DISCOVERY SCHOOL MONDAY MEMO FOR PARENTS

THANK YOU -  The school wishes to thank all students, parents, teachers, office and support staff for their hard work before and during the External Review Team visit to our school. We should all feel proud of the great school we have! Now, it is time to focus on the work that lies ahead which will allow us to become an even better school.

UN DAY CELEBRATION – We have our annual UN DAY celebration this Friday, October 30. Our DPTO has been working very hard in preparing what promises to be a fun and exciting morning for our community. We will have a short cultural presentation for everyone in the gym at 8:30 a.m., and then the “Tour around the World” will begin at 9:00 a.m. Please remember this is an Early Dismissal Day (P.M. Schedule) and students will be dismissed at 11: 45 a.m.

PARENT – STUDENT – TEACHER CONFERENCES –Conferences for the first quarter are MANDATORY at Discovery School. If you still have not picked up your child’s report cards, please contact the school to pick them up this week. 

TODO TRANQUILO –The “Todo Tranquilo” training for “Calmadores” continues this week place from 12:20-12:45 in Ms. Cristiana’s room. If you have any questions please see Ms. Cristiana.

MIDDLE SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS – The deadline to reserve your child’s spot for the different middle school field trips is this Friday, October 30. We need to have at least 80% of parent confirmation from each grade level in order to be able to organize the field trips. We need at least 18 students for 6^th grade, 19 students for 7^th grade, and 8 students for 8^th grade.

LANGUAGE ARTS FESTIVAL –Our internal Spelling Bee/Ortografia competitions are on Friday, November 6.  Please ask your children to make sure they have the lists they need to prepare for these competitions.

ABSH ARTS AND MUSIC FESTIVAL – This past Friday and Saturday some of our students participated in the ABSH Arts and Music Festival, and they have done an outstanding job representing our school. We share with you the results:

BOOK CHARACTER DAY - In keeping with Discovery School tradition, students are invited to dress up as his/her favorite book character. Your child should pick a book that he/she has read or that has been read to him/her. It should also be a book that was written before it became a movie or TV show. Please remember: NO SCARY COSTUMES! The 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will set up a live interactive museum on Thursday, October 29 which will last from 8:50-9:40 a.m. This will allow the younger students to come and learn about new book characters. Parents are welcome to come and meet all of the exciting characters and learn about some new books.

SENIORS BAKESALE – The Senior class will have their traditional October bake sale on Thursday, October 29. Don’t forget to bring money and enjoy a treat!

CHRISTIMAS BAZAAR- LOOKING FOR VENDORS- Discovery’s Helping Hands Club, a community service club that benefits children of the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos orphanage will have a Christmas Bazaar.  Interested vendors send email, discovery_bazaar@gmail.com

DISCOVERY SPORTS

Track and Field

We will be participating for the ABSH in Track & Field ,that will be held in San Pedro Sula.

It has been organized by the EIS (Escuela Internacional Sampedrana).This

event will take place on October 28-October 31.This event is only for Middle School and

High School students/athletes .

Basketball - We are getting ready for the ABSH Basketball tournament. This will take place at the American School of Tegucigalpa, from November 11 to November 14.  

Important Points: If parents or relatives would like to accompany us for support, they are welcome.

FUNDACION ABRIGO – Once again, Discovery School supports Fundación Abrigo in their mission to lodge families from the rural areas who come to Hospital Escuela. We are asking our school families to send 1 gallon of floor disinfectant per family, and to send it in by Friday, October 30. What a wonderful way to show our gratitude for what we have – to share what we have with those in need!

GRACIAS – La escuela desea agradecer a todos los alumnos, padres, maestros, personal administrativo y de apoyo por su arduo trabajo antes y durante la visita del Equipo Externo de Revisión a nuestra escuela. Debemos sentirnos orgullosos de la maravillosa escuela que tenemos! Ahora es tiempo de enfocarnos en lo que sigue y que nos permitirá ser aun una mejor escuela.

 CELEBRACION DEL DÍA DE NACIONES UNIDAS–  Este viernes 30 de octubre tenemos nuestra celebración anual del Día de las Naciones Unidas. Nuestro DPTO ha estado trabajando arduamente  en lo que promete ser una mañana muy divertida y emocionante para nuestra comunidad.  Tendremos una corta presentación cultural para todos en el gimnasio a las 8:30 a.m., y luego el “Recorrido alrededor del Mundo” comenzará a las 9:00 a.m. Favor recuerde que este es un día de salida temprana (horario vespertino) y los alumnos saldrán a las 11:45 a.m.

CONFERENCIAS PADRES – ALUMNO - MAESTRO -  Las conferencias Alumno-Padre-Maestro del primer trimestre son OBLIGATORIAS en la Escuela Discovery. Si usted todavía no ha recogido las calificaciones de su(s) hijo(s), favor comuníquese a la escuela para recogerlas esta semana.

TODO TRANQUILO – El entrenamiento “Todo Tranquilo”  para “Calmadores” continua esta semana y se llevará  a cabo de 12:20 – 12:45 m. en el aula de Ms. Cristiana. Si usted tiene alguna pregunta favor comuníquese con Ms. Cristiana.

PASEOS ESCOLARES DE ESCUELA MEDIA – La fecha límite para reservar el espacio de su hijo(a) para los diferentes paseos escolares es este viernes 30 de octubre. Necesitamos tener por lo menos el 80% de los padres confirmados de cada grado para poder organizar los paseos. Necesitamos por lo menos 18 alumnos de 6^to grado, 19 alumnos de 7^mo grado, y 8 alumnos de 8^vo grado.

FESTIVAL DE LENGUAJE – Las competencias internas de Deletreo/Ortografía son este viernes 6 de noviembre. Favor consulte con sus hijos para asegurarse que tienen las listas que necesitan para prepararse para estas competencias.

FESTIVALES DE MUSICA Y ARTE ABSH – Este viernes y sábado pasado, algunos de nuestros alumnos participaron en los Festivales de Arte y Música ABSH, en los cuales hicieron un sobresaliente trabajo representando nuestra escuela. A continuación les compartimos los resultados:

DÍA DE PERSONAJE DE LIBRO – Manteniendo una tradición de la Escuela Discovery, invitamos a los alumnos a disfrazarse de su personaje de libro favorito. Su hijo(a) debe escoger un libro que ha leído o que le han leído. Debe ser un libro que fue escrito antes de que hicieran una película o serie de TV. Favor recuerde: NADA DE DISFRACES DE ESPANTO! Los alumnos de 3ero, 4to, y 5to grado organizarán un museo interactivo el jueves 29 de octubre que durará de 8:50-9:40 a.m. Esta actividad permitirá a los alumnos más jóvenes aprender de nuevos personajes de libros. Los padres son bienvenidos a acompañarnos y conocer a los excitantes personajes y aprender sobre nuevos libros.

VENTA DE PASTELES DE LOS SENIORS – La clase de los Seniors tendrán su tradicional venta de pasteles de octubre, el día 29 de octubre. No olvide apoyar a los alumnos y disfrutar de un bocadillo!

BAZAR DE NAVIDAD – EN BUSCA DE VENDEDORES – El Club de Manos Amigas de Discovery, un club de servicio comunitario que beneficia al orfanato Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos estará realizando un Bazar Navideño. Los vendedores interesados deben enviar un correo electrónico a Discovery_bazaar@outlook.com .

DEPORTES DISCOVERY

Atletismo

Estaremos participando en la competencia de Atletismo ABSH que se realizará en San Pedro Sula. Ha sido organizada por la EIS (Escuela Internacional Sampedrana). Este evento se realizará del 28 de octubre al 31 de octubre. Este evento es solamente para los alumnos/atletas de escuela media y secundaria.

Basquetbol – Estamos preparándonos para el torneo de basquetbol ABSH. Este se realizará en la Escuela Americana de Tegucigalpa, del 11 al 14 de noviembre.

Puntos importantes: Si los padres o parientes desean acompañarnos para darnos apoyo, son bienvenidos.

FUNDACION ABRIGO – Una vez más, la Escuela Discovery está apoyando a la Fundación Abrigo en su misión de dar habitación a las familias de las áreas rurales que van al Hospital Escuela. Estamos solicitando a las familias de la escuela que envíen 1 galón de desinfectante de piso por familia, para antes del viernes 30 de octubre. Que maravillosa manera de mostrar nuestra gratitud por lo que tenemos—compartiendo con aquellos que tienen necesidad!
