TEACHER APPRECIATION LUNCH –
We wish to thank the DPTO for a delicious Teacher Appreciation Lunch last
Friday, and for the thoughtful gift (key chain) that they gave to our teachers.
The DPTO had an outstanding and productive year. Kudos to President Sara Bueso and the DPTO
Team.

Congratulations are also in order for
the newly elected board members: Ms.
Carolina Villarreal, Mr. José Alvarez, Ms. Mara Vallecillo de Young, and Ms.
Ninoska Adam-Glynn.
And let us not forget the continuing
board members, Mr. Chris Mueller, Mr. Arnaldo Palma, and Mr. Erik Turner. Thank you all for your commitment to
Discovery School!
SPREAD THE WORD! OPEN HOUSE
– The school will have an Open House for new families on Friday, May 20, from
8:30 to 10:30 a.m. This is a day in which we have to shine! This is a great
opportunity for us to showcase the best of who we are!
THANK YOU – Ms.
Cara, Ms. Emilia and Ms. Grace for acting as judges in our Discovery Idol
auditions. Because of the many students who want to participate, the auditions
were extended to Friday, and the results will be posted on the Music room’s
door on Monday afternoon.

AWARDS ASSEMBLY – The
school will be recognizing students with the President’s Education Awards for
Academic Excellence and Academic Achievement, and the American Citizenship Awards.
We will be also recognizing students who have represented the school in
different competitions both locally and nationally. The assembly will take place on Friday, May
27 @ 1:30 pm.
SECONDARY NEWS:
BAKE SALE
– The Juniors will be having their last bake sale of the year on Friday, May 20. Goodies will be sold
during snack and lunch. All proceeds will go towards their upcoming community
service.
CHECKOUT LIST
(for secondary students only) – Secondary students need to complete a checkout
list in order to clear with the Administration and teachers before the end of
the year. This checkout list includes textbooks, reading novels, school
material, etc.

May 27, Monday, May 30, and Tuesday, May 31.

DAILY
ATTENDANCE – We would like to remind
parents that it is extremely important that your child arrives to school on
time EVERY DAY. By getting to school
on time, your child is able to organize his/her locker and backpack, turn in
all homework, and still have time to meet and greet his friends. When your
child is late to school, he come to class stressed out, interrupts the class,
and misses important information given by the teacher at the beginning of the
class. We strongly recommend your child arrives to school by 7:45 a.m. There is
a warning bell @ 7:55 and then classes begin promptly @ 8:00 a.m.

ALMUERZO DE APRECIACION DEL PERSONAL – Deseamos agradecer al DPTO por el delicioso
almuerzo de Apreciacion para los maestros del viernes pasado, y por el considerado
regalo (un llavero) que le dieron a nuestros maestros. El DPTO tuvo un
satisfactorio y muy productivo año. Felicidades a la presidente Sara Bueso y al
equipo del DPTO.

CORRAN LA VOZ! OPEN HOUSE – La escuela tendrá un Open House para nuevas
familias el viernes 20 de mayo, de las 8:30 a 10:30 a.m. Este es un día en el
cual debemos brillar! Esta es una gran oportunidad para mostrar lo mejor de lo
que somos!
AGRADECIMIENTO – A Ms. Cara, Ms. Emilia y Ms. Grace por actuar de jueces en las audiciones de nuestro
concurso Discovery Idol. Debido a que teníamos una gran cantidad de alumnos que
querían participar extendimos las audiciones hasta el viernes, y los resultados
serán publicados en la puerta del aula de música el lunes por la tarde.

ASAMBLEA DE PREMIACION – La escuela estará reconociendo a los alumnos con
los premios de Educación Presidencial por Excelencia Académica y Logros Académicos,
y los premios de Ciudadanía Americana. También estaremos reconociendo a los
alumnos que han representado a la escuela en diferentes competencias tanto
locales como nacionales. La asamblea de premiación se realizará el viernes 27
de mayo a la 1:30 p.m.
NOTICIAS DE SECUNDARIA:
VENTA DE PASTELES – Los Juniors tendrán su última venta de pasteles
del año el viernes 20 de mayo. La
venta será durante el receso y el almuerzo. Todas las ganancias son para su
próximo año de servicio social.
LISTA DE REVISION FINAL (solamente para alumnos de secundaria) – los alumnos
de secundaria necesitan completar su lista de revisión final con la Administración
y los maestros para cumplir con los requisitos de fin de año. Esta lista
incluye confirmar el retorno de libros de texto, novelas, material escolar,
etc.

ASISTENCIA DIARIA – Queremos recordarles a los padres que es
extremadamente importante que sus hijos lleguen a la escuela a tiempo TODOS LOS DÍAS. Al llegar a tiempo, le
da tiempo a su hijo(a) a organizar su casillero y mochila, entregar las tareas,
y todavía tener tiempo para saludar a sus amigos. Cuando su hijo(a) llega
tarde, llega a las clases estresado, interrumpe la clase, y se pierde de
información importante que los maestros dan al inicio de la clase. Firmemente
les recomendamos que sus hijos lleguen a la escuela antes de las 7:45 a.m. Suena
una campana de aviso a las 7:55 a.m. y las clases comienzan a las 8:00 a.m. en
punto.

Felicitamos a Juan Diego Caballero quien

Nuevo Orleans (UNO). Estamos orgullosos de tus éxitos Juan Diego!
CAMPAMENTOS DE VERANO EN LA ESCUELA DISCOVERY – Así como el año pasado, tendremos dos campamentos
en el mes de junio. El Discovery Fun 7 que será un campamento divertido,
artístico y mucho entretenimiento para los niños de 3 a 9 años. También
tendremos el campamento de refuerzo para lectura, escritura y francés para
alumnos de K – 4 grado. Ambos campamentos se realizarán del 13 de junio al 1 de
julio, al mismo horario (8:00 a.m. a 12:00). Tendremos transporte disponible
con un costo adicional. Si usted o un familiar/o amigo está interesado, Ms.
Carolina o en la oficina de contabilidad le proporcionarán mayor información.
