THANKS TO THE DPTO – The DPTO hosted Dental Hygene talks for our Elementary Students last Friday, April 13. After watching a video and reviewing some charts with “Dr. Muelitas” each student received a small bag which included a tooth brush, a small toothpaste and a small soap. Our young ones have been encouraged to brush their teeth at school after lunch and to maintain sound hygene habits! Thanks to the DPTO officers who made this happen!!
DPTO FAMILY NIGHT – The DPTO annual Family Night, JUNGLE NIGHT 2012, will take place on Friday, April 20. The DPTO is inviting our students to come dressed as their favorite animal or bring an animal mask. As usual, there will be teacher-sponsored games from 5:00-6:00 p.m., other activities from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., and BINGO organized and provided by Choir parents as a fundraiser for their upcoming trip to San Francisco from 7:00-8:00 p.m. We encourage our school family to attend and support both the DPTO and Choir in their fundraising efforts!
Family Fun Fishing! This year on Family Fun Night the Art Room will be open for family art-making. Parents--please come with your children of all ages and join in the fun! The result will be an artistic creation that every member of the family has contributed to. You will have the opportunity to experiment with Gyotaku fish prints and other printing techniques. (Allow 10-20 minutes.) See you Friday night for Art FUN with Mrs. Campbell!

EARTH DAY CELEBRATION - The tenth grade, Environmental Science students will be hosting the Earth Day celebration on Friday, April 20, during snack time. There will be activities to teach our students how to conserve resources, thereby protecting our planet. Elementary students will participate in several activities, after they have eaten their snack. Secondary students will be welcomed to do the activities as well during their snack time.
DRESS CODE - Reminder to all parents and requesting support in this matter: All students should be appropriately dressed in a manner that promotes academic seriousness. The following is NOT ACCEPTABLE, among others (please refer to the Parent/Student Handbook, page 30 and 31):
- Drug, alcohol or tobacco related clothing, jewelry or paraphernalia
- Clothing promoting sex, racism, violence or profanity
- Clothing which, because of its briefness or tightness of fit is deemed distracting to the academic atmosphere
- Strapless tops or tops with either shoulder bare
- Shower-type flip-flops
- Shorts or skirts that are shorter than mid-thigh
The school stresses the avoidance of extremes and reserves the right to request a student to change into more appropriate attire or call home to acquire more suitable dress.

REMEDIAL SUMMER SCHOOL – In order to address the needs of some of our students in Grades 5 - 11 who are struggling academically and to facilitate success in the 2012-2013 school year, we are developing a Summer School program. This will NOT be a preparation or substitution for the recuperation examinations, but rather a means to remediate skills and foundation that are lacking. At the current time, we are planning on offering Math and Language Arts remediation. The Summer School will be mandatory for some students, based on their grade in the class, MAP scores, and teacher recommendations, and optional for others. More information will be given soon concerning costs and dates. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Gloria Palacios or Ms. Debra Giles.

GRACIAS AL DPTO – El DPTO organizó charlas de Higiene Dental para nuestros alumnos de Primaria el pasado viernes 13 de abril. Después de ver un video y revisar algunas graficas con el “Dr. Muelitas” cada alumno recibió un pequeña bolsa que contenía un cepillo de dientes, una pasta de dientes pequeña y un jabón pequeño. Se ha animado a nuestros pequeños a lavarse los dientes en la escuela después de almuerzo y a mantener buenos hábitos de higiene! Gracias a los oficiales del DPTO que hicieron esto posible!!
NOCHE DE FAMILIA DEL DPTO – La tradicional Noche de Familia del DPTO, NOCHE DE SELVA 2012, será el viernes 20 de abril. El DPTO está invitando a que nuestros alumnos vengan vestidos de su animal favorito o traigan una máscara de un animal. Como siempre habrá juegos organizados por los maestros de 5:00-6:00 p.m., otras actividades de 6:00-7:00 p.m., y un BINGO organizado y provisto por los padres del Coro como recolección de fondos para su viaje a San Francisco de 7:00-8:00 p.m. Animamos a nuestra comunidad escolar a asistir y apoyar tanto al DPTO como al Coro en sus esfuerzos de recolección de fondos!
Pesca Divertida en Familia! Este año en la Noche de Familia el aula de Arte estará abierta para hacer arte en familia. Padres—por favor vengan con sus hijos de todas las edades y acompáñennos a la diversión! El resultado será una creación artística para la cual cada miembro de la familia haya contribuido. Tendrá la oportunidad de experimentar con las impresiones de peces Gyotaku y otras técnicas. (Permitir 10 a 20 minutos.) Lo veremos el viernes en la noche para Arte Divertido con Mrs. Campbell!

CELEBRACION DEL DÍA DE LA TIERRA – Los alumnos de la clase de Ciencias Ambientales de 10mo grado, están organizando la celebración del Día de la Tierra el viernes 20 de abril, durante la hora de receso. Habrá actividades para enseñar a nuestros alumnos como preservar los recursos, y así proteger el planeta. Los alumnos de primaria participarán en varias actividades, después que hayan comido su merienda. Los alumnos de secundaria son bienvenidos a participar en las actividades durante su hora de receso.
CODIGO DE VESTIR - Recordatorio a todos los padres y solicitud de ayuda en esto:
Todos los alumnos deben vestir de manera apropiada de modo que promueva la seriedad académica. Los siguientes NO SON ACEPTABLES, entre otros (por favor lea el Manual de Padres/Maestros, pagina 30 y 31):
- Ropa, joyería o pertenencias con temas de drogas, alcohol y tabaco.
- Vestimenta que promueva el sexo, racismo, violencia o profanidad.
- Vestimenta que, por ser muy corta o pegada sea considerada distracción a la atmosfera académica.
- Blusas sin tirantes o camisas sin alguno o ambos hombros.
- Sandalias tipo chancletas de baño.
- Pantalones cortos o faldas que sean más cortos de la mitad de la pierna.
La escuela hace hincapié en evitar los extremos y reserva el derecho de solicitar a un alumno para cambiar su atuendo a más apropiado o "llamar a su casa" para adquirir una vestimenta más adecuada.

ESCUELA DE VERANO - A fin de atender las necesidades de algunos de nuestros alumnos en los grados 5 - 11 que luchan académicamente y para facilitar el éxito en el año escolar 2012-2013, estamos desarrollando un programa de Escuela de Verano. Esta NO será una preparación o sustitución para los exámenes de recuperación, sino un medio para reforzar las habilidades y fundamentos que faltan. En este momento, estamos planeando ofrecer reforzamientos de Lenguaje y Matemáticas. La escuela de verano será obligatoria para algunos alumnos, en función de la nota en la clase, resultados de MAP y las recomendaciones del maestro y opcional para los demás. Pronto se dará más información en cuanto a los costos y las fechas. Si tienes alguna pregunta, póngase en contacto con Ms. Gloria Palacios o Ms. Debra Giles.
