CONFERENCES –Thank you to all parents who attended Conferences last Friday. If you were not able to join us on Friday, please contact your child’s homeroom teachers to set up an appointment for the conference and to pick up the report card and MAP results as soon as you can.
SCHOOL MASCOT - The second voting for the image of our new school mascot THE WOLF will take place THIS WEEK in the school cafeteria area. Students will be voting on three cartoon images. The winner of this election will face the photographic image that won last week in order to determine the new image of the school mascot.
UN DAY CELEBRATION – takes place on Friday, October 28. Please join us for this extraordinary day that showcases the richness of cultures that exist at Discovery.
The program will start at 9:00 a.m., followed by student rotation through all of the exhibits that will be set up by parents. This is a good chance for us to market the school, so consider inviting your friends to join you!

UNIVERSITY VISITS – Representatives from Loyola Univesity Chicago and Xavier Univeristy from Cincinatti, Ohio will be visiting our Juniors and Seniors on Tuesday, November 2.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WEDNESDAY – Students will be dismissed at 11:45 am tomorrow, Wednesday, October 26. .Teachers will meet in the Library at 12:30 p.m. to work on School Improvement and Curriculum Alignment as required by our SACS Accreditation.
WORKSHOP PREPARATIONS – Teachers are preparing for the 10th Annual Teachers’ Workshop which will be held in November. This is a wonderful tradition that enables us to reach out to the educational community in the country. During this 2-day event, approximately 300 teachers from throughout Honduras will join us to share and learn together.
HAVE LUNCH WITH YOUR ELEMENTARY STUDENT – The School Cafeteria wants to invite all the Elementary Parents to come and have lunch with their child(ren) on Friday, November 4. On this day, the adult-size meal will be offered for the child-size price! If you have any questions, contact Ms. Martha in the cafeteria or Ms. Cristiana.
Discovery’s New Performance Stage
The Discovery School is building a new stage on top of and growing out of the existing stage. It will be 1 meter high and 7 meters wide, complete with a backstage area, curtains, and lights. This is very exciting as we move forward toward excellence and providing our students with fantastic opportunities, such as drama productions. The design will start in the next few days, and will consist of a permanent cement portion and removable wooden extensions.
The drama department, headed by Mr. Fenn, has already raised almost L.10,000 and they have had more than L.17,000 donated in materials, services, and discounts. The lighting system and curtains (tarps) have been ordered (from the States) and will arrive in the next few weeks. Thank you to all who have helped so far, and we need the help of the entire school community to raise the rest of the funds. One way you can get involved is through the “Buy A Piece of the Stage!” Program (see below). Thanks for your help in making our dream become a reality for the school!
BUY A PIECE OF THE STAGE!
Below is a list of the “pieces” or materials we need to construct the stage and curtains and lighting. If everyone buys one piece, the whole thing gets done easily. Like my dad used to tell me, “Many hands make light work.”
What you are doing is actually reimbursing the school (because constructing a stage was not in the budget), so, do not literally buy a bag of cement or plywood, simply give the money to Mr. Fenn, who will issue you a receipt and then give the money to Belgíca in the office.

SECONDARY HONOR ROLL – As we continue to develop the rigor of our secondary program through Advanced Placement, which are university level courses, in the High School and the Pre-AP focus in the Middle School, our Discovery School students and teachers have met the challenge and continue to exceed our expectations! CONFERENCIAS - Gracias a todos los padres que asistieron a las conferencias el viernes pasado. Si no pudieron asistir el viernes, por favor póngase en contacto con los maestros guías de su hijo, tan pronto como sea posible, para hacer una cita para la conferencia y para recoger la boleta de calificaciones así como los resultados del MAP.
MASCOTA DE LA ESCUELA - La segunda votación para la imagen de la nueva mascota de la escuela, EL LOBO, se llevará a cabo esta semana en el área de cafetería. Los alumnos votarán en tres imágenes de dibujos animados. El ganador de estas elecciones se enfrentará a la imagen fotográfica, que ganó la semana pasada con el fin de determinar la nueva imagen de la mascota de la escuela.
CELEBRACIÓN DEL DÍA DE NACIONES UNIDAS - se llevará a cabo el viernes 28 de octubre. Por favor, únase a nosotros en este día extraordinario que muestra la riqueza de las culturas que existen en Discovery.
El programa iniciará a las 9:00 am, seguido por la rotación de los estudiantes a través de todas las exposiciones que serán preparadas por los padres de familia. Esta es una buena oportunidad para dar a conocer la escuela, así que considere invitar a sus amigos!

DESARROLLO PROFESIONAL MIÉRCOLES - El miércoles 26 de octubre los alumnos saldrán a las 11:45 am de mañana. Los maestros se reunirán en la Biblioteca a las 12:30 m. para trabajar en el Plan de Mejoras Escolares y Alineación Curricular como lo requiere nuestra acreditación con SACS.
PREPARACIONES PARA EL TALLER DE MAESTROS - Los maestros se están preparando para el decimo Taller de Maestros Anual, que se llevará a cabo en noviembre. Esta es una tradición maravillosa que nos permite llegar a la comunidad educativa en el país. Durante este evento de dos días, unos 300 maestros de toda Honduras se unen a nosotros para compartir y aprender juntos.
ALMUERECE CON SU ALUMNO DE PRIMARIA - La cafetería de la escuela quiere invitar a todos los padres de familia primaria que vengan a almorzar con su hijo (a) el viernes 4 de noviembre. En este día, la comida de tamaño de adulto se ofrecerá por el precio del tamaño infantil! Si usted tiene alguna pregunta, póngase en contacto con Ms. Martha en la cafetería o Ms. Cristiana.
Nuevo Escenario de Actuación de Discovery
La Escuela Discovery está construyendo un nuevo escenario sobre y fuera del escenario existente. Será de 1 metro de alto y 7 metros de ancho, con una zona atrás de escenario, cortinas y luces. Esto es muy emocionante a medida que avanzamos hacia la excelencia y podemos ofrecer a nuestros alumnos oportunidades, como ser la de producciones teatrales. El diseño se iniciará en los próximos días, y constará de una parte de cemento permanentes y extensiones de madera removibles.
El departamento de drama, dirigido por Mr. Fenn, ya ha recaudado cerca de L.10,000 y han tenido más de L.17,000 donados en materiales, servicios y descuentos. El sistema de iluminación y las cortinas (lonas) se han ordenado (de los Estados Unidos) y llegará en las próximas semanas. ¡Gracias a todos los que han ayudado hasta ahora, y necesitamos la ayuda de toda la comunidad escolar para recaudar el resto de los fondos. Una forma de involucrarse es a través del "Compre una pieza del Escenario" del programa (ver más abajo). Gracias por su ayuda en hacer nuestro sueño realidad para la escuela!

CUADRO DE HONOR SECUNDARIA - A medida que continuamos desarrollando el rigor de nuestro programa de secundaria a través de colocación avanzada, que son cursos de nivel universitario, en secundaria y el enfoque Pre-AP en la escuela secundaria, los alumnos y los maestros de Discovery School han cumplido con el desafío y continúan superando nuestras expectativas!
