DISCOVERY SCHOOL MONDAY MEMO

A PERSONAL NOTE:  My wife, Ivania, and I would like to thank the community for the expressions of condolence that we have received on the passing of my father.  I am very proud that the community carried on successfully with the Spring Assembly, and pleased that the direction we are taking seems to be generally satisfying to you.

 SPRING GENERAL ASSEMBLY –Thank you to all our school community who came last Saturday for the GA. Your support in school endeavors in greatly appreciated. In particular, I hope you appreciated the effort made by the Discovery Staff and Teachers to provide peripheral support and activities.  I understand that the attendance was outstanding!  Thank you all.  Also appreciated were the effective presentations by the DPTO, the Board, and Ms. Gloria Palacios on my behalf.  Congratulations to the new Board Members.  The community may expect redoubled efforts to continue the improvement of the Discovery School approach to the education of the most important members of our community—the Students!

THANK YOU, DPTO – We wish to thank the DPTO for the delicious lunch that was offered to all Discovery School employees for Teacher Appreciation Day last Friday. Your hard work and willingness to serve is greatly appreciated.

EARLY DISMISSAL WEDNESDAY – Please remember that our students will be dismissed at 11:45 this Wednesday, May 20. Our teachers will be working on the AdvancedEd Accreditation process that afternoon. We will be following P.M. Schedule that day.

DISCOVERY IDOL – Our annual talent show will take place this Wednesday, May 20 at 10:30 a.m. Parents are welcome to attend!

SCHOOL AWARDS CEREMONY - The Discovery School Staff and Administration will recognize all students that have represented the school and have had an outstanding participating in the different events throughout the school year. This ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 21 at 1:30 p.m.

DPTO GARAGE SALE – The annual DPTO garage sale, previously scheduled for Saturday, May 23, has been cancelled.  We thank the DPTO for their excellent intentions.

END OF THE YEAR RECUP EXAMS FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL - Please take note of the following information:
·         There will be one (1) “recuperation week” at the end of the school year (June 15 – 19).
·         Passing grade is 70%.
·         “Retrasada” class – only 1 subject is allowed to be taken the following school year.
·         If the student fails 2 or more subjects at the end of his/her “recuperation” week, he/she will need to repeat the school year.

SEMESTER EXAMS FOR GRADES 8 – 12 only:
Last day to introduce new material – Thursday, May 21
Review days – Friday, May 22, Monday, May 25, and Tuesday, May 26
Semester Exams – Wednesday, May 27, Thursday, May 28, and Friday, May 29
MERLIN SCHOOL PICTURES – The pictures orders and other products have arrived, and will be sent home this week!
                                                                 
MINUTA SALE - Discovery's Helping Hands, the community service club led by Mrs. Agurcia, will be selling minutas (snow cones) Friday, May 22, during lunch and after school to raise funds for Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos, a children's home. Each minuta will cost L. 15 and there will be a variety of flavors to choose from. Please help us support this wonderful organization!

PINEAPPLE AND PAPAYA INITIATIVE – The planting of papayas and pineapples has begun! Thanks to all the students who brought the pineapple crowns, but we still need more!!! Please bring them to Ms. Cristiana’s room, and be a part of this wonderful project!

For Nursery to 4th Grade :
SUMMER CAMPDiscovery Zone 6 is back! Get an early registration! The Summer Camp will run from June 8-26, from 8:00 to 11: 50 a.m.  Please ask Ms. Valencia Duron for more information vduron@discoveryschool.edu.hn

UNA NOTA PERSONAL: Mi esposa Ivania y yo, deseamos agradecer a la comunidad por sus expresiones de condolencias que hemos recibido por el fallecimiento de mi padre. Me siento muy orgulloso que la comunidad llevara a cabo de manera exitosa la Asamblea General de primavera, y me alegra saber que la dirección que estamos tomando es de su agrado.

ASAMBLEA GENERAL DE PRIMAVERA – Agradecemos a toda nuestra comunidad escolar que asistieron el sábado pasado a la Asamblea General. Su apoyo incondicional es grandemente apreciado. En particular, espero que hayan apreciado el esfuerzo que el personal y maestros de Discovery hicieron para coordinar actividades. Entiendo que la asistencia estuvo impresionante! Les agradezco a todos. También agradecemos la presentación tan efectiva del DPTO, la Junta Directiva, y de Ms. Gloria Palacios en mi nombre. Felicidades a los nuevos miembros de la Junta. Nosotros redoblaremos esfuerzos para continuar con las mejoras de la Escuela Discovery en el enfoque de la educación a los miembros más importantes de la comunidad—los alumnos!

AGRADECIMIENTO AL DPTO – Deseamos expresar nuestro agradecimiento al DPTO por el delicioso almuerzo ofrecido a todo el personal de la Escuela Discovery por el Día de Apreciación al maestro, el viernes pasado. Su arduo trabajo y deseo de servir es grandemente apreciado.

SALIDA TEMPRANA EL MIERCOLES – Favor recuerde que nuestros alumnos saldrán a las 11:45 a.m. este miércoles 20 de mayo. Nuestros maestros estarán trabajando en el proceso de acreditación con AdvancED durante la tarde. Ese día seguiremos el horario PM.

IDOLO DE DISCOVERY – Nuestro concurso anual de talento se realizará el miércoles 20 de mayo, a las 10:30 a.m. Los padres están invitados a asistir!

CEREMONIA DE PREMIACIONES – El personal docente y administrativo de la Escuela Discovery reconoce a todos los alumnos que han representado a la escuela y que han tenido una ejemplar participación en los diferentes eventos a través del año escolar. Esta ceremonia se llevará a cabo el jueves 21 de mayo, a la 1:30 p.m.

VENTA DE GARAJE DEL DPTO – La venta de garaje anual previamente programada para este sábado 23 de mayo, ha sido cancelada. Agradecemos al DPTO por sus excelentes intenciones.

EXAMENES DE RECUPERACION DE FIN DE AÑO PARA SECUNDARIA – Favor tome nota que la siguiente información:
·         Tendremos una (1) “semana de recuperación” al final del año escolar (15 al 19 de junio).
·         La nota para pasar es 70%.
·         Clase “retrasada” – solamente es permitida tener 1 clase para el siguiente año escolar.
·         Si el alumnos falla 2 o más clases al final de su semana de “recuperación”, necesitará repetir el año escolar.

EXAMENES SEMESTRALES PARA LOS GRADOS DE 8-12 solamente –
Ultimo día para dar nuevo material – jueves 21 de mayo
            Días de repaso – viernes 22 de mayo, lunes 25 de mayo, y martes 26 de mayo.

FOTOGRAFIAS ESCOLARES MERLIN – Ya llegaron las fotografías y otros productos ordenados, y serán enviados a casa esta semana!

VENTA DE MINUTAS – Manos solidarias de Discovery, un Club de servicio comunitario dirigido por Mrs. Agurcia, estará vendiendo minutas este viernes 22 de mayo, durante la hora de almuerzo y después de clases para recolectar fondos para Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos, una casa hogar. Cada minuta tendrá un valor de Lps.15 y tendrán una variedad de sabores de donde escoger. Favor ayúdenos a apoyar a esta maravillosa organización!

INICIATIVA DE PIÑA Y PAPAYA – El cultivo de papayas y piñas ha comenzado! Agradecemos a todos los alumnos que han traído  las coronas de las piñas, pero todavía necesitamos más!!!  Favor tráigalas al aula de Ms. Cristiana, y sea parte de este maravilloso proyecto!
