MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD
PRESIDENT - Thank you to everyone who joined us for the General Assembly this
Saturday. Although there were no decisions to be made at the meeting, it served
as an important occasion to exchange information and meet
new members from the Discovery School community. As the stakeholders of the
school, your engagement and participation are critical to building our
community and ensuring the success of the school and its students, our
children. Over 40 families were represented at the meeting on Saturday; however
we hope to see many more of you at the next meeting in January and throughout
the year. There are many ways to get involved with the school.

this Wednesday, September 30 at 1:00pm in the Information Centre. Please join

include the DPTO, volunteering in your kids’ classroom, or participating in and
volunteering at events.

receive information about the SACS accreditation process and the upcoming visit
of the External Review Team (October 19-22), and will have an opportunity to
ask questions and discuss “the life of Discovery.” J

SPONSORED BY JUNIORS - This Thursday, October 1st,
the Junior class will be selling treats during snack and recess, in order to
raise money for their upcoming community service. Don´t forget to to support
our students!

DEVELOPMENT THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2 – We want to
remind our parents that this Friday is an early dismissal day (11:45 a.m.) for
our students. We will be following A.M. Schedule.

Movie Morning Fun – The DPTO will be showing Hotel Transylvania 2 at Novacentro this
Saturday, October 3 at 10:30 a.m. The movie will be shown in English! Tickets
are very limited! They will be first sold during the General Assembly this
Saturday, and the following week. The price of each ticket is Lps. 250 and it
includes the entrance to the movie and your choice of combos of popcorn and

UN Day Preparations- The DPTO has
begun preparations for our school UN DAY celebration on Friday, October 30,
from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. All school families are invited to participate and
represent their country of origin. If you have a typical outfit from your
country, and would like to participate in the annual showcase, please contact

ADVANCED EXTERNAL
REVIEW TEAM (ERT) VISIT- The school continues preparing for the
AdvancED team visit October 18-22. The ERT group has issued an open invitation
for parents to meet with them on Tuesday,
October 20, from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. The Early Childhood and Elementary
parents will meet in the 2nd Floor Conference Room, and the Middle and High
School Parents will meet in the Community Information Center. Please mark your
calendars/agendas if you are interested in coming and being a part of this
accreditation process.
MAP TESTS– Our MAP testing session continues this week.
The schedule we will follow can be found at the end of this memo.
CHANGES
IN THE OCTOBER HOLIDAYS – We have received official word that a decree was
issued in Congress changing the October holidays to October 7, 8, and 9. We will be complying and
changing the holidays. We are asking our teachers to be understanding and
flexible with those families that have purchased tickets for trips at the end
of October and cannot move them. Be as accommodating as possible in helping
students with missed work and content.

BAZAAR -- LOOKING FOR VENDORS- Discovery’s Helping
Hands Club, a community service club that benefits the children of the Nuestros

HELPING
HANDS -- COMMUNITY SERVICE CLUB- Sunday, October 4th
will be out next visit to Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos orphanage. The club is open to all Discovery families
and Secondary students. Secondary
students should attend the meeting on Tuesday, September 29th at
lunch in Mrs. Agurcia’s Room (Rm. 7).

FUNDACION
ABRIGO – Once again, Discovery School supports Fundación Abrigo in their
mission to lodge families from the rural areas who come to Hospital Escuela. We are asking our school families
to send 1
gallon of
floor disinfectant per family, and to send it in by Friday, October 30. What a
wonderful way to show our gratitude for what we have – to share what we have
with those in need!

MENSAJE DEL PRESIDENTE DE LA JUNTA DIRECTIVA – Agradecemos a todos los que nos acompañaron a la
Asamblea General del pasado sábado. Aunque no se tuvieron que tomar decisiones
en la reunión, nos sirvió como una ocasión importante para intercambiar información
y conocer a nuevos miembros de la comunidad de la Escuela Discovery. Como constituyentes
de la escuela, su compromiso y participación son críticas para el
fortalecimiento y aseguramiento del éxito de la escuela y los alumnos, nuestros
hijos. Más de 40 familias fueron representadas en la reunión del sábado; sin
embargo, esperamos ver muchos más de ustedes en la próxima reunión de enero y
durante el año. Existen diversas formas de involucrarse con la escuela.

Preparativos para Día de Naciones Unidas – El DPTO ha iniciado los preparativos para la celebración
de nuestra escuela del Día de Naciones Unidas este viernes 30 de octubre, desde
las 8:30 a.m. a las 11:30 a.m. Todas las familias de la escuela están invitadas
a participar y representar a su país de origen. Si tiene un traje típico de su país,

VISITA DEL EQUIPO DE REVISION EXTERNA (ERT) DE
ADVANCED – La escuela continua preparándose
para la visita del equipo de AdvancED del 18 – 22 de octubre. El ERT ha
extendido una invitación abierta a los padres para reunirse con ellos el día martes 20 de octubre, de 2:15 a 3:15
p.m. Los padres de pre-escolar y primaria se reunirán en el 2do piso en
la Sala de Reuniones, y los padres de secundaria se reunirán en el Centro de Información.
Favor marque su calendario/agenda en caso que esté interesado en asistir y ser
parte de este proceso de acreditación.
EXÁMENES MAP – Nuestra sesión de exámenes MAP continúa esta semana. El horario esta
detallado al final de este memo.
CAMBIOS EN LOS FERIADOS DE OCTUBRE – Hemos
recibido comunicado oficial que un decreto se emitió en el Congreso cambiando
los feriados de octubre para el 7, 8 y 9 de octubre. Estaremos cumpliendo y cambiando los
feriados.
Pedimos a nuestros maestros que comprendan y sean flexibles con aquellas
familias que han comprado boletos para los viajes a finales de octubre y que no
se puedan cambiar. Sean serviciales lo
mas que puedan para que ayuden a los alumnos con el trabajo y contenido
perdido.

MANOS AMIGAS – CLUB DE SERVICIO COMUNITARIO – El domingo 4 de octubre será nuestra visita al
orfanato de Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos. El club está abierto a todas las
familias de Discovery y a alumnos de secundaria. Los alumnos de secundaria
deben asistir a la reunión el martes 29 de septiembre, durante el almuerzo, en
el aula de Mrs. Agurcia (aula 7). Cualquiera que esté interesado en

FUNDACION ABRIGO – Una vez más, la
Escuela Discovery está apoyando a la Fundación Abrigo en su misión de dar
habitación a las familias de las áreas rurales que van al Hospital Escuela. Estamos
solicitando a las familias de la escuela que envíen 1 galón de desinfectante de
piso por familia, para antes del viernes 30 de octubre. Que maravillosa manera
de mostrar nuestra gratitud por lo que tenemos—compartiendo con aquellos que
tienen necesidad!
