FINALLY, WE ARE WHOLE AGAIN AT DISCOVERY! At the start of the school year, teachers are preparing their classrooms and themselves professionally to be ready for all of the parents and students. We hope that the start to this year for you and your family has been as positive as it has been for the staff. Without all of the love and students, the empty buildings would just be that….empty. Thank you for making us WHOLE AGAIN and we wish you best with the new school year!
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES (ASA) - Our After School Activities for the First Semester will officially begin on Monday, August 20, and will end on December 14. The sign up sheet will be sent home today, and must be returned by Wednesday, August 15.
However, because the Choir and Jazz Band will participate in our 25th Anniversary Program, Choir and Jazz Band begin this week! Students who are interested in joining either of these musical groups can talk to Ms. Pamela and Ms. Norma.
- Choir rehearsals will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays,
- Jazz Band practice will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
**Please take note that transportation for the After School Activities (ASA) will not begin until Monday, August 20.
FIELD TRIP PERMISSION FORMS - Our school year field trip permission forms will also be sent today, and will also need to be signed and returned by Wednesday, August 15. Parents will be notified in time of any field trips that the students will be taking, and can opt out at any time.

Al comienzo del año escolar, los maestros (as) están preparando sus aulas y se esta preparando profesionalmente para estar listos para todos los padres de familia y estudiantes. Esperamos que el comienzo de este año para usted y su familia haya sido tan positivo como lo ha sido para el personal. Sin el amor de los estudiantes, los edificios serían edificios vacíos. ¡Gracias por hacernos COMPLETOS OTRA VEZ y les deseamos lo mejor en este nuevo año escolar!
ACTIVIDADES DESPUÉS DE LA ESCUELA (ASA) - Nuestras actividades después de la escuela para el Primer Semestre comenzarán oficialmente el lunes 20 de agosto y finalizarán el 14 de diciembre. La hoja de inscripción se enviará a casa hoy y debe devolverse antes del miércoles 15 de agosto.
Sin embargo, debido a que el Coro y la Banda de Jazz participarán en nuestro Programa del 25º Aniversario, el Coro y la Banda de Jazz comenzarán esta semana. Los estudiantes que estén interesados en unirse a cualquiera de estos grupos musicales pueden hablar con la Ms. Pamela y Ms. Norma.
• Los ensayos de Coro serán los lunes y miércoles,
• La práctica de la Banda de Jazz Band serán los martes y jueves.
** Favor tomar nota que el transporte para las actividades después de escuela (ASA) no comenzará hasta el lunes 20 de agosto.
FORMULARIOS DE PERMISOS DE SALIDA - Nuestros formularios de permiso de salida de este año escolar también serán enviados hoy, deberán ser firmados y devueltos antes del miércoles, 15 de agosto. Los padres de familia serán notificados a tiempo de cualquier excursión que los estudiantes tengan programada, y pueden optar por no participar en cualquier momento.

25th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Our 25th Anniversary Celebration Committee is hard at work!
Our committee has been working non-stop with all the necessary preparations to make the Discovery School’s 25th Anniversary Celebration a tremendous experience. Our celebration will take place on Friday, August 31, 2018.
There will be a meeting at 2:00 p.m. this Wednesday, August 15th in the second floor conference room. Every parent who wishes to help out in some way, please come to this meeting.

¡Nuestro Comité de Celebración de los 25 Aniversario está trabajando arduamente! Nuestro comité ha estado trabajando sin parar con todos los preparativos necesarios para hacer de la Celebración de los 25 Aniversario de Discovery School, una gran experiencia. Nuestra celebración tendrá lugar el viernes 31 de agosto de 2018.
Habrá una reunión a las 2:00 p.m. este miércoles, 15 de agosto en el salón de conferencias del segundo piso. Todos los padres de familia que deseen ayudar de alguna manera, favor de llegar a esta reunión.

Paraphernalia- Water bottles, beach balls, pens, bags and mugs are still available for purchase. Please stop by Ms. Elisa’s desk in the accounting office and she will gladly assist you!
ALL INCLUSIVE BRACELETS - We will soon begin selling the celebration’s bracelets that will allow each student to have unlimited snacks and drinks, as well as access to all activities during the event. These can be purchased for the following fees:
- If you purchased a commemorative school shirt, the bracelets are $6 or L.150
- If you did NOT purchase a commemorative school shirt, they are $10 or L. 250
- Commemorative shirts will be sold on the day of the event, and the shirt-bracelet combo will be available for L. 450
We will begin receiving this fee on Monday, August 27, and distribute the bracelets on the day of the event.

Accesorios- botellas de agua, pelotas de playa, bolígrafos, bolsas y tazas todavía están disponibles para la compra. Favor de pasar por el escritorio de Ms. Elisa en la oficina de contabilidad y ella estará encantada de ayudarle!
PULSERAS TODO INCLUIDO - Pronto comenzaremos a vender las pulseras de la celebración que permitirán a cada estudiante tomar bocadillos y bebidas ilimitados, así como acceso a todas las actividades durante el evento. Estas se pueden comprar con los siguientes precios:
- Si compró una camiseta conmemorativa de la escuela, las pulseras tienen valor de $ 6 o L.150
- Si NO compro una camiseta conmemorativa de la escuela, tienen valor de $ 10 o L. 250
- Las camisetas conmemorativas se venderán el día del evento, y el combo de camisa y brazalete estará disponible por L. 450
Comenzaremos a recibir este pago el lunes 27 de agosto y distribuiremos las pulseras el día del evento.

The Discovery Parent Teacher Organization (DPTO) is an organization that works organizing activities that promote school community and pride. These dedicated parents work together to raise funds for several needs our school has (i.e. purchasing picnic tables, music and sports instruments, equipping the school’s nurse station, among others).
We invite all parents that want to be a part of this great working group to come to this year’s first meeting that will take place at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, August 17. We will be meeting in the Information Center.

La Organización de Padres y Maestros Discovery (DPTO) es una organización que trabaja organizando actividades que promueven la comunidad y el orgullo escolar. Estos dedicados madres y padres trabajan juntos para recaudar fondos para varias necesidades que tiene nuestra escuela (ejemplo, comprar mesas de picnic, instrumentos musicales y deportivos, equipar la enfermería de la escuela, entre otros).
Invitamos a todos los padres que deseen ser parte de este gran grupo de trabajo a asistir a la primera reunión de este año que tendrá lugar a las 8:00 a.m. del viernes 17 de agosto. Nos reuniremos en el Centro de Investigación.

REMINDERS
ATTENDANCE - Traffic is difficult for everybody in the city. Please make the necessary arrangements so your child arrives to school before 7:55 am.
BLOGS – we remind all parents and students to check the blogs every Monday afternoon (preferably) in order to be informed of the week’s content. Click on the tab labeled “Blog Links” in our school’s page http://discoveryschool.edu.hn/secondary
HOMEWORK CALENDAR – This is a very useful tool to keep track of homework, quizzes and tests, etc. The homework calendar is located within every grade’s blog.
ENGRADEPRO – check accounts frequently to monitor progres.
COMMUNICATION - If there is an issue that you wish to discuss regarding the blogs, the homework calendar, and/or Engrade, please send an email to Ms. Gloria Palacios (gpalacios@discoveryschool.edu.hn)

PSAT Exam - The school will administer the PSAT exam to all sophomores on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. A letter with all the PSAT exam information was sent last week (one was also sent in May) with all the details about this exam. We are reminding students/parents to please return this letter signed and make the payment of $25 for this exam in the finance office by August 24, 2018.
