CONGRATULATIONS WOLVES! It is through hard work, dedication and team effort that great things are achieved. Our basketball team is the best example! These young men have trained hard, giving up vacations, holidays and weekends, and their sacrifice has paid off! It is a completely new era in sports at Discovery School, and all thanks to the hard work of our players and their coaches. KUDOS TO ALL OF YOU! YOU HAVE MADE DISCOVERY SCHOOL STAND OUT! May you continue to play as exemplary as you have so far in your participation at the ABSH tournament in San Pedro Sula this week!
SCHOOL CLIMATE SURVEYS - As part of our AdvancED requirements for accreditation, we will be asking all the members of our school community to collaborate in completing a climate survey next week. A link will be shared with parents in next week’s Monday Memo. It is of utmost importance to get the participation of all parents for this survey. Students and teachers will be completing theirs at school.
HOLIDAY BASKETS CONTRIBUTION
- It is customary at Discovery School for our families to come together towards the Holiday Season and open their hearts to share with others in our community. This year, the school is looking at preparing 29 Holiday Baskets for our maintenance, support and security staff. We are asking for a family contribution of L150 to be sent before Friday, November 16. Please place your contribution in a sealed envelope with your family name, and send it to school or give it to one of your homeroom teachers. These proceeds will be used to buy the staples for the Holiday Baskets that will be given out before the Holiday Break.

Es a través del trabajo duro, la dedicación y el esfuerzo en equipo que se logran grandes cosas. ¡Nuestro equipo de baloncesto es el mejor ejemplo! ¡Estos jóvenes han entrenado duro, renunciando a vacaciones, días festivos y fines de semana, y su sacrificio ha dado sus frutos! Es una era completamente nueva en los deportes en Discovery School, y todo gracias al arduo trabajo de nuestros jugadores y sus entrenadores. KUDOS A TODOS! ¡USTEDES HAN DESTACADO LA ESCUELA DISCOVERY! ¡Esperamos que continúen jugando tan ejemplar como lo han hecho hasta ahora en su participación en el torneo ABSH en San Pedro Sula esta semana!
ENCUESTAS DEL AMBIENTE ESCOLAR: como parte de nuestros requisitos de AdvancED para la acreditación, solicitaremos a todos los miembros de nuestra comunidad escolar que colaboren para completar la encuesta de ambiente escolar. Se compartirá un enlace con los padres de familia en el Monday Memo de la próxima semana. Es de suma importancia obtener la participación de todos los padres de familia para esta encuesta. Los estudiantes y los maestros estarán completando los suyos en la escuela.
CONTRIBUCIÓN DE CANASTAS NAVIDEÑAS - Como es de costumbre en la Escuela Discovery, nuestras familias se unen para la temporada Navideña y abren sus corazones para compartir con otros en nuestra comunidad. Este año, la escuela está preparando 29 canastas navideñas para nuestro personal de mantenimiento, limpieza y seguridad. Estamos solicitando que se envíe una contribución por familia de L150 antes del viernes 16 de noviembre. Por favor, colocar su contribución en un sobre sellado con el nombre de su familia, y enviarlo a la escuela o entregarlo al maestro guía del aula. Está contribución se utilizara para comprar los alimentos básicos para las canastas navideñas que se entregarán antes de las vacaciones.

BLACK WEDNESDAY will take place on November 21, and will give the opportunity to our student body to purchase interesting fiction and nonfiction books in English, Spanish and French, at incredible prices (ranging from $3 - $7 each). We hope our students will seize this opportunity and purchase many books.

BLACK WEDNESDAY se llevará a cabo el 21 de noviembre y se le dará la oportunidad a nuestros estudiantes de comprar libros interesantes de ficción y no ficción en inglés, español y francés, a precios increíbles (desde $ 3 a $ 7 cada uno). THANKSGIVING MENU AT DISCOVERY SCHOOL

Our cafeteria personnel has prepared a delicious menu for our students to enjoy on Wednesday, November 21. You will find the options for this day by clicking on the following link. Pre-ordering forms will be sent next week, and will need to be returned no later than Friday, November 16. Only pre ordered meals will be served that day! Please make sure you plan accordingly.

EARLY CHILHOOD HEALTH FAIR

Early Childhood is offering a vision and dental screening for your child. The vision testing will be done by optometrists from Optica Centro Clínico and the dental examination by Dental CPO (Central de Profilaxis Odontológico). This service is free of cost and will take place Thursday, November 15 and Friday November 16, 2018. Permission slips will be sent soon.

En Pre-escolar se le esta ofreciendo una revisión de la vista y dental para su hijo (a). Las pruebas de la vista serán realizadas por optometristas de la Óptica Centro Clínico y el examen dental por Dental CPO (Central de Profilaxis Odontológico). Este servicio es gratuito y se llevará a cabo el jueves 15 de noviembre y el viernes 16 de noviembre de 2018. Pronto se enviarán los formularios de permiso.

ELEMENTARY STUDENT COUNCIL WINNERS AND ASSEMBLY

Our Elementary Students held elections last week to appoint their Environmental Ambassadors to the Student Council. Congratulations to the winners in each grade:
2nd Grade: Gabriel Perdomo, Kinley Carnell
3rd Grade: Valeria Gough
4th Grade: Mateo Jacome
5th Grade: Ninel Cevallos
6th Grade: Adriana Lucia Jimenez, Sharon Tulli
They will be joined by last year’s returning ambassadors: Luciana Nunez, Emma Rapalo, and Ivanna Lopez.
These students will have their first meeting with school authorities and their STUCO advisor this Tuesday, November 6 at 7:20 a.m. in the second floor conference room.
The school congratulates these elected officers, and is looking forward to working with them to promote school price and environmental conscience.

La escuela felicita a estos oficiales electos y espera trabajar con ellos para promover el valor escolar y la conciencia ambiental.

IMPORTANT
- ELECTRONIC DEVICES - as part of their school supplies, students are required to bring a laptop or a tablet with a keyboard in order to work in class. The use of cell phones as a working device will no longer be allowed as it not appropriate for typing and it also creates distraction with the use of social media. Laptops and tablets connect through our school’s wifi and allows us to control the child’s content.
REMINDERS
ATTENDANCE - Traffic is difficult for everybody in the city. Please make the necessary arrangements so your child arrives to school before 7:55 am.

we remind all parents and students to check the blogs every Monday afternoon (preferably) in order to be informed of the week’s content. Click on the tab labeled “Blog Links” in our school’s page http://discoveryschool.edu.hn/secondary
HOMEWORK CALENDAR –
This is a very useful tool to keep track of homework, quizzes and tests, etc. The homework calendar is located within every grade’s blog.

IMPORTANTE
- DISPOSITIVOS ELECTRÓNICOS: como parte de los útiles escolares, los estudiantes deben traer una computadora portátil o una tableta con un teclado para poder trabajar en clase. El uso de teléfonos celulares como un dispositivo de trabajo ya no se permitirá, ya que no es apropiado para escribir y también crea distracción con el uso de las redes sociales. Las computadoras portátiles y las tabletas se conectan a través del wifi de nuestra escuela y nos permiten controlar el contenido.

Scholastic News: We apologize for the delay we have had getting our Scholastic books delivered on time to our school. Customs has delayed this process but Scholastic is working on the order to be released from customs as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
