REGIONAL SPELLING BEE:
This Saturday, Discovery School has 12 students represent our school in the Regional Spelling Bee hosted the International School of Tegucigalpa. Mr. Pappas and Mr. Ketterer also are giving up their Saturday morning to help as judges during the event. We are very proud of the work our students have done in preparing for this competition, and thank their parents and teachers for their support in their preparation.

CONCURSO REGIONAL DE DELETREO - Este sábado, Discovery School tiene 12 estudiantes que representarán a la escuela en el Concurso Regional de Deletreo, con sede en la Escuela Internacional de Tegucigalpa. También Mr. Pappas y Mr. Ketterer están cediendo su sábado por la mañana para ayudar como jueces durante el evento. Estamos muy orgullosos del trabajo que nuestros estudiantes han realizado en la preparación de esta competencia, y agradecemos a sus padres, madres y maestros por su apoyo en su preparación.

THIRD QUARTER REPORT CARDS AND CONFERENCE -
Parents please take note that this Friday, March 22 Report Cards for the third quarter will be sent home. This day is an early dismissal (P.M. Schedule) and students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m. Conferences (on a need basis) will be held in the afternoon (1:00 to 3:00 p.m.). If you would like to meet with a teacher and a conference was not requested, please contact the school and set up an appointment.

AASCA SPORTSMANSHIP FESTIVAL
This Thursday, 11 middle school students will travel to the Panamerican School in Costa Rica to participate in the festival from March 20 to March 24. Our students will participate in basketball, volleyball, track & field, cross country, and soccer. Sportsmanship is an aspiration or ethos that a sport or activity will be enjoyed for its own sake, with proper consideration for fairness, ethics, respect, and a sense of fellowship with one's competitors. The school group will travel with Ms. Yery Villeda, Mr. Alvin Cacho, and Mr. Steven Cacho.

FESTIVAL DEPORTIVO DE AASCA
Este jueves, 11 estudiantes de secundaria viajarán a la Escuela Panamericana en Costa Rica para participar en el festival del 20 al 24 de marzo. Nuestros estudiantes participarán en baloncesto, voleibol, atletismo, campo traviesa y fútbol. El espíritu deportivo es una aspiración o ética de que un deporte o una actividad que se disfrutará por si misma, con la debida consideración de la imparcialidad, la ética, el respeto y la sensación de compañerismo con los competidores. El grupo escolar viajará con Ms. Yery Villeda, Mr. Alvin Cacho y Mr. Steven Cacho.

Academic Events in the Early Childhood and Elementary

In Early Childhood we learn about many things. We teach our children about sharing and helping. CEPUDO is a nonprofit organization that helps people in need. One of the activities they carry out is donating goodie bags to new mothers at Hospital Materno Infantil. These goodie bags are filled with essentials for mothers and babies. In the next few weeks, you will be receiving an EMPTY TOTE BAG, so you and your child, can go through their baby clothes and pick out items they would like to donate to others.

En Pre-escolar, aprendemos acerca de muchas cosas. Enseñamos a nuestros estudiantes a compartir y ayudar. CEPUDO es una organización sin fines de lucro que ayuda a las personas con poco recursos. Una de las actividades que realizan es donar bolsas de artículos necesarios a las nuevas madres en el Hospital Materno Infantil. Estas bolsas de regalos llenas de productos les ayudan a las madres y los bebés. En las próximas semanas, recibirá una BOLSA VACIA, para que usted y su hijo (a) puedan revisar la ropa usada de su hijo(a) cuando era bebé y elegir los artículos que les gustaría donar.

SCIENCE FAIR - Our teachers and students have been working very hard in preparation for the Science Fair. This event will take place on Friday, April 5, beginning at 11 a.m. Parents are welcome to visit the projects in grades K - 6, but may not be present when their child is being judged for the competition (grades 3-6). Awards will be given in an assembly before the end of the day.

FERIA DE CIENCIAS-Nuestros maestros y estudiantes han estado trabajando muy duro para prepararse para la Feria de Ciencias. Este evento se llevará a cabo el viernes 5 de abril, a partir de las 11 a.m. Los padres de familia son bienvenidos para visitar los proyectos en los grados de K -6. Sin embargo, los padres no deberán estar presentes cuando se evalúe a su hijo (a) para la competencia (grados 3-6). Los premios se entregarán en una asamblea antes de finalizar el día.

ABSH MODEL UNITED NATIONS - 13 secondary students will travel to La Ceiba from March 28 - 31 in order to participate in the Model United Nations competition. The competition will be hosted by Mazapan School. We wish our delegates the best of luck. Thank you Mr. Stewart and Mr. Duryea for coaching our delegates.

ABSH MODELO DE NACIONES UNIDAS - 13 estudiantes de secundaria viajarán a La Ceiba del 28 al 31 de marzo para participar en el concurso Modelo de Naciones Unidas. La competencia será organizada por la Escuela Mazapan. Deseamos a nuestros delegados la mejor de las suertes. Gracias a Mr. Stewart y a Mr. Duryea por entrenar a nuestros delegados.

ABSH MATH OLYMPICS AND MATH BOWL - 13 secondary students will participate in:
- Basic Math, Pre Algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry exams.
- Cartesian and Euclidean categories
The math competitions will be hosted by Palmeras Bilingual School in La Ceiba in April 5 - 6. We wish our mathletes the best. The group will travel with their coaches Ms. Ashley Lardizabal and Mr. Cesar Martinez.

ABSH MATH BOWL & MATH OLYMPICS- 13 estudiantes de secundaria participarán en:
- Exámenes de Matemáticas Básicas, Pre Álgebra, Álgebra 1 y Geometría.
- Categorías Cartesianas y Euclidianas.
Las competencias de matemáticas serán organizadas por la Escuela Bilingüe Palmeras en La Ceiba del 5 al 6 de abril. Deseamos a nuestros atletas de matemáticas lo mejor. El grupo viajará con sus entrenadores, Ms. Ashley Lardizabal y Mr. Cesar Martínez.

ABSH VOLLEYBALL - for the first time, the school will participate with a girls team in the pre-juvenile category. The event will be hosted by the Escuela Internacional Sampedrana on April 24 - 27. We wish our 11 girls the best. The group will travel with Ms. Yery and their coach.

SENIORS NEWS:
We are proud to share with you Santiago Zelaya’s most recent university admission. Santiago was admitted to The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. The Catholic University of America is the national university of the Catholic Church and the only higher education institution founded by the U.S. Bishops . Santiago’s academic record and personal qualities were recognized to be an excellent fit for this renowned institution. Kudos to you, Santiago!

SCHOLASTIC NEWS:
Scholastic Book Club leaflets will be given out this week. This is an optional activity offered by the school, because we know you want to motivate your child to read at home. With your purchase, our library will accumulate points to redeem more books for the benefit of your children in our school. The due date to purchase the books online is April 5, 2019. The books will arrive to the school in one single delivery, and we will distribute them to the students according to their orders, approximately three weeks after the purchase due date.

Los folletos del Clud de Libros Scholastic se enviarán esta semana. Esta es una actividad opcional que ofrece la escuela, porque sabemos que quiere motivar a su hijo (a) a leer en casa. Con su compra, nuestra biblioteca acumulará puntos para canjear más libros en beneficio de sus hijos (as) en nuestra escuela. La fecha límite para comprar los libros en línea es el 5 de abril de 2019. Los libros llegarán a la escuela en una solo paquete y los distribuiremos a los estudiantes según el pedido, aproximadamente tres semanas después de la fecha de límite de compra.
