- La acera será construida al lado de la calle del lado de la escuela, la que aproximadamente será de 1.2m de ancho.
Les mantendré informados de otros avances según el
proyecto vaya tomando forma. Agradezco su cooperación y paciencia. (Dr. K)
PROCESO DE ACREDITACION – ENCUESTAS
PARA PADRES – Abajo encontrarán
el enlace que les llevará a la encuesta correspondiente para que sea llenada.
Favor tome unos minutos de su ocupada agenda y llene la encuesta que
proporcionará información valiosa para el proceso de acreditación y por lo
tanto, el mejoramiento de la escuela.
Una versión en español de la encuesta para padres está disponible en este
mensaje; sin embargo la encuesta necesita ser llenada en ingles. La versión en
español ayudará a los padres a completar la versión en inglés ya que es una
copia exacta de la encuesta. La encuesta tiene que ser completada online en la
versión en inglés.

ENCUESTAS DE ALUMNOS – Esta semana nuestros alumnos estarán llenando las
encuestas de AdvancED que son requeridas para el proceso de acreditación de la
escuela. Hemos hecho un horario especial para que cada grado vaya al
laboratorio de computación junto a un maestro y los alumnos puedan llenar la
encuesta.
FOTOS PARA EL ANUARIO ESTA SEMANA – Favor tome nota que estaremos tomando fotos
individuales, por grado y de toda la escuela para el anuario esta semana. Tomaremos la FOTO DE TODA LA ESCUELA el día
jueves 12 de marzo, a las 8:00 a.m. Todos los alumnos, maestros y personal
debe usar una camisa polo o camiseta de Discovery School.
FIN DEL TERCER TRIMESTRE Y
CONFERENCIAS – Favor tome nota que el final del tercer trimestre
es este jueves 12 de marzo. Los maestros llamarán para tener conferencias de
Padre-Maestro el lunes 16 de marzo. Estas conferencias se llevarán a cabo
conferencias según sea necesario. Sin embargo, si desea tener una conferencia,
y no le fue solicitado por el maestro, favor llame a la escuela para concertar
una cita en la tarde del día viernes 20 de marzo.
MARATON DE LECTURA DE PRE-ESCOLAR Y
PRIMARIA – Esta es la segunda
semana de nuestro maratón de lectura! Los alumnos de Kínder hasta 5to grado están
participando en esta competencia que dura todo el mes. Los alumnos deben
completar el registro de lectura que se les entregó la semana pasada! El ganador de cada clase tendrá un almuerzo
especial que será proporcionado por el DPTO!

Noticias de Scholastic – Los panfletos del Club de Libros Scholastic se
entregaron la semana pasada. Esta es una actividad opcional ofrecida por la
escuela, ya que sabemos que usted desea motivar a sus hijos a leer en casa. Con
su compra, nuestra biblioteca acumulará puntos para redimir por más libros para
el beneficio de sus hijos en nuestra escuela. La fecha límite para la compra de
libros es el 20 de marzo. Los libros
llegan a la escuela en un solo paquete, y los distribuiremos a los alumnos de
acuerdo a sus órdenes, aproximadamente tres semanas después de la fecha límite
de compra.
