REPORT CARDS FOR THE THIRD QUARTER– The third quarter ended last Friday March 18. Report cards will be issued this Friday March 25. This is a half day/early dismissal (PM Schedule). Conferences for students are on a need basis. If you are not contacted for a conference but would like to meet with a teacher, please contact the school as soon as possible.
CURRICULUM WORK: As part of the Curriculum Revision and Alignment required by the SACS Accreditation Team in their visit last April, teachers have begun meeting to discuss the Curriculum Standards and delivery of instruction. We are focusing on vertical and horizontal alignment of the standards—identifying if there is a gap or unnecessary redundancy in the introduction or mastery of topics and skills. Our preliminary meetings have confirmed that our curriculum, in general, addresses the needs and expectations of international standards of education. This is an exciting process that requires us to examine the curriculum carefully and gain a deeper understanding of why and how we are delivering instruction, and develop a thoroughly aligned and comprehensive curriculum for every class that we teach. In addition to ensuring the validity of the curriculum, this process gives teachers the opportunity and platform to reflect and talk about their courses, understand what is being taught in classes at other grade levels, and identify areas that we need to change.
** In order to provide an extended block of time for teachers to work together on the curriculum, we will have an early dismissal for all students at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6. This will allow all of our teachers to come together in departmental meetings across grade levels.**
Buses will run at 11:45 a.m. Please take note and make sure that someone is available to meet the bus when your child arrives home. If your child doesn’t ride the bus, please make the necessary arrangements to pick your child up promptly at 11:45 a.m. Teachers will not be available to supervise students after 12:00 p.m.
Congratulations to Adriana Sierra (and of course her parents Lizzett and Rigo). Adriana was selected as the 2010 Juvenile Horseback Rider in Honduras and given an award this weekend. Well done Adriana—we are proud of you!
PARENT FORUM MEETINGS: Parent forums are going very well, and we appreciate all of the comments and suggestions that the meetings have generated so far. Please exercise this option to make your voices heard. Our parents are our partners in education, and working together we can achieve remarkable things with our students. TRABAJO CURRICULAR: Como parte de la revisión curricular y alineación requerida por el Equipo de Acreditación SACS en su visita en abril pasado, los maestros han comenzado a reunirse para discutir los Estándares Curriculares. Nos estamos centrando en la alineación vertical y horizontal de los estándares identificando si existe una brecha o redundancia innecesaria en la introducción o el dominio de los temas y habilidades. Nuestras reuniones preliminares han confirmado que nuestro plan de estudios, en general, responde a las necesidades y expectativas de las normas internacionales de la educación. Este es un proceso apasionante que nos obliga a examinar cuidadosamente el plan de estudios y adquirir una comprensión más profunda de por qué y cómo estamos cumpliendo el curriculum, y desarrollar un plan de estudios bien alineado y completo para todas las clases que enseñamos. Además de garantizar la validez del plan de estudios, este proceso da a los maestros la oportunidad y plataforma para reflexionar y hablar sobre sus clases, entender lo que se enseña en las clases en otros niveles de grado, e identificar las áreas que necesitamos cambiar.
** Con el fin de proporcionar un bloque de tiempo para que los maestros trabajan juntos en el plan de estudios, tendremos una salida temprana para todos los alumnos a las 11:45 am. del miércoles 6 de abril. Esto permitirá que todos nuestros maestros se reúnan en las reuniones por departamentos en los diferentes grados. **
Los autobuses saldrán a las 11:45 am. Por favor, tómelo en cuenta y asegúrese de que alguien esté disponible para encontrarse con el autobús cuando el niño llegue a casa. Si su hijo/a no viaja en el autobús, por favor haga los arreglos necesarios para recoger a su hijo sin demora a las 11:45 am. Los maestros no estarán disponibles para supervisar a los estudiantes después de la 12:00 pm.
