EBSCO
– EBSCO is an informational data base that offers
library resources to customers in academic, medical, K–12, public library, law,
corporate, and government markets. Its products include EBSCONET, a complete
e-resource management system, and EBSCOhost, which supplies a fee-based online
research service with 375 full-text databases, a collection of 600,000-plus
ebooks, subject indexes, point-of-care medical references, and an array of
historical digital archives.
Discovery School has acquired the license
for these services, which are now available to our teachers,
parents and students. To log in, please use the user name discovery, and the password honduras. Please feel free to explore
this website and become familiarized with its amazing resources! The link to
log on to EBSCO is https://search.ebscohost.com/ The first thing you will notice is that the
website is organized in an age-appropriate way.
It is also filtered so that inappropriate sites will not be available.
The EBSCO database is one of the largest of
its kind in the world, and will be found as a resource at all U.S.
universities, as a research aide. Our
teachers will be training students to use it. It is also licensed for community
use (it has access to many magazines and newspapers), so you might want your
child to give you some training. You can
also train yourself, in English or in Spanish, by signing in and clicking on
“EBSCO Support” at the bottom of the page.
Then, you will find tutorials to assist you in conducting your own
research and reading.
Soon, we will have the EBSCO site posted
under “Parent Resources” on the DS Homepage, along with other resources online
available through the national university, UNAH. Until then, you can access the page as
described above.
ADVANCED
VISIT – The Schools has worked out a date with
AdvancED for the Fall Re-accreditation visit. The AdvancED Team will be here
from Sunday, October 18 to Thursday, October 22. The school appreciates
your hard work in the committees that have been formed for our recertification.
ABSH
Language Arts Festival – Our school participated
last Saturday in the annual ABSH Language Arts festival, this year held at the
International School of Tegucigalpa. Our students did a wonderful job
representing the school! We want to thank all the teachers who worked hard with
our students, giving up their free time to prepare them for the speech and
spelling competitions. Congratulations to all our students and especially to
Laura Toncel, who won second place in Ortografía.
MIDTERM
AND PROGRESS REPORTS –Midterm Reports will be sent
home this Friday, February 13.

CONFERENCE IN SAN FRANCISCO – Dr. Ketterer is
attending the annual international educators’ conference from February 6 to
February 13. In
his absence, please refer any special circumstance to each area administrator.
VALENTINE’S
DAY SENIORS ACTIVITIES – Our seniors will be
distributing pre-ordered candy grams, roses and love/friendship letters for
this Friday, February 13. They last day to pre-order these Valentine goodies is
next Wednesday, February 11. They will also have a bake sale and wedding chapel
that day during recess.

COCHINOS - SWITCHED
TO TELA– The Cayos Cochinos trip of the 12th grade has been
cancelled because of an incompatibility of the dates for the trip. So, as part of TES, Trabajo Educativo Social,
the 12th graders will be going to Tela on March 2 to 7 to assist the community
of Garífunas. They are in need of
school materials, so the Senior class has decided to conduct a school supply
drive. They would appreciate any and all donations but wish to ask the
following classes that each student contributes the following:
Nursery and Kinder – I pack of 12 colored markers
1st and 2nd – 2
pencil sharpeners
3rd and 4th – 1 pack of 12 colored pencils
5th – 2 scissors
6th to 8th – 2 normal sized composition notebooks
9th – 1 blue, black and red pen
10th – 1 pack of 12 pencils and two erasers
11th – 4 UHU glue sticks
WE WOULD ALSO GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY
SPANISH BOOK DONATIONS. Please help not only the Senior class, but also the
lovely people in Tela.

VISITA DE ADVANCED – La escuela ha concretado una fecha con AdvancED
para la visita de re-acreditación en el otoño. El equipo de AdvancED estará aquí
desde el domingo 18 de octubre hasta el jueves 22 de octubre. La escuela
agradece su arduo trabajo en los comités que se han formado para nuestra re
certificación.
Festival ABSH de Lenguaje y Literatura – El sábado pasado nuestra escuela participó en el
Festival Anual ABSH de Lenguaje y Literatura, que este año se realizó en la
Escuela Internacional de Tegucigalpa. Nuestros alumnos representaron muy bien a
nuestra escuela! Queremos agradecer a todos los maestros que trabajaron con
nuestros alumnos, utilizando su tiempo libre para prepararlos para las
competencias de oratoria y deletreo. Felicidades a todos nuestros alumnos
especialmente a Laura Toncel, quien obtuvo segundo lugar en Ortografía.
REPORTES DE PROGRESO Y MEDIO PERIODO – Los reportes de medio periodo serán enviados a
casa este viernes 13 de febrero.
CONFERENCIA AAIE EN SAN FRANCISCO – Dr. Ketterer asistirá a la Conferencia Internacional
Anual de Educadores desde el 6 al 13 de febrero. En su ausencia, favor referir
cualquier circunstancia especial a cada administrador de área.
ACTIVIDAD DE LOS SENIORS PARA SAN
VALENTIN – Nuestros Seniors
estarán distribuyendo formularios para pre-ordenar dulces, rosas y cartas de
amor/amistad para el viernes 13 de febrero. El último día para ordenar estos detalles de San Valentín
es el próximo miércoles 11 de febrero. También tendrán una venta de pasteles y
capilla de matrimonio ese día durante el recreo.

COCHINOS – SE CAMBIO A TELA – El viaje
a Cayos Cochinos del 12vo grado ha sido cancelado por incompatibilidad en las
