AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES START ON TUESDAY, APRIL 5. ALL ACTIVITIES will meet for the first two weeks (April 5, April 12 and April 13) to determine if there is enough student interest to continue for the remainder of the six-week activity period. Students will be allowed to join during this two-week period by returning the Activity form signed by the parents. Once it is determined that an activity will continue to meet, parents will be asked to pay the activity fee. EARLY DISMISSAL ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 6: All students will be dismissed, and buses will run, at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, to allow our teachers to work on alignment of the curriculum, as required by our SACS accreditation. Please be sure to pick your child up on time, as there will be no teacher supervision after 12:00 noon. There will be no After-School Activities on Wednesday, April 6.
SPANISH COMPETITION AT DOWAL SCHOOL: Throughout this week, many of our students will be representing our school at Spanish competitions at Dowal School. Transportation will be provided by our school, and these students will be accompanied by a Spanish teacher each day.
DPTO MOVIE NIGHT: the DPTO has been working very hard to prepare the traditional MOVIE NIGHT which will take place this Friday April 8th from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. The movies that will be shown simultaneously are “Despicable Me” for the little ones, and “The Social Network” for the older ones. All proceeds will be donated to the victims of the Japanese Earthquake/Tsunami. Please promote this wonderful activity with your students. Teacher attendance is NOT mandatory, but encouraged!
DPTO BOARD FOR THE 2011 - 2012 YEAR
At the DPTO monthly meeting on March 2nd, a new slate of officers agreed to be on the DPTO Board that will start acting on June 1st, 2011. Such officers are:

If there are other parents who are also interested in acting in these positions on the DPTO Board, formal elections will be held in mid-May 2011, as per the DPTO by-laws. FROM THE GUIDANCE COUNSELOR’S OFFICE
Our Juniors (11th grade) will visit Education USA on Thursday, April 7, at 2:00 pm for an SAT diagnostic test. This activity will last between 3 to 4 hours. The school will provide transportation there, but parents are responsible for picking the students up. Information on the location will be shared with the students so they can inform their parents. STUDENT APPRECIATION: For Discovery School’s first “Student Appreciation” event, students will have an Ice Cream Social at 2:15 p.m. on Friday, April 8. Locations on campus will be announced.
ACTIVIDADES EXTRA CURRICULARES, COMIENZAN EL MARTES 5 DE ABRIL. TODAS LAS ACTIVIDADES SE REUNIRAN POR LAS PRIMERAS DOS SEMANAS (el 5 de abril, 12 y 13 de abril) para determinar si hay suficiente interés de los alumnos para continuar el resto del período de actividad de seis semanas. Los alumnos podrán participar durante este período de dos semanas, devolviendo el formulario de actividad firmado por los padres. Una vez que se determina que una actividad seguirá reuniéndose, se les pedirá a los padres que paguen la cuota de la actividad. Si usted tiene alguna pregunta, póngase en contacto con los profesores de educación física (Ms. Carol y Mr. Víctor) o Ms. Giles.
SALIDA TEMPRANA EL MIÉRCOLES 6 DE ABRIL: todos los alumnos serán despachados, y los autobuses funcionarán a las 11:45 am. del miércoles 6 de abril, para permitir a nuestros profesores a trabajar en la adaptación del currículo, como lo requiere nuestra acreditación SACS. Asegúrese de recoger a su hijo en punto, ya que no habrán maestros supervisando después de las 12:00 del mediodía. No habrán actividades extracurriculares el miércoles 6 de abril.
COMPETENCIA DE ESPAÑOL EN LA DOWAL SCHOOL: Durante esta semana, varios de nuestros alumnos estarán representando a nuestra escuela en las competencias de Español en la Dowal School. El transporte será proveído por nuestra escuela, y estos alumnos irán acompañados cada día por un maestro de español.
DPTO NOCHE DE CINE: el DPTO ha estado trabajando arduamente para preparar la tradicional NOCHE DE CINE la cual será este viernes 8 de abril desde las 5:30 hasta las 8:00 pm. Las películas que se exhibirán serán “Despicable Me” para los pequeños, y “Red Social” para los mayores. Todas las ganancias serán donadas a las victimas del Terremoto/Tsunami en Japón. Favor promocione esta maravillosa actividad con sus alumnos. La asistencia de los maestros NO es obligatoria pero se les anima asistir!

DE LA OFICINA DE CONSEJERIA ESTUDIANTIL
Nuestros juniors (11vo grado) visitarán la oficina Education USA, el día jueves 7 de abril a las 2:00 pm. Para una prueba de diagnostico SAP. Esta actividad durará de 3 a 4 horas. La escuela proveerá el transporte al lugar, pero los padres serán responsables de recoger a los alumnos.
