Our Fall General Assembly will take place this Saturday, September 27 at 9:00

MAP FALL TESTING
SESSION
–We continue with week 2 of our fall testing session. Your cooperation in
making sure your child does not miss school on the days we have the tests is
greatly appreciated.

TRACK
AND FIELD - A group of 25 Secondary students will
travel to San Pedro Sula to represent the school in the annual ABSH Track &
Field Competition. The event will take place October 2 and 3. We wish them good
luck. Go Wolves!!!

AUDITORIA DE EMTECH – Esta semana nuestra

SESION DE EXAMENES MAP – Continuamos con la

ATLETISMO – Un grupo de 25 alumnos de secundaria viajarán a San
Pedro Sula para representar a la escuela en la Competencia Anual de Atletismo

Letter from the Board of Directors
Dear Discovery School Friends,
I wish to extend a warm welcome to our Discovery families,
teachers and staff. This promises to be
an incredible year, as we reach our 20th anniversary, under the
leadership of our new Head of School, Dr. John J. Ketterer. The size of school
can be misleading to outsiders, as it does not reflect well, our maturity as a
community, and the manner how we come together in times of celebration, but
also in times of threat. I feel
fortunate and proud to be a part of such a community. During last year, we
embarked on a search for the new Head of School, and the community once again
came together, and provided trust and support to the Board of Directors and
Search Committee to accomplish this critical job. We spent many days reviewing resumes and
interviewing candidates, until we finally found the right fit for our school in
Dr. Ketterer.
Some highlights on Dr. Ketterer.
He holds a B.A. in English, M.A. in English/Education, M.Ed. in
Educational Administration, and Ed.D. in Administration and Instructional
Leadership, and has over 40 years of experience in education. He worked in Peru
and Nicaragua as High School Administrator, and in Paraguay and Mexico as Head
of School. He then moved back to the United States and joined Jacksonville
State University, where he became a tenured Professor and Executive Director of
International House and Programs. As he considered last year coming back to the
Latin America region, we were very fortunate that he decided to come to our
school for his next career move. Dr.
Ketterer is joined by his wife Ivania, who is originally from Nicaragua. Dr. Ketterer is a fluent Spanish speaker.
I would like to ask all the Discovery School community to
provide full support to Dr. Ketterer as he transitions into life in Honduras
and our school. Transitions typically
can last one to three years, and it will depend on the support we offer Dr.
Ketterer, how quickly we will move through this phase. Each of us in our roles
can help Dr. and Mrs. Ketterer. The
Board of Directors, for example, will provide support through good Governance,
effective Committee work, and help outside school. Please show your support for
Dr. Ketterer and the school, and let’s make this next school year, our 20th
anniversary, our best ever.

de la Escuela Discovery,
Deseo extender a
todas nuestras familias, maestros y personal de Discovery una calurosa
bienvenida. Este año promete ser un año increíble, ya que nos acercamos a
nuestro 20vo aniversario, bajo el liderazgo de nuestro nuevo Rector,
Dr. John J. Ketterer. El tamaño de la escuela es engañosa para las personas, y
no refleja bien nuestra madurez como
comunidad, y la manera en cómo trabajamos juntos en tiempos de celebración, y
en tiempos de amenaza. Me siento afortunada y orgullosa de ser parte de esta
comunidad. Durante el año pasado, mientras nos embarcamos en la búsqueda de un
nuevo rector, nuevamente la comunidad se unió, y mostró apoyo y confianza a la
Junta Directiva y al Comité de Búsqueda para el logro de tan delicada función.
Pasamos muchos días revisando currículos y entrevistando candidatos, hasta que
finalmente encontramos a la persona perfecta para nuestra escuela, el Dr.
Ketterer.
Algunos puntos
destacados del Dr. Ketterer. Tiene una Licenciatura en Inglés, Maestría en Inglés/Educación,
Maestría en Administración Educacional, y Doctorado en Educación, en
Administración y Liderazgo Educativo, tiene más de 40 años de experiencia en
educación. Ha trabajado en Perú y Nicaragua como Administrador de Secundaria, y
en Paraguay y México como Rector. Luego regresó a Estados Unidos y trabajó en
la Universidad Estatal de Jacksonville donde se desempeño como Catedrático y
Director Ejecutivo del Programa Internacional. Ya que el año anterior
consideraba regresar a la región Latinoamericana, fuimos afortunados que su
siguiente decisión profesional fuese venir a nuestra escuela. Le acompaña su
esposa Ivania, quien es originaria de Nicaragua. Dr. Ketterer habla español
fluido.
Me gustaría
pedirle a toda la comunidad de la Escuela Discovery que muestren su completo
apoyo al Dr. Ketterer en su transición a la vida en Honduras y en nuestra
escuela. Las transiciones normalmente duran de uno a tres años, y dependerá del
apoyo que le ofrezcamos, de que tan rápido pase esta fase. Cada uno de nosotros
en nuestros papeles podemos ayudar al Dr. y a la Sra. Ketterer. La Junta
Directiva por ejemplo, proporcionará su apoyo mediante una buena
administración, trabajo efectivo de los Comités, y ayuda fuera de la escuela.
Favor muestre su apoyo para Dr. Ketterer y la escuela, y hagamos que este

is concluded, the community will be invited to participate in a survey, the
results of which will be included in the final report.

As you probably already know, emTech
Consulting is working with your school to assess the current use of
technology for teaching and learning and to help develop a plan for additional
technology integration. This technology audit includes a two-day site visit by
an emTech team on
September 24-26, 2014.
We will be doing the site visit: Dr. Anna C. McFadden and Dr. Barrie Jo Price

You will see us around campus during the site visit. Dr. Ketterer will arrange a schedule of
individual or small group meetings with one of us so we can ask a few
structured questions as well as entertaining open-ended discussions. The
administrative team will have us set up so you can come to these meetings with
us as scheduled. Our apologies in advance if we add to your already busy days,
but we do appreciate any time you can give us by coming for these meetings. A
schedule has been posted for each day. Our workspace(s) will be:

One of us will spend time reviewing the facilities, equipment and such,
so you will also see one of us roaming the hallways while the other one has
structured meetings. We may stop you to ask questions or pop into your

to students and, in general observe, when we do not have scheduled meetings. Do
not hesitate to stop us in the hallway or chat; we enjoy working with all of
you in the school community!

Consulorias en la aplicacion de la tecnologia
Estimada comunidad escolar,
Como seguramente ya saben, Consultorías
emTech está trabajando con su escuela para evaluar el uso actual de la
tecnología para enseñar y aprender y como desarrollar un plan para la futura integración
de la tecnología. Esta auditoría de tecnología incluye una visita de dos días
por el equipo emTech el 24-26 de septiembre, 2014.
