DISMISSAL PROCEDURES EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 2014
As a responsible
educational community, the safety of our students (and parents) always comes
first. Our concerns stem out of 1) external security and control of access to
the school, and 2) the dangers inside the school when parents drive and pass
each other in the parking lot. Keeping
that in mind, we have established the need to modify the procedures during the
dismissal of our students at 3:00 p.m. Please read these carefully, and take
note of the changes. We ask that you make the necessary adjustments, and we
know we can count on your support in making our dismissal run smoother and
safer. It is possible that we will make further minor adjustments, but for this
week, we will stay with the following procedure for stacking cars, loading, and
moving through the school.
Entrance to the school –
We will allow a limited number of cars at a time in a single driving
line into our school campus. This decision was made in order to prevent the
security liability that entails having the entrance gates open at all times. If
you wish to arrive before 3:00 p.m. you may park in the designated parking
spaces in the middle and lower areas of the parking lot. Cars that stop in the
yellow, striped loading zone must 1) form a single line, and 2) have a driver
present in the vehicle at all times. These cars may be asked to move and/or
park as circumstances determine.
Exiting the school –
Vehicles will be allowed to leave the school in a single line, limiting the
number of cars leaving at a time. This will enable the teachers and guards to
check the vehicles and make sure our students are leaving with the adequate
permissions.
Permissions – Students
leaving the school with other adults (i.e. on play dates) will need a pass from
the office. Written consent from parents must be emailed or turned into the
office (Ms. Carolina) before 2:00 p.m. Students will not be allowed to
leave with other adults without written consent and with our necessary pass. Permissions
via phone will only be granted in case of emergency.
Loading Zones – The areas
marked with the yellow stripes in front of the administration building and the
gym are areas destined for students to aboard their vehicles, and should not be
used for parking or extended waiting. If a student is not in the established
dismissal areas, or not yet ready to board the vehicle, the driver of the
vehicle will be asked to circle the parking lot though level 3 (in the area
between the two gates on the top level) or to park if there is space in level 2
(the middle areas of the parking lot).
Awaiting Vehicles – No
vehicle should be left unattended during dismissal time, unless it is properly
parked in a parking space.
Driving Etiquette - It is
of outmost importance that the following rules be observed:
- Do not pass other vehicles unless directed by a staff member or guard;
- Wait patiently as the teachers on duty identify and dismiss the students, and as the students board their vehicles;
- Abstain from using a vehicle’s horn as communication or a signal; it is for warnings!
- Follow the instructions the teachers on duty direct during dismissal;
- Follow the instructions given during dismissal time (parents are responsible for their drivers).
- Park in the designated areas, and be willing to move to the middle area of level 2, if there is a parking space available.
Teachers’ Duties – Each
teacher has specific assignments during the dismissal of students. Teachers
will be proactive in calling the students to be ready to board their vehicles,
ensuring that the necessary passes have been granted, and watching over their
safety at all times.
We thank you in
advance for your support in making the dismissal time as safe as we can for our
students. Safe driving is a duty of good citizenship, which we attempt to teach
and model here.

FROM THE
COUNSELOR’S OFFICE - Scholastic Book Club leaflets are out.
This is an optional activity offered by the school,
because we know you want to motivate your child to read at home. With your purchase, our library will accumulate
points to redeem more books for the benefit of your children in our
school. The due date to purchase the
books online is Sep.12. The books will arrive to the school in one single
delivery, and we will distribute them to the students according to their orders,
approximately three weeks after the purchase due date.

MIDTERM AND
PROGRESS REPORTS – This Friday, September 5 marks the
middle of the first grading period. Midterm Progress Reports will be sent next
Friday, September 12.
DESAYUNO
CATRACHO
– To celebrate Honduran Independence, there will be a Pot Luck Style “Desayuno
Catracho” in each classroom on Friday, September 12, from 8:00 to 8:50 a.m. We
ask our parents to help us organize this, and contribute with healthy
typical foods. Honduran cultural and festive activities will follow the
breakfast. We encourage our students to come dressed in a Honduran outfit that
day. We also want to remind parents that this is an early dismissal day (11:45
a.m.) and that the following Monday and Tuesday are holidays!
NOCHE
BENEFICIOSA – Our Seniors would like to invite you to a Noche
Beneficiosa at Pizza Hut, Blvd. Juan Pablo II (next to Denny's), on Friday,
September 5th, 2014; from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The proceeds will be
for the Social Community Service.
PROCEDIMIENTOS DE SALIDA
EFECTIVOS A PARTIR DEL 1 DE SEPTIEMBRE, 2014
Como una comunidad educativa responsable, la seguridad de
nuestros alumnos (y padres) siempre es primero. Nuestras preocupaciones se
basan en 1) seguridad externa y control de acceso a la escuela, y 2) los
peligros dentro de la escuela cuando los padres conducen y se rebasan unos a
otros en el estacionamiento. Manteniendo esto en mente, hemos establecido la
necesidad de modificar los procedimientos durante la salida de nuestros alumnos
a las 3:00 p.m. Favor lea cuidadosamente, y tome nota de los cambios. Le
pedimos que haga los cambios necesarios para que nuestro proceso de salida sea más
ordenado y seguro. Es probable que más adelante hagamos algunos cambios
menores, pero por esta semana, seguiremos el siguiente procedimiento para la
llegada de los vehículos, subida de alumnos, y movimientos dentro de la
escuela.
Entrada a la escuela - Permitiremos un número limitado de vehículos al
mismo tiempo en una fila sencilla adentro de las instalaciones. Esta decisión
se tomó como manera de prevenir la responsabilidad en la seguridad que implica
tener el portón de entrada abierto todo el tiempo. Si desea llegar antes de las
3:00 p.m. puede venir y estacionarse en las áreas asignadas en el área de en
medio y bajas del estacionamiento. Los vehículos que se detengan en la zona de líneas
amarillas deben 1) formar una línea sencilla, y 2) permanecer el conductor en
todo tiempo. A estos vehículos se les puede pedir que se muevan y/o estacionen según
lo determinen las circunstancias.
Salida de la escuela – Se permitirá la salida de los vehículos
de la escuela en una línea sencilla, limitando el número de vehículos que salen
en un momento. Esto permitirá a los maestros y guardias a revisar los vehículos
y asegurarse que nuestros alumnos salgan con los permisos requeridos.
Permisos - Los alumnos que
salen de la escuela con otros adultos (ej. Jugar en casa de compañeros)
necesitarán un pase de la oficina. Un permiso por escrito de los padres debe
ser enviado por correo electrónico o
entregado a la oficina (Ms. Carolina) antes de las 2:00 p.m. A los alumnos no
se les permitirá irse con otro adulto sin el permiso por escrito o sin el pase
necesario. Los permisos otorgados por teléfono solo serán permitidos en
casos de emergencia.
Zonas de subida/bajada - Las áreas marcadas con las líneas amarillas
en frente del edificio de administración y el gimnasio son destinadas para que
los alumnos suban o bajen de sus vehículos, y no deben ser usados como
estacionamiento o área de espera prolongada. Si un alumno no está en el área
establecida de salida, o no está listo para subirse al vehículo, se le
solicitará al conductor que de la vuelta en el estacionamiento a través del
nivel 3 (el área entre los dos portones en el nivel superior) o que se
estacione en el nivel 2 (área de en medio del estacionamiento).
Vehículos que esperan – Ningún vehículo
debe quedar desatendido durante la hora de salida, a menos que este estacionado
en un espacio de estacionamiento.
Etiqueta al conducir – Es de suma importancia que las
siguientes reglas sean observadas:
a.
No rebasar a otros vehículos a menos que sea dirigido por
un miembro del personal o un guardia;
b.
Esperar pacientemente mientras los maestros encargados
identifiquen y llamen a los alumnos, y mientras los alumnos se suben a los vehículos;
c.
Abstenerse de usar la bocina cómo medio de comunicación;
es un medio de advertencia!
d.
Seguir las instrucciones de los maestros que están encargados
de las salida;
e.
Seguir las instrucciones dadas durante la hora de salida
(los padres son responsables por sus conductores).
f.
Estacionarse en las áreas asignadas, y estar dispuestos a
moverse al área del nivel 2, si hay espacio disponible.
Responsabilidades de los maestros - Cada maestro tiene asignaciones específicas
durante la hora de salida de los alumnos. Los maestros serán proactivos
llamando a los alumnos para que estén listos para subirse a sus vehículos, asegurándose
que tengan los pases necesarios, y vigilantes a la seguridad en todo momento.
Les agradecemos anticipadamente por su apoyo para que el
proceso de la hora de salida sea lo más seguro posible para nuestros alumnos.
Conducir con cuidado es una responsabilidad de un buen ciudadano, lo cual
enseñamos y mostramos como ejemplo en la escuela.
Si tiene alguna pregunta, no dude en comunicarse con la administración
de la escuela.
DESDE LA OFICINA DE CONSEJERIA – Los panfletos del
Club de Libros de Scholastic ya salieron. Esta es una actividad opcional
ofrecida por la escuela, ya que sabemos
que desea motivar a su hijo a leer en casa. Con su compra, nuestra
biblioteca acumulará puntos para redimir más libros, para el beneficio de sus
hijos en la escuela. La fecha límite para la compra de libros en línea es el 12
de septiembre. Los libros llegarán a la escuela en un solo envío, y nosotros
los distribuiremos a los alumnos según sus ordenes, aproximadamente tres
semanas después de la fecha límite.

REPORTES DE MEDIO PERIODO Y DE PROGRESO – Este viernes 5 de septiembre estamos en medio de nuestro primer periodo.
Los reportes de medio periodo se enviarán a casa el próximo viernes 12 de
septiembre.
DESAYUNO CATRACHO - Para celebrar la Independencia de Honduras,
tendremos un “Desayuno Catracho” al estilo bufet, en cada aula el día viernes
12 de septiembre, desde las 8:00 a 8:50 a.m. Les pedimos a los padres nos
ayuden a organizarlo, y contribuir con comidas típicas saludables.
Actividades culturales y festividades de Honduras, se realizarán después del
desayuno. Animamos a los alumnos a que vengan vestidos con trajes típicos ese día.
También queremos recordarles a los padres que ese día los alumnos saldrán
temprano (11:45 a.m.) y que el lunes y martes siguientes son días feriados!
NOCHE BENEFICIOSA – Nuestros Seniors desean invitarlo a una Noche Beneficiosa en
Pizza Hut, Blvd. Juan Pablo II (a la par de Denny´s), el viernes 5 de
septiembre, 2014; desde las 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Los fondos recaudados son a
beneficio del Trabajo Educativo Social.
