Welcome back! We
hope you all had a restful and relaxing break, and are ready for the last stretch
(only 38 school days left!) of this school year!
UPDATE ON PAVING – I’m sure that many of you hoped to come back to a
fully paved road after Semana Santa.
However, the short explanation is that we needed a minimum of 14 days
for the paved lane and the entrances to the school to dry sufficiently to
sustain our traffic. Paving the second
lane would have blocked off the school and our neighbors from entering our
respective areas. They are now working
on the second lane. Future stages will
include a sidewalk and drainage. We are
moving ahead!
INVITATION TO CURRENT PRE-SCHOOL PARENTS AND OTHER
INTERESTED PARTIES—
On Thursday,
April 16, parents are invited to the pre-school area at 08:00 a.m. for a
meeting to discuss the reorganization of the Early Childhood Program,
particularly the Maternal and Pre-Kinder grades (although changes to Kinder and
Grade 1 will also be discussed). If you
know anyone who might be interested in registering a child in these areas, even
if they are not currently part of our school community, please invite them to
join us. We will meet at the champa/shelter in front of the 1st
grade, and I will supply the coffee, juice and cookies. I will also provide a clear vision for the Early
Childhood Program that focuses on the integral development of your children. Be
sure to pick up a copy of the April “CROMOS” magazine, or the April “ESTILO” to
see our announcement about these changes.
A NOTE ON HOMEWORK – The
George Lucas Foundation sponsors an educational journal (I have consulted for
GLF in the past) entitled Edutopia. It is concerned with assisting educator
and parents make the conceptual transition to 21st century attitudes
about educational practice. At the

. I think teachers, students and parents

MODEL UNITED NATIONS– Days
before our Easter break, Ms. Gloria Palacios and Ms. Ashley Pileka traveled
with a group of secondary students to San Pedro Sula to participate in the ABSH
Model UN. Our students once again made a terrific impression on the judges, and
our school earned three best delegate awards (Jose Antonio Zuniga, Victoria
Glynn and Katerina Fenn), and two Verbal Commendations (Juan Diego Caballero
and Fernando Herrera) among other awards. Congratulations to our phenomenal
students, and to Ms. Ashley Pileka for their preparation.
MATH OLYMPICS – Another
group of students has been practicing all year long to represent the school in
the ABSH Math Olympics in La Ceiba. The teams have been coached by Mr. Cesar
Martinez and Ms. Ashley Lardizabal. The competition will take place on April
10.
GO GREEN MONTH - April is the month in which we will
celebrate Earth Day, and Discovery School students will participate in a
variety of activities that will educate them about all the things the Earth
does for us and how we can help preserve it.
We will kick off the month’s celebrations with an assembly on Friday,
April 10th from 10:25 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.
We encourage all students and teachers to wear green each Friday
in the month of April!

**Seniors News - We are
proud to share with you the admission of Andrea
Martinez to her first choice university, University of British Columbia (UBC), ranked as one of the best
ones in the Canadian territory. Andrea was also recently admitted to the University of Tecnológico de Monterrey
in Mexico. Congratulations, Andrea!
**InformativeTalk to Parents - Mrs. Anna Lucía Acosta, specialist on family counseling, will be giving a presentation to
the parents on the topic “Educating today
is different”. This event will take place on Tuesday, April 28, at 1:00 p.m. in our Library. You
are all invited to come and acquire some insight on this valuable education
topic. Refreshments will be served.
**Career Day
- We will be having a Career
Day here in school on April 17 from 8:30 a.m. to
10:30 a.m. We have invited several professionals from our Discovery School
community as well as from the outside, to come to share with our kids their
experience and thoughts about the career they chose to pursue. Grades 9th
through 12th are invited to attend. If
you wish to participate, you are very welcome to do so. We still have available
spaces for parent volunteers. Please

BRICKS4KIDZ - The second module for Bricks4kidz will begin this Friday, April 10. The sessions will be held on Fridays
(in April 10,17 and 24; in May 8,15 and 22) from 3:15 to 4:15 and will be open
for students in from kindergarten to
grade five. If you are interested, there are spaces open, and you can
register on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
¡Bienvenidos! ¡Esperamos que hayan disfrutado de un feriado relajado y
tranquilo, y estén listos para el último tramo (¡solo quedan 38 días de
clases!) para este año escolar!
ACTUALIZACION EN LA PAVIMENTACION – Estoy seguro que muchos de ustedes esperaban
regresar y ver una calle completamente pavimentada después de Semana Santa. Sin
embargo, la explicación corta es que necesitábamos un mínimo de 14 días para
que el carril pavimentado y las entradas de la escuela se sequen lo suficiente
para aguantar nuestro tráfico. La pavimentación del otro carril hubiese
bloqueado el paso a la escuela y a nuestros vecinos. Ahora están trabajando en
el segundo carril. Futuros pasos incluirán la acera y el drenaje. Vamos avanzando!
INVITACION A LOS PADRES DE
PRE-ESCOLAR Y OTROS INTERESADOS – El día jueves 16 de abril, los padres del área de pre-escolar están invitados
a las 8:00 a.m. a una reunión para discutir la reorganización del Programa de
Pre-escolar, particularmente de los grados de Maternal y Pre-Kínder (también se
hablará de los cambios para Kínder y 1er grado). Si conoce a alguien
que pueda estar interesado en matricular
a un niño en estas áreas, aunque aún no sean parte de nuestra comunidad

enfrente de 1er grado, y les brindaremos café, jugo y galletas. También les
brindaré una visión clara del Programa de Pre-escolar que se enfoca en el

UNA NOTA EN TAREAS – La Fundación de George Lucas patrocina un
diario educativo (en el pasado yo he consultado el GLF) llamado Edutopia. Se dedica a ayudar al educador
y a los padres a hacer una transición conceptual a las nuevas pautas del siglo
21 acerca de la práctica educativa. En la siguiente página web, podrá encontrar

MODELO DE NACIONES UNIDAS – Unos días antes del feriado, Ms. Gloria Palacios y
Ms. Ashley Pileika viajaron con un grupo de alumnos de secundaria a San Pedro
Sula para participar en el Modelo de Naciones Unidas ABSH. Una vez más nuestros
alumnos dejaron una excelente impresión en los jueces, y nuestra escuela ganó
tres premios de mejor delegación (José Antonio Zuniga, Victoria Glynn y
Katerina Fenn), y dos Felicitaciones Verbales (Juan Diego Caballero y Fernando
Herrera) entre otros premios. Felicidades a nuestros alumnos fenomenales, y a
Ms. Ashley Pileika por su preparación.
OLIMPIADAS DE MATEMÁTICAS - Otro grupo
de alumnos han estado practicando todo el año para representar a la escuela en
las Olimpiadas de Matemáticas ABSH en La Ceiba. Los equipos han sido entrenados
por Mr. César Martínez y Ms. Ashley Lardizabal. La competencia se realizará el
10 de abril.
MES DEL MEDIO AMBIENTE
– Abril es el mes en el que
celebramos el Día de la Tierra, y los alumnos de la Escuela Discovery
participarán en una variedad de actividades que les enseñará acerca de de todas
las cosas que la Tierra hace por nosotros y cómo podemos ayudar a preservarla. Iniciaremos
las celebraciones del mes con una asamblea el viernes 10 de abril desde las
10:25 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Animamos a todos los alumnos y maestros a vestirse de
verde cada viernes en el mes de abril!

de los Seniors – Nos enorgullece
compartir con ustedes la admisión de Andrea

mejores en el territorio canadiense. Andrea también fue recientemente admitida
en la Universidad del Tecnológico de
Monterrey en México. Felicitaciones Andrea!
**Charla
informativa para padres – Mrs. Anna Lucía Acosta, especialista en consejería familiar, estará
dando una presentación a los padres en el tema “Educar hoy en día es diferente”. Este evento se realizará el jueves
28 de abril, a la 1:00 p.m. en nuestra biblioteca. Todos están invitados a venir
y conocer algunos puntos de vista en este importante tema de educación. Se
servirán bocadillos.
**Feria
Vocacional – Estaremos realizando
una Feria Vocacional en la escuela,
el día 17 de abril desde las 8:30 a.m. a las 10:30 a.m. Hemos invitado a varios
profesionales de la comunidad de la Escuela Discovery así como de afuera, para
que vengan y compartan con nuestros alumnos sus experiencias e ideas acerca de
la carrera profesional que eligieron seguir. Los alumnos de 9no a 12vo
están invitados a asistir. Si desea participar, es bienvenido a hacerlo. Todavía
tenemos espacios para voluntarios. Favor comuníquese con Mrs. Marilis Zambrana

BRICKS4KIDZ – El segundo modulo de Bricks4Kidz comenzará este viernes 10 de abril. Las
sesiones se realizarán los viernes (el10, 17 y 24 de abril; el 8, 15 y 22 de
mayo) de las 3:15 a las 4:15 p.m. y estará abierto para alumnos de kínder hasta quinto grado. Las
inscripciones se realizarán en las tardes de los viernes 20 y 27 de marzo. Si
está interesado, hay espacios disponibles, puede registrarse el viernes a las
2:30 p.m.
