Thanks to all the parents who attended our Open House last Thursday, and those who have signed up to contribute with our DPTO. If you could not attend, please take the time to stop by the office to pick up this year’s Parent-Student Handbook and to update your contact information with our teachers and office.
Thanks also to all the parents who joined the Elementary students and teachers for the fieldtrip to Chiminike last Friday. Our students had a wonderful time and the activity was a great success.
ECO FRIENDLY LUNCH: Two events to jumpstart the school’s recycling project will take place this week. Mrs Christina Agurcia’s AP Environmental Science students will be offering 20 minute chats for students in PreK through Grade 9. The second event is the Eco-Friendly Lunch that will be hosted on Thursday August 25. Please encourage your child to bring an Eco-Friendly lunch on Thursday. BENTLEY UNIVERSITY VISIT: On Tuesday, August 30, at 10:30 a.m., Bentley University in Massachusetts will visit Discovery School to talk with students about their programs, scholarships, etc. Grades 11 and 12 students will meet with the representatives in the Library, and all parents who are interested are invited to attend. MEETING WITH BUS STUDENTS: On Monday at 2:45 p.m., Ms. Giles will meet in the gym with all students who ride the bus, to go over the rules and expectations.
BUS REMINDER FOR STUDENTS, PARENTS, AND TEACHERS: Students are not allowed to get off the bus once they have gotten on in the afternoon. It creates an unsafe condition and adds confusion to the dismissal process when kids are going back and forth. Please discuss this with your child at home. Thanks for your cooperation in keeping our students safe.
HONDURAN FLAG DAY ACTIVITY: Teachers will bring their students to the gym area at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 1, for the Flag Day activity.
REMINDER – Please make sure you check our teachers’ blog posts regularly. Teachers are asked to update their information every week, and these are posted by 8:00 a.m. each Monday Morning. Please give the teachers your feedback concerning the blogs—they put a lot of time and thought into preparing them, and it is helpful to hear from the students and parents to know how effective they are as a communication tool.

Muchas gracias a todos los padres que asistieron a nuestro Open House el pasado jueves, y a todos aquellos que se apuntaron en la lista para contribuir con nuestro DPTO. Gracias también a los padres que acompañaron a los alumnos y maestros de primaria en el paseo a Chiminike del viernes pasado. Nuestros alumnos disfrutaron mucho y la actividad tuvo mucho éxito.
ALMUERZO ECO AMIGABLE: Dos eventos darán inicio a los proyectos de reciclaje de la escuela en esta semana. Los alumnos de la clase AP Ciencias Ambientales de Ms. Christina Agurcia estarán impartiendo charlas para los alumnos desde PreK hasta 9no grado. El segundo evento es un almuerzo eco amigable que se llevara a cabo el jueves 25 de agosto. Favor aliente a su hijo a traer un almuerzo eco amigable el jueves. VISITA DE LA UNIVERSIDAD DE BENTLEY: El día martes, 30 de agosto, a las 10:30 a.m., la Universidad de Bentley en Massachussetts visitará la Escuela Discovery para hablar con los alumnos acerca de sus programas, becas, etc. Los alumnos de los grados 11 y 12 se reunirán con sus representantes en la biblioteca, y a todos los padres interesados se les invita a asistir. REUNIÓN CON LOS ALUMNOS QUE USAN EL BUS: Ms. Giles se reunirá con los todos los alumnos que usan el bus el lunes a las 2:45 p.m., para hablar de las reglas y expectativas.
RECORDATORIO DEL BUS PARA LOS ALUMNOS, PADRES Y MAESTROS: No es permitido a los alumnos bajarse del bus una vez que se hayan subido en la salida. Esto crea una condición insegura y agrega confusión en el proceso de salida cuando los niños están entrando y saliendo. Favor hable de esto con su hijo en casa. Gracias por su cooperación en mantener a nuestros alumnos seguros.
ACTIVIDAD DEL DÍA DE LA BANDERA DE HONDURAS: Los maestros traerán a sus alumnos al área del gimnasio a las 8:00 a.m. el jueves 1 de septiembre, para la actividad del Día de la Bandera.
RECORDATORIO – Favor asegúrese de revisar nuestros blog de maestros regularmente. Se les pide a los maestros actualizar su información semanalmente, y están haciéndolo antes de las 8:00 a.m. de cada lunes en la mañana. Favor haga sus comentarios a los maestros concernientes a los blogs – ellos le dedican mucho tiempo y esfuerzo en prepararlos, y es de mucha ayuda escuchar los comentarios de los padres y alumnos para saber que tan efectivos son como herramienta de comunicación.
