BENTLEY UNIVERSITY VISIT: On Tuesday, August 30, at 10:30 a.m., Bentley University from Massachusetts will visit Discovery School to talk with students about their academic programs, scholarships, etc. Grades 11 and 12 students will meet with the representatives in the Library, and all parents or teachers who are interested are invited to attend. EDUCATION USA PROGRAM: Melissa Zelaya, from Education USA, will visit Discovery School on Thursday, September 1, in the Library, to meet with our secondary students and parents and explain the services she offers for individual consultation on selection of university, scholarship applications, etc. Parents are encouraged to attend, according to the following schedule:

1:17 – 2:07 p.m. (Period 6) Grades 11 and 12

DR. BILL SCOTTI – Dr. Scotti, Regional Education Officer of the U.S. State Department Office of Overseas Schools, will visit Discovery School on Friday, September 8. Dr. Scotti is an avid supporter of Discovery School, our philosophy, and our teachers. He has been responsible for allocating money for our program. In additional to the annual grant that he helps us secure, he has supported us with money for such things as the Secondary Library, the Elementary Library, Consultants for our Counseling Department, and funds to support our annual Teachers’ Workshop. He has recently granted funds to develop and support our sending a teacher to attend a program for certification in Special Education Services.
HOMEROOM PARENTS: The DPTO is requesting the names and contact information for each grade’s homeroom parent. If you are interested in serving in this capacity, please contact your child’s teacher by Tuesday August 30th.
FIRE DRILL: We have scheduled a fire drill for Wednesday August 31st at 9:35 a.m. If you are on campus at that time, please move to the gym when you hear the siren.
THANK YOU! – The Onoe family has generously donated a bench, file cabinet, and large desk to the school. We appreciate this donation and will certainly put the items to good use! Thank you!
ELEMENTARY LIBRARY – If you have not already done so, please stop by the Elementary Library when you are on campus. We have received over 500 books from the State Department grant. More new books are on the way, including a selection of Spanish books. The grant also paid for the new carpets and the new shelves.
SECURITY REMINDERS – WE ARE ENFORCING STRICTER SECURITY THIS YEAR, SO PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW:
Picking up your child during the school day: If you are picking your child up during the school day, you must notify the school administration in advance. Once you arrive, please go to the Receptionist and she will give you a permission slip to give the guards. The guards have been instructed not to let students leave the campus during the school day without that permission slip until they receive clearance from the Administration.
Students arriving once the school day has started: If your child is not here at the beginning of the school day but comes later, the security guards have been instructed to notify the administration when they arrive.
New Car Stickers: We have ordered new car stickers, and once they arrive each Discovery family will receive one. After they have been distributed, no car will be allowed on campus without a sticker until it has first been cleared by the Administration. If you are having someone else pick up your child, please notify the school in advance with the name of the person, the description of the vehicle, and the license tag number. This will expedite their entrance at the gate. Without that information, they will have to wait until the car is cleared, and at dismissal time that could take quite awhile.
THE REASON FOR THE STRICT SECURITY IS TO KEEP YOUR CHILD SAFE. WE APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE AND COOPERATION WITH OUR SECURITY GUARDS.

PADRES GUÍA DE GRADO: El DPTO está solicitando los nombres y datos de contacto de los padres guías de cada grado. Si usted está interesado en servir en esta función, por favor póngase en contacto con el maestro de su hijo para el martes 30 de agosto.
Simulacro de incendio: Hemos programado un simulacro de incendio para el miércoles 31 de agosto a las 9:35 a.m. Si usted está en la escuela en ese momento, pase al gimnasio cuando escuche la sirena.

BIBLIOTECA PRIMARIA - Si no lo ha hecho, por favor pase por la Biblioteca Primaria cuando esté en el campus. Hemos recibido más de 500 libros de la subvención del Departamento de Estado. Mas libros nuevos están en camino, incluyendo una selección de libros en español. La donación también pagó por las alfombras nuevas y la estantería nueva.
RECORDATORIOS DE SEGURIDAD – ESTAMOS REENFORZANDO UNA SEGURIDAD MÁS ESTRICTA ESTE AÑO, ASI QUE POR FAVOR SIGA LAS INSTRUCCIONES DETALLADAS A CONTINUACION:
Recoger a su hijo durante el horario de clases: Si usted va a recoger a su hijo durantes el horario de clases, debe notificar a la administración de la escuela por adelantado. Una vez que haya llegado favor vaya con la recepcionista quien le dará un pase para que le entregara a los guardias. Los guardias tienen instrucciones de no permitir a los alumnos salir de la escuela en horario de clases sin el pase hasta que hayan recibido autorización de la administración.
Los alumnos que llegan después de que han iniciado las clases: Cuando su hijo no esta aquí al inicio del día escolar y llega tarde, los guardias de seguridad notificarán a la administración la hora de su llegada.
Nuevas calcomanías para los autos: Hemos ordenado nuevas calcomanías para los autos y una vez que lleguen a cada familia de Discovery recibirá una. Después de que se han distribuido, ningún auto podrá en el campus sin una calcomanía hasta que haya sido aprobado por la Administración. Si usted tiene a alguien más que recoja a su hijo, por favor notifique a la escuela por adelantado con el nombre de la persona, la descripción del vehículo, y el número de placa. Esto acelerará su entrada en la puerta. Sin esa información, tendrá que esperar hasta que el carro este autorizado, y a la hora de salida esto podría tomar bastante tiempo.
