HONDURAN INDEPENDENCE MONTH – As you know, Honduran Independence is celebrated in
September. There will be an all-school assembly on Monday, September 2, from
8:00 to 8:15 a.m. to launch the month-long recognition and raise the flag.
INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION – Next Thursday, September 12, the school will celebrate the Honduran
Independence Day. Homeroom Teachers will organize a typical Honduran
snack/breakfast with their classrooms with contributions from their students.
Teachers and staff will end their school day at 12:30 p.m., so we ask you to
arrange pick up for your child(ren) before then.This is an 11:45 a.m. dismissal
day for our students. Teachers and staff will leave at 12:30 p.m., so we ask
that you arrange for your child(ren) to be picked up promptly.
PHOTO SHOOT FOR THE NEW SCHOOL WEB PAGE – As we are getting ready to launch the school’s
new website, children whose parents have already signed a waiver and given
permission to the school for pictures to be taken will be asked to collaborate
with this on Wednesday, September 4. If you received an email with this
reminder, please make sure that your child comes prepared for the photo shoot
on that day. If you have not signed a waiver, and would like your child to be
included, please contact Ms. Carolina at dssecretary@discoveryschool.edu.hn and a copy of the form will be emailed to you
for you to sign and return before Wednesday.
MIDTERM AND MIDTERM REPORTS – It is hard to believe that the midterm for
the first quarter is this Friday! Midterm Reports will be sent home on
Thursday, September 12.
FIRE DRILL – We will have our
first fire drill on Tuesday, September 10, at 9:00 a.m. If you are on
campus when the alarm sounds, please go to the gym. We always announce the
first fire drill so the teachers can prepare their students—especially our
youngest students—and help them understand the process so they aren’t
frightened. After this drill, all of the others will be unannounced.
COMMUNITY SERVICE CLUB - For more than 10 years, Discovery teachers and parents
have been visiting a group of children from Nuestros Pequenos
Hermanos' orphanage. Now, we would like to open this opportunity for
our secondary students (Grades 6-12) to be involved. To celebrate
Children's Day, a group from the school visited the orphanage on Sunday,
September 1. The club will then continue with monthly visits to the
orphanage throughout the school year. Any interested secondary student is
invited to attend. Parents may email Mrs. Christina Agurcia for more

LIBRARIAN – For the past 4 months, Mr. Carlos Echeverria has
been participating in the “Diplomado in Librarianship” offered by Asociación de
Bibliotecarios y Documentalistas de Honduras (ABIDH) and the Instituto Hondureño de Cultura
Interamericana (IHCI). He has been taking courses in the following topics:
Digital Libraries, Dewey Decimal System, Foundations of Library, Restoring
Library Books, Serial Publications, and Search Strategies using these new
skills. This is another school effort in keeping our school current and
updated, utilizing our resources the best way possible.
FROM THE COUNSELOR’S OFFICE – Ms. Marilis will meet with our Juniors and Seniors for the SCAD
University Visit on Monday, September 2, at 11:00 a.m. Following this they will
receive the Bentley University Visit at 12:00 noon.
On Thursday, September 5 our Juniors and Seniors will
attend the CIS College Tour at the American School from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Please

DE HONDURAS – Como
saben, el Día de la Independencia Hondureña se celebra en septiembre. Habrá una
asamblea de toda la escuela el lunes 2 de septiembre, de 8:00 a 8:15 a.m. para
dar inicio a las festividades patrias y
para izar la bandera.
CELEBRACIÓN DEL DÍA
DE LA INDEPENDENCIA – El próximo jueves 12 de septiembre, la escuela celebrará
el Día de la Independencia. Los maestros guías organizarán un
desayuno/bocadillos en sus aulas con las contribuciones de los alumnos. Los
maestros y el personal terminarán su día laboral a las 12:30m., así que les
solicitamos recoger a su(s) hijo(s) antes de esa hora. Este día la salida es a
las 11:45 a.m. para los alumnos. Los maestros y el personal saldrán a las 12:30
m., por lo que les solicitamos sean puntuales al recoger a sus hijos.

LA NUEVA PAGINA WEB DE LA ESCUELA – Debido a que nos estamos preparando para el
lanzamiento de la nueva página web de la escuela, los alumnos cuyos padres ya
firmaron el formulario y han dado permiso que les tomen fotografías a sus hijos
se les solicitará su colaboración con esto el día miércoles 4 de septiembre. Si
recibió un correo electrónico recordándole, por favor asegúrese que su hijo(a)
venga preparado para la toma de fotos ese día. Si usted no ha firmado un
permiso, y quiere que se incluya a su hijo(a), por favor comuníquese con Ms. Carolina
a dssecretary@discoveryschool.edu.hn y se le enviará una
copia del formulario para que lo firme y lo envíe de regreso antes del
miércoles.
MEDIO PERIODO Y
REPORTES DE MEDIO PERIODO – Es difícil creer que el medio periodo del
primer parcial es este viernes! Los reportes de medio periodo se enviarán el
jueves 12 de septiembre.
SIMULACRO DE FUEGO – Tendremos nuestro
primer simulacro de fuego el martes 10 de septiembre, a las 9:00a.m. Si usted está en la escuela cuando la alarma se
active, por favor diríjase al gimnasio. Siempre anunciamos el primer simulacro
de incendios para que los maestros preparen a sus alumnos—especialmente a los
más pequeños—y les ayudemos a entender el proceso para que no sientan temor.
Después de este simulacro, todos los demás serán sin anunciarse.
CLUB DE SERVICIO
COMUNITARIO – Por
más de 10 años, los maestros y padres de Discovery han visitado a un grupo de
niños del Orfanato Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos. Ahora, queremos abrir esta
oportunidad para que nuestros alumnos de secundaria (de 6-12 grados) se
involucren. Para celebrar el Día del Niño, un grupo de la escuela visitó el
orfanato el día domingo 1 de septiembre. Después el club continuará
visitándolos continuamente, una vez al mes durante todo el año. Cualquier
alumno de secundaria interesado, está invitado a asistir. Para obtener mayor

BIBLIOTECARIO – Durante los últimos 4
meses, Mr. Carlos Echeverria ha participado en un “Diplomado en
Bibliotecología” ofrecido por la Asociación de Bibliotecarios y Documentalistas
de Honduras (ABIDH) y el Instituto Hondureño de Cultura Interamericana (IHCI).
Ha estado recibiendo clases sobre los siguientes temas: Bibliotecas Digitales,
Sistema Decimal Dewey, Fundamentos de Biblioteca, Restauración de Libros de la
Biblioteca, Publicaciones en Serie, y Búsquedas y Estrategias utilizando estas
nuevas habilidades. Este es otro esfuerzo de mantener nuestra escuela
actualizada y al día, utilizando nuestros recursos de las mejores maneras
posibles.

Marilis se reunirá con nuestros Juniors y Seniors para la visita de la
Universidad de SCAD el día lunes 2 de septiembre, a las 11:00 a.m. A
continuación recibirán la visita de la Universidad de Bentley a las 12:00 m. El día jueves 5 de septiembre
nuestros Juniors y Seniors asistirán al Tour de Universidades CIS en la Escuela
