The Last Week of School!

LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL – We wish to encourage parents to provide reading materials in both Spanish and English for their children over the vacation months.  Feel free to consult with your child’s classroom teacher for recommendations.

BOARD NOTES – The Discovery School Board reminds current parents who intend to register an additional child for the upcoming school year (2015-2016) that they have until July 15, 2015 to register their (additional) children paying the capital fee for 2014-2015.  After that day, all registrations will be subject to the new capital fee.

MERLIN SCHOOL PICTURES – The pictures orders and other products have arrived, and to prevent any damage to the pictures and/or products, they are available for pick up in Ms. Karla Soto’s office (in the reception area).

SCHOOL YEARBOOK 2014-2015:  Our yearbooks (printed in the US) have finally arrived, and will be sold this week.  You can pre-order your copy with Ms. Karla Soto stopping by her office or emailing her at dsmarketing@discoveryschool.edu.hn.  Save your copy before we run out of yearbooks.  Don’t miss out on having your school memories!

END OF THE YEAR RECUP EXAMS FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL - Please take note of the following information:

·         There will be one (1) “recuperation week” at the end of the school year (June 15 – 19).

·         Passing grade is 70%.

·         “Retrasada” class – only 1 subject is allowed to be taken the following school year.

·         If the student fails 2 or more subjects at the end of his/her “recuperation” week, he/she will need to repeat the school year.

SEMESTER EXAMS FOR GRADES 8 – 12 only:

Review days – Monday, May 25, and Tuesday, May 26

Semester Exams – Wednesday, May 27, Thursday, May 28, and Friday, May 29

FROM THE COUNSELOR’S OFFICE:

·         For the 9^th graders: The school will soon be ordering the PSAT exams. The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a program cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). It's a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT^®. It also gives you a chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools.

·         The school will administer the PSAT exam on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 @ 8:00 a.m.

The cost of the exam is $25.00.

·         The PSAT exam is mandatory for all upcoming 10^th graders. Additional information about this exam and its payment was sent home last week in a letter.

  

PINEAPPLE AND PAPAYA INITIATIVE – The planting of papayas and pineapples has begun! Thanks to all the students who brought the pineapple crowns, but we still need more!!! Please bring them to Ms. Cristiana’s room, and be a part of this wonderful project!

For Nursery to 4^th Grade :

SUMMER CAMP – Discovery Zone 6 is back! Get an early registration! The Summer Camp will run from June 8-26, from 8:00 to 11: 50 a.m.  Please ask Ms. Valencia Duron for more information vduron@discoveryschool.edu.hn  

Última semana de clases!

ULTIMA SEMANA DE CLASES -  Deseamos animar a los padres a proveerles a sus hijos de material de lectura tanto en inglés como en español durante los meses de vacaciones. Siéntase en la libertad de consultar con el maestro guía de sus hijos para que les den recomendaciones.

NOTAS DE LA JUNTA – La Junta Directiva de la Escuela Discovery le recuerda a los padres que van a matricular a algún otro hijo(a) a la escuela en el próximo año escolar (2015-2016) que tienen hasta el 15 de julio para matricular a su hijo (de nuevo ingreso) con el valor del fondo de inversión del 2014-2015. Después de esa fecha, todas las matriculas serán sujetas al nuevo fondo de inversión.

FOTOGRAFIAS ESCOLARES MERLIN – Ya llegaron las fotografías y otros productos ordenados, y para prevenir cualquier daño a las fotos y/u otros productos, estos están disponibles para recoger en la oficina de Ms. Karla Soto (en el área de recepción).

ANUARIO ESCOLAR 2014-2015: Nuestros anuarios (impresos en USA) finalmente han llegado, y se venderán esta semana. Puede pre-ordenar una copia con Ms. Karla Soto pasando por su oficina o enviándole un email a dsmarketing@discoveryschool.edu.hn . Ordene su copia antes que se terminen. No pierda la oportunidad de obtener sus memorias escolares!

EXAMENES DE RECUPERACION DE FIN DE AÑO PARA SECUNDARIA – Favor tome nota que la siguiente información:

·         Tendremos una (1) “semana de recuperación” al final del año escolar (15 al 19 de junio).

·         La nota para pasar es 70%.

·         Clase “retrasada” – solamente es permitida tener 1 clase para el siguiente año escolar.

·         Si el alumnos falla 2 o más clases al final de su semana de “recuperación”, necesitará repetir el año escolar.

EXAMENES SEMESTRALES PARA LOS GRADOS DE 8-12 solamente –

Ultimo día para dar nuevo material – jueves 21 de mayo

            Días de repaso – viernes 22 de mayo, lunes 25 de mayo, y martes 26 de mayo.

            Exámenes semestrales – miércoles 27 de mayo, jueves 28 de mayo, y viernes 29 de mayo

DE LA OFICINA DE LA CONSEJERIA:

·         Para los alumnos de 9no grado: Muy pronto la escuela estará ordenando los exámenes PSAT. El Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) es un programa copatrocinado por el College Board y National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Es un examen estándar que proporciona a primera mano al los exámenes SAT^®. También le da la oportunidad de entrar a programas de becas NMSC y obtener acceso a las herramientas de planeación de universidades y carreras.

·         La escuela administrará el examen PSAT el día miércoles 14 de octubre, 2015 a las 8:00 a.m. El costo del exámenes es de $25.00.

·         Los exámenes PSAT son obligatorios para todos los alumnos que van a 10mo grado. Información adicional acerca de este examen y su costo fue enviado a casa la semana pasada en una carta.

INICIATIVA DE PIÑA Y PAPAYA – El cultivo de papayas y piñas ha comenzado! Agradecemos a todos los alumnos que han traído  las coronas de las piñas, pero todavía necesitamos más!!!  Favor tráigalas al aula de Ms. Cristiana, y sea parte de este maravilloso proyecto!

Para alumnos de Maternal hasta 4to grado:

CAMPAMENTO DE VERANO – Discovery Zone 6 está de regreso! Matricúlese temprano! El campamento de verano empezará desde el 8 al 26 de junio, de 8:00 a 11:50 a.m. Favor consulte a Ms. Valencia Duron para obtener mayor información vduron@discoveryschool.edu.hn
