UPDATE ON PAVING – I anticipate that by the middle of
the week, we will be able to use both lanes of the new road. However, I urge you to exercise caution, as
the workmen will continue to work on the drainage and sidewalks.
HEAT WAVE – We all know this is the hot season in
Honduras, but it has been unprecedentedly hot the last couple of days, and the
weather forecast predicts higher temperatures for the coming week. Teachers
need to have conversations with their students regarding the prevention of
problems associated with extreme hot weather. Here are some talking points:
1. Wear light colored, loose
fitting, lightweight clothes (cotton preferably).
2. Assigned homework should
be meaningful, engaging and only what is strictly necessary.
3. Students should be
encouraged to bring water bottles, caps/hats to wear outside and to use sun
block every day, especially on P. E. days.
4. Provide students with the
choice to stay indoors in recess – playing board games, reading, watching
videos. If they do, they need to be adequately supervised at all times.
5. Stay hydrated – drink lots
of water even if you don’t feel thirsty.
CONGRATULATIONS SPANISH TEACHERS! – The assemblies that took place last week to commemorate the Spanish
Language Day were very entertaining, and the activities that were held in class
were very much enjoyed by our students. Thank you for your hard work!
MIDTERM PROGRESS REPORTS –
Midterm Progress Reports for the fourth quarter will be sent home on Thursday,
April 30.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WEDNESDAY – This Wednesday, April 29 students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.
and we will follow AM Schedule.
BELATED EARTH DAY CELEBRATION - On Thursday, April 30th, the 10th grade environmental science
students will host Earth Day activities that will help our students appreciate
the many ways we use Earth's resources and how we should protect these by
keeping our environmental clean.
Kindergarten- 5th grade classes will meet in the cafeteria at 1:20 p.m.
to begin the celebration. Activities
will take place for the rest of the afternoon.
As activities will be outdoors, students should wear tennis shoes,
clothing that can get dirty, as well as, sun block or a hat. Students are also reminded to wear green,
to help us remember to "GO GREEN”.
FROM THE COUNSELOR’S OFFICE:
**INFORMATIVE TALK FOR
PARENTS - Mrs. Anna Lucía Acosta, specialist on
family counseling, will be giving a presentation to the parents on the topic “Educating today is different”. This
event will take place on Tuesday, April 28,
at 1:00 p.m. in our Library. You are all invited to come and acquire some
insight on this valuable education topic. Refreshments will be served.
MAP SPRING TESTING SESSION – The second MAP testing session of the year is scheduled to begin on
May 4. MAP reports will be handed out with report cards at the end of the
school year.
SPRING GENERAL ASSEMBLY – We
want to give all our school community a heads up and ask you to mark your
calendars for Saturday, May 16 at 9:00
a.m. We need to reach a quorum for this General Assembly and be able to
vote on budget, calendar and school improvements. Supervision, entertainment
and snacks will be offered for children in the Early Childhood Area. The DPTO is offering a Pizza Party to
the Grade that has the most parents attending the General Assembly!!!!!
UNIQUE
WORKSHOP WITH QVLN & OVEOUS - Our
choir, violin, and jazz students will attend a workshop with QVLN & OVEOUS, artists in
the US Department State of Educational and Cultural Affairs Bureau’s American
Music Abroad Program. The workshop will teach them the fundamentals of poetry
and songwriting, focusing on the diverse roots of American music. This workshop
is sponsored by the US Embassy, and will take place at the Teatro Manuel
Bonilla on Thursday, April, 30.
The
school community is invited to the concert that evening – Thursday, April 30 at
6:30 p.m. at the Teatro Manuel Bonilla. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. (Free
entrance).
COWBOY
CARNIVAL AND
PICNIC DINNER & MOVIE UNDER THE STARS- The DPTO is working very hard to
put together a wonderful fun filled evening for our students and parents. This
will take place on Friday, May 8 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Cowboy theme games
and great food will be available for everyone, and there will be a great family
movie – The Book Of Life – projected for everyone at 6:00 p.m. Dress up in
cowboy gear, bring a blanket and come have a delightful family experience.
END OF THE YEAR RECUP EXAMS FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL
- Please take note of the following information:

There will be
one (1) “recuperation week” at the end of the school year (June 15 – 19).
·
Passing grade
is 70%.
·
“Retrasada”
class – only 1 subject is allowed to be taken the following school year.
·
If the student
fails 2 or more subjects at the end of his/her “recuperation” week, he/she will
need to repeat the school year.

Monday, April 27 (3:15) – Pre-administration
session to fill out the first part of the AP answer sheets. This session is

SCHOOL STUDENTS - The Discovery School Staff and
Administration will celebrate with all Honor Roll students on Friday, May 8 @
7:00 with an Honors Breakfast. Invitations will be sent home soon.
SCHOOL
AWARDS CEREMONY - The Discovery School Staff and
Administration will recognize all students that have represented the school and
have had an outstanding participating in the different events throughout the
school year. This ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 21.
SUMMER
CAMP – Discovery
Zone 6 is back! Get an early registration! The Summer Camp will run from
June 8-26, from 8:00 to 11: 50 a.m.

ACTUALIZACION SOBRE LA PAVIMENTACION
– Anticipo que a mediados de la semana, ya podremos utilizar ambos carriles de
la calle. Sin embargo, les rogamos que sean precavidos, ya que los trabajadores
continuaran presentes mientras construyen el desagüe y la acera.
OLA DE CALOR – Todos sabemos que
esta es la temporada de calor en Honduras, pero el calor extremo de los últimos días no tiene precedente, y los
pronósticos predicen aun mayores temperaturas para la próxima semana. Los
maestros deben tener charlas con sus alumnos acerca de la prevención de los
problemas asociados con el calor extremo. Aquí les mencionamos algunos puntos
importantes:
1. Vestir
colores suaves, ropa floja y ligera (preferiblemente algodón).
2. Las tareas
asignadas deben ser significativas, atractivas y solamente lo que es estrictamente
necesario.
3. Los
alumnos deben ser orientados a traer sus botellas de agua, gorras/sombreros
para usar afuera y a utilizar bloqueador solar todos los días, especialmente en
las clases de P.E.
4. Proporcionar
a los alumnos con la opción de permanecer adentro durante el recreo – jugando juegos
de mesa, leyendo, viendo videos. Si lo hacen, necesitan estar supervisados en
todo momento.
5. Manténganse
hidratados – tomar mucha agua aun cuando no se sienta sediento.
FELICITACIONES A LOS MAESTROS DE
ESPAÑOL! – Las asambleas que se
realizaron la semana pasada para conmemorar el Día del Idioma Español
estuvieron muy entretenidas, y los alumnos disfrutaron mucho las actividades
que se llevaron a cabo en las aulas. Agradecemos su arduo trabajo!
REPORTES DE PROGRESO DE MEDIO
PERIODO – Los Reportes de
Progreso de Medio Periodo para el cuarto trimestre se enviarán a casa el día jueves
30 de abril.
MIERCOLES DE DESARROLLO PROFESIONAL –
Este miércoles 29 de abril, los
alumnos saldrán temprano, a las 11:45 a.m. y seguiremos el horario AM.
CELEBRACION DE CUMPLEAÑOS ATRASADO –
El jueves 30 de abril, los
alumnos de Ciencias Ambientales de 10mo grado organizarán
actividades del Día de la Tierra que ayudarán a nuestros alumnos a apreciar las
diferentes maneras que usamos los recursos naturales y como debemos protegerlos
por medio de mantener nuestro medio ambiente limpio. Los alumnos de Kínder a
5to grado, se reunirán en la cafetería a la 1:20 p.m. para comenzar la celebración.
Las actividades se realizarán por el resto de la tarde. Como las actividades
serán afuera, los alumnos deben usar zapatos deportivos, ropa que se pueda
ensuciar, así como bloqueador solar y/o una gorra. Se les recuerda también a
los alumnos a vestir de verde, ayúdenos a recordar “GO GREEN”.
DE LA OFICINA DE CONSEJERIA:
**Charla
informativa para padres – Mrs. Anna Lucía Acosta, especialista en consejería familiar, estará
dando una presentación a los padres en el tema “Educar hoy en día es diferente”. Este evento se realizará el jueves
28 de abril, a la 1:00 p.m. en nuestra biblioteca. Todos están invitados a venir
y conocer algunos puntos de vista en este importante tema de educación. Se
servirán bocadillos.
SESION DE EXAMENES MAP DE PRIMAVERA –
La segunda sesión de exámenes MAP
del año está programada para iniciar el 4 de mayo. Los reportes de MAP se
entregarán junto con las calificaciones al final del año escolar.
ASAMBLEA GENERAL DE PRIMAVERA - Queremos
recordar a toda nuestra comunidad escolar desde ahora y pedirles que marquen
sus calendarios para el sábado 16 de
mayo, a las 9:00 a.m. Necesitamos alcanzar el quórum para esta Asamblea
General y que podamos votar en el presupuesto, calendario y mejoras en la
escuela. Se ofrecerá supervisión, entretenimiento y bocadillos para los niños
en el área de pre-escolar. El DPTO
estará ofreciendo una fiesta de pizza para el grado al que asistan mas padres
de familia en la Asamblea General.
TALLER UNICO CON QVLN & OVEOUS –
Nuestros alumnos del coro, violín
y jazz asistirán a un taller con los artistas de QVLN & OVEOUS del Programa en el Extranjero de Música
Americana de la Oficina de Asuntos Educativos y Culturales del Departamento de
Estado de EEUU. El taller les enseñará las bases de poesía y composición, enfocándose
en las diversas raices de la música americana. Este taller es patrocinado por
la Embajada Americana, y se llevará a cabo en el Teatro Manuel Bonilla el
jueves 30 de abril. Se invita a la comunidad escolar al concierto esa misma
tarde – jueves 30 de abril, a las 6:30 p.m. en el Teatro Manuel Bonilla. Las
puertas se abrirán a las 5:30 p.m. (entrada gratis).
CARNAVAL VAQUERO Y CENA PICNIC &
CINE BAJO LAS ESTRELLAS – El DPTO
está trabajando duramente para organizar una noche maravillosa llena de diversión
para nuestros alumnos y padres. Esta se llevará a cabo el viernes 8 de mayo de
4:00 p.m. a 8:00 p.m. Juegos con tema vaquero y excelente comida estarán
disponibles para todos, y habrá una excelente película familiar – El Libro de
la Vida – se proyectará para todos a las 6:00 p.m. Vista de ropa vaquera,
traiga una manta y acompáñenos a una placentera experiencia en familia.
IDOLO DE DISCOVERY – Nuestro concurso anual de talento está a la vuelta
de la esquina! Los alumnos pueden audicionar sus canciones, bailes u otros
talentos el jueves 7 y viernes 8 de mayo. El show de talentos se realizará el miércoles
20 de mayo, a las 10:15 a.m.
EXAMENES DE RECUPERACION DE FIN DE AÑO PARA
SECUNDARIA – Favor tome nota que
la siguiente información:

Tendremos una
(1) “semana de recuperación” al final del año escolar (15 al 19 de junio).
·
La nota para
pasar es 70%.
·
Clase
“retrasada” – solamente es permitida tener 1 clase para el siguiente año
escolar.
·
Si el alumnos
falla 2 o más clases al final de su semana de “recuperación”, necesitará
repetir el año escolar.

CEREMONIA DE PREMIACIONES – El personal docente y administrativo de la Escuela

escolar. Esta ceremonia se llevará a cabo el jueves 21 de mayo.
