Extendemos nuestro más sincero agradecimiento a los representantes del DPTO, a todos los padres de familia que colaboraron para ayudar a instalar los stands, a prestar vestidos para el desfile cultural o a dedicar tiempo y energía para que la celebración del Día de las Naciones Unidas fuera un éxito. La participación de nuestra comunidad es una de las muchas cosas que hacen que Discovery School sea un excelente lugar. ¡Vamos lobos!

TRAFFIC AROUND THE CITY - There have been several demonstrations in the city that directly affect the routes of some of our buses in the afternoon, and the access that some of our parents have to reach our school for picking up students. We want to reassure you that our admin teams monitors these situations carefully, and will be contacting parents if we receive an alert from the U.S. Embassy that demonstrations are taking place, which will be notified to you via email and whatsapp messages. Furthermore, we will be contacting parents when buses are caught in traffic and experiencing delays. We ask for your comprehension in this matter.
ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL OF STUDENTS- We want to remind parents that our school day begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. and that our school ends at 3:00 p.m. Our teachers are in school since 7:15 a.m. in case parents want to beat the morning traffic and want to bring their students a little bit earlier. Our After School Activities run from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m., and the After School Activities’ bus leaves the school’s campus at 4:20 p.m. We ask for parental support in being prompt in picking your child(ren) up at the end of their school day.

TRÁFICO ALREDEDOR DE LA CIUDAD: se han presentado varias manifestaciones en la ciudad que afectan directamente las rutas de algunos de nuestros autobuses por la tarde y el acceso que tienen algunos de nuestros padres de familia para llegar a nuestra escuela a recoger a los estudiantes. Queremos asegurarle que nuestros equipos de administración monitorean estas situaciones cuidadosamente, y nos comunicaremos con los padres de familia si recibimos una alerta de la Embajada Americana de que se están realizando demostraciones, se le notificarán por correo electrónico y mensajes de WhatsApp. Además, nos pondremos en contacto con los padres de familia cuando los autobuses estén en tráfico pesado y tengan retrasos. Les solicitamos su comprensión en este asunto.
LLEGADA Y SALIDA DE ESTUDIANTES: queremos recordarles a los padres de familia que nuestro día escolar comienza puntualmente a las 8:00 a.m. y que nuestra escuela termina a las 3:00 p.m. Nuestros maestros están en la escuela desde las 7:15 a.m. en caso de que los padres de familia quieran evitar el tráfico de la mañana y quieran traer a los estudiantes un poco antes. Nuestras actividades después de la escuela estan de 3:15 a 4:15 p.m., y el autobús de las actividades después de la escuela sale a las 4:20 p.m. Solicitamos el apoyo de los padres de familia para ser puntual en recoger a sus hijos (as) al final de su día escolar.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR PROUD WOLVES! Last week our school campus seemed a bit empty...but only because we had outstanding students who traveled abroad to represent our school in the AASCA Basketball (in Costa Rica) and PANAMUN (Panama - Model United Nations). We are EXTREMELY PROUD of all the hard work these young women and men have done in preparation for these events. Our school appreciates you, and the support you receive from your parents! GO WOLVES!

¡FELICIDADES A NUESTROS ORGULLOSOS LOBOS! La semana pasada, en el campus de nuestra escuela parecía un poco vacío ... pero solo porque teníamos estudiantes sobresalientes que viajaron fuera del país para representar a nuestra escuela en AASCA Basketball (en Costa Rica) y PANAMUN (Panamá - Modelo de Naciones Unidas). Estamos EXTREMADAMENTE ORGULLOSOS de todo el trabajo arduo que estos jóvenes han realizado en preparación para estos eventos. ¡Nuestra escuela les aprecia y el apoyo que reciben de parte de sus padres! ¡ Vamos Lobos!

LANGUAGE ARTS COMPETITIONS THIS WEEK
|
|
|
Our students have been working very hard studying for their class Spelling and Ortografia competitions, and working in class to prepare their Speech and Oratoria pieces for the Internal Language Arts competition that will take place this Friday, November 2. The winners of these competitions will be representing us at the ABSH Language Arts Festival held in February 2019, and in the local Spelling Bee in Tegucigalpa held usually in March. Thank you for your support of our students in this academic endeavour.

Nuestros estudiantes han estado trabajando muy duro estudiando para sus competiciones de deletreo y ortografía y trabajando en clase para preparar sus piezas de oratoria para la competencia de artes lingüísticas internas que tendrá lugar este viernes 2 de noviembre. Los ganadores de estas competiciones serán representándonos en el ABSH Language Arts Festival celebrado en febrero de 2019, y en el concurso de deletreo y ortografía local en Tegucigalpa, que generalmente se realiza en marzo. Gracias por su apoyo a nuestros estudiantes en este esfuerzo académico.

EARLY CHILHOOD HEALTH FAIR
|

|
Early Childhood is offering a vision and dental screening for your child. The vision testing will be done by optometrists from Optica Centro Clínico and the dental examination by Dental CPO (Central de Profilaxis Odontológico). This service is free of cost and will take place Thursday, November 15 and Friday November 16, 2018. Permission slips will be sent soon.

En Pre-escolar se le esta ofreciendo una revisión de la vista y dental para su hijo (a). Las pruebas de la vista serán realizadas por optometristas de la Óptica Centro Clínico y el examen dental por Dental CPO (Central de Profilaxis Odontológico). Este servicio es gratuito y se llevará a cabo el jueves 15 de noviembre y el viernes 16 de noviembre de 2018. Pronto se enviarán los formularios de permiso.

BOOK CHARACTER DAY AT DISCOVERY SCHOOL

BOOK CHARACTER DAY IS HERE!!!!! This Wednesday, October 31. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will set up a live interactive museum that day, which will last from 8:50-9:40 a.m. This will allow the younger students to come and learn about new book characters. Parents are welcome to come and meet all the exciting characters and learn about some new books.

EL DIA DEL PERSONAJE FAVORITO DE UN LIBOR ESTA CERCA!! Este miércoles 31 de octubre. Los alumnos de 3ro, 4to y 5to grado tendrán un museo interactivo de 8:50 a 9:45 a.m. Esto permitirá que los más pequeños puedan aprender de estos personajes y libros. Invitamos a los padres a asistir y conocer a estos personajes y aprender sobre algunos libros nuevos.!

IMPORTANT
- ELECTRONIC DEVICES - as part of their school supplies, students are required to bring a laptop or a tablet with a keyboard in order to work in class. The use of cell phones as a working device will no longer be allowed as it not appropriate for typing and it also creates distraction with the use of social media. Laptops and tablets connect through our school’s wifi and allows us to control the child’s content.
- FUNDACION ABRIGO - provides lodging for families from outside Tegucigalpa who bring patients to Hospital Escuela. Discovery School has been a partner in solidarity with Fundacion Abrigo for the past years. We are asking for a donation of 1 gallon of disinfectant per family. Please send us your donation per family by Wednesday, October 31.
REMINDERS
ATTENDANCE - Traffic is difficult for everybody in the city. Please make the necessary arrangements so your child arrives to school before 7:55 am.

HOMEWORK CALENDAR –
This is a very useful tool to keep track of homework, quizzes and tests, etc. The homework calendar is located within every grade’s blog.

IMPORTANTE
- DISPOSITIVOS ELECTRÓNICOS: como parte de los útiles escolares, los estudiantes deben traer una computadora portátil o una tableta con un teclado para poder trabajar en clase. El uso de teléfonos celulares como un dispositivo de trabajo ya no se permitirá, ya que no es apropiado para escribir y también crea distracción con el uso de las redes sociales. Las computadoras portátiles y las tabletas se conectan a través del wifi de nuestra escuela y nos permiten controlar el contenido.
- FUNDACION ABRIGO es un albergue para familias que vienen de afuera de Tegucigalpa buscando asistencia médica en el Hospital Escuela. Discovery School ha sido siempre solidaria con Fundación Abrigo, por lo que estamos solicitando su donación de un galón de desinfectante por familia. Favor enviar su donación antes del 31 de octubre.
