OUR SCHOOL CHOIR continue to make us proud with their SUPERB performance in Saturday’s TELETON. Ms. Pamela and Ms. Norma’s dedication and professionalism in their work with our students is magnificent. Our Choir will perform this Friday, December 16 at a Christmas Concert in the Iglesia Guadalupe at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are L70 and part of the proceeds will be destined for our Choir to attend the Golden Gate Choral Festival in San Francisco, California next summer 2012. Our Choir is the first Central American and fourth Latin American Choir to be selected to attend such a prestigious event.
NEW EMPLOYEE: Beginning in January, Mr. Cesar Morga will join the Discovery School family as IT Coordinator. He will be on campus this week to familiarize himself with the layout and processes of the school.
CRIME IN THE CITY AND COUNTRY: As you probably know, criminal activity has increased dramatically over the past few weeks. This may be due to the approaching holidays, or it may be an overall trend in the country. Please exercise extreme caution and be very vigilant. Security officers recommend that if you are approached by someone who is armed, you should surrender whatever they ask for. In most cases, people remain unharmed if they do this. If, however, they attempt to drive or run away, there is a strong possibility that weapons will be used. Do not appear in public with excessive jewelry or other valuables. Be as discreet as possible and avoid drawing attention to yourself. Drive with your windows up and your doors locked. Be vigilant at stop signs and in heavy traffic where the cars are driving slowly—don’t use that time to check phone or text messages. Make yourself a ‘hard target’ – someone who does not look vulnerable.
SONG FEST – We hope all our community will be able to join us this Thursday, December 15 for our annual Song Fest. The presentations will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. We ask our students to be back in school by 5:30 p.m. We encourage parents to plan accordingly since traffic around the city is especially hectic at this hour and time of the year. Students should wear black pants or skirt, and a red, green or white top.
Following the procedure we used last year, students will sit with their homeroom teachers during the SongFest.
FOOD SALE DURING SONGFEST - The Juniors and Seniors will be selling food and baked goods before Songfest, Thursday, December 15, and we will shut down sales at 6:00 p.m. so everyone can enjoy the performances.

Thursday, November 15 is exam revision day.
Grades 6 - 8 have regular school from 8:00 - 3:00.
High school students (grades 9-12) may leave with their parents/drivers after their second exam; however they must request a dismissal pass from Ms. Carolina or Ms. Gloria.
If a student wishes to leave with another student, he/she needs to bring a note in advance from parents.
CHRISTMAS SUPPORT STAFF BASKETS : As a tradition at Discovery School, we are starting our drive for the support personnel holiday baskets. Please remind your students to send these items no later than Tuesday, December 13. Please include this information in your blogs. Their cooperation is deeply appreciated.

DISCOVERY SCHOOL COOKBOOK: The DPTO has an amazing sale of the Discovery School Cookbook, which will be on sale during the Song Fest. This will make an excellent gift for family and friends, and by purchasing, you will be supporting our DPTO. OLD XEROX COPY MACHINE – We have an old Xerox copy machine that we will dispose of in January. If you are interested in purchasing that machine, please submit a sealed bid and give it to Carolina, Receptionist, by Friday, January 13. If you want to see the copy machine, it is in the Conference Room and Carolina or Paola can show it to you.

EL CORO DE NUESTRA ESCUELA continúa haciéndonos sentir orgullosos con su DESTACADA participación en la TELETON el día sábado. La dedicación y el profesionalismo de Ms. Pamela y Ms. Norma, en el trabajo que realizan con nuestros alumnos es excelente. Nuestro coro se presentará este viernes 16 de diciembre en el Concierto de Navidad en la Iglesia Guadalupe a las 6:30 p.m. Los boletos cuestan L70 y parte de las ganancias están dirigidas para la asistencia de nuestro coro al Festival de Coros Golden Gate en San Francisco, California este verano 2012. Nuestro coro es el primer coro de Centro América y el cuarto coro Latinoamericano en ser seleccionado a asistir a tan prestigioso evento.
NUEVO EMPLEADO: a principios de enero, el Sr. Cesar Morga estará uniéndose a la familia de la Escuela Discovery como coordinador de Tecnología. El estará en la escuela esta semana para familiarizarse con nuestros procesos y sistemas.
CRIMINALIDAD EN LA CIUDAD Y EN EL PAIS: Como probablemente ustedes saben, los actos de criminalidad han incrementado en las últimas semanas. Esto puede deberse a la cercanía de las festividades, o es una tendencia general en el país. Por favor condúzcase en extrema precaución y sea cauteloso. Los oficiales de seguridad recomiendan que si a usted se le acerca alguien que está armado, debe darles todo lo que le pidan. En la mayoría de los casos, las personas no son lastimadas si hacen eso. Sin embargo, si lo que hacen es manejar rápidamente y escapar, hay una gran posibilidad que las armas sean utilizadas. No salga en público usando mucha joyería o cosas de mucho valor. Sea tan discreto como pueda y evite llamar mucho la atención. Maneje con sus ventanas cerradas y sus puertas con seguro. Esté pendiente en las señales de alto y cuando haya tráfico pesado que los autos tengan que manejar despacio-no utilice esos momentos para revisar su celular o mensajes de texto. No se haga de usted “un blanco”- alguien que se vea vulnerable.
FESTIVAL DE LA CANCION – Esperamos que toda nuestra comunidad pueda asistir este jueves 15 de diciembre para nuestro Festival Anual de la Canción. Las presentaciones darán inicio a las 6:00 p.m. en punto. Les pedimos a los alumnos estar de regreso en la escuela a las 5:30 p.m. Animamos a los padres a planificar adecuadamente ya que el trafico alrededor de la ciudad está muy ocupado a esta hora del día y en especial en esta época del año. Los alumnos deben vestir pantalones o faldas negras, y una camisa roja, verde o blanca.
Continuando con el procedimiento que se uso el año pasado, los alumnos se sentaran con sus maestros guías durante las presentaciones.
COMIDA EN VENTA DURANTE EL FESTIVAL DE LA CANCION – Los Juniors y Seniors estarán vendiendo comida y bocadillos antes del Festival, el jueves 15 de diciembre y las ventas se cerrarán a las 6:00 p.m. para que todos puedan disfrutar de las presentaciones.

El jueves 15 de noviembre es día de revisión de exámenes.
Los grados de 6 a 8 tendrán clases regulares desde las 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Los alumnos de secundaria (de 9 a 12) pueden irse con sus padres/conductores después de su segundo examen; sin embargo deben tener una pase de salida de Ms. Carolina o Ms. Gloria.
Si un alumno desea irse con otro alumno, el/ella necesita traer un nota de sus padres por adelantado.
