DEVELOPMENT WEDNESDAY – This Wednesday, November 25
students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.
TEST
TAKING STRATEGIES WORKSHOP – This Wednesday,
Nov. 25 we will be having a
follow-up session to our Test –Taking
Strategies Workshop from 12:30- 2:30
p.m. This is the follow- up to the presentation we gave last week. We
strongly recommend for all our 6th graders to attend; however,
attendance to this workshop is OPTIONAL.
We
will be discussing the different types of strategies that can be applied
depending on the type of test you are taking (True/False, Multiple Choice,
Short Answer, Fill-in-the-blank). Students will also have the opportunity to do
some practice tests applying the strategies.
Please sign and return the letter sent last
week, if you give permission to your child to attend. Also take note that Nov.
25 is half-school day and bus transportation will not be available. Students
will be required to bring their own lunch, a clip board and pencil to this
session. Parents will be required to pick up their child promptly at 2:30 p.m.

staff, such as canned goods, instant soups, cookies and crackers, or anything
else that does not require refrigeration.
Please send these contributions
before Thanksgiving, Wednesday, November 25! There is no greater way to give
thanks than by sharing with those less fortunate!
JUGUETON 2015 – Our school has been invited to participate in the First Lady’s
Christmas drive to give toys to the children less fortunate of Honduras. The
school will be making a donation as an institution, but would like to invite
our students and parents to go through their closets and find toys in good
shape to donate for this activity. There will be a box in the reception area
(with Ms. Carolina) where the toys can be dropped off. We will be delivering
what we contribute as a school on Wednesday, December 9.
MARK YOUR
CALENDARS FOR SONGFEST - Songfest will take place on Friday, Dec. 11, beginning
at 6:30 p.m. The DPTO will be selling food and
refreshments.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES – We remind parents that ALL after school activities will
begin at 3:15 p.m. and will end at 4: 15 p.m. We ask parents to be prompt in
picking the students up from after school activities.
NEWSCAST
PROJECT FOR THE ELEMENTARY STUDENTS – the
Elementary School students will be embarking in a new project during the second

BAKE SALE – The
Juniors will be having a bake sale in order to raise funds for their upcoming
community service. The bake sale will be on Friday, December 4 during snack and
lunch.
MIDDLE SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS
– Unfortunately, we were not able to reach quorum to organize the different
field trips (Copan – 6th grade, Lake Yojoa – 7th grade,
and Tela – 8th grade). The initial payment will be reimbursed on Wednesday, November 25. Please, see
Belgica in the Finance Office for the reimbursement.
EARLY ANNOUNCEMENT: Discovery School will host the Sunshine
School in a friendly competition--basketball and mini-cancha futbol, grades
2-8, on January 29. Last year's event was a great success and we look
forward to another fun-filled day with a lot of school spirit.
NEWS FOR THE SECONDARY:
SECONDARY BASKETBALL: Parents of all basketball players interested in continuing
the season during second semester are invited to attend a meeting hosted by Dr.
Ketterer and Ms. Gloria Palacios to discuss proposed solutions, the location of
practices, and additional costs. This includes, of course, parents who
attended the meeting in early November. The meeting will be in the
Conference Room at 8:00 a.m. on December 8.
HOMEWORK CLUB
FOR SECONDARY – Secondary students will have the
opportunity to receive assistance with homework twice a week. Ms Regina will be
working with the students who wish to stay and work or specific students
referred by teachers.

**Parents are
asked to please read the Midterm Progress Report – some students have been
required to attend the Homework Club, other students have been invited to
attend. This is being done to help students improve their grades.
ELECTRONIC
DEVICES (cell phones, tablets, laptops,
etc) – Students may bring their electronic devices to school with the
understanding the school will not be responsible for any loss or damage. We
advise all students to care good care of their electronic devices and to avoid
leaving them on the floor or outside of rooms.
LOCKERS
– The school has provided a locker to all secondary students for the purpose of
protecting the student’s property, and preventing loss or theft. The lockers
need to be secured with a combination padlock at all times. The students are
responsible for the padlock and for seeing that their books and belongings are
locked in the locker when not in use.

REPORTES DE PROGRESO Y MEDIO PERIODO - Los
reportes se enviaron a casa el viernes 20 de noviembre. Deben ser firmados y
enviados de regreso a la escuela antes del feriado de Acción de Gracias. Si
desea tener una conferencia con un maestro, favor no dude comunicarse con la
escuela para concertar una cita.
MIERCOLES DE DESARROLLO PROFESIONAL – Este miércoles 25 de noviembre los alumnos saldrán
a las11:45 a.m.
TALLER DE ESTRATEGIAS PARA TOMAR EXÁMENES - Este próximo miércoles, 25 de
noviembre, en un horario de 12:30-2:30 p.m., tendremos la segunda parte de
nuestro Taller Estrategias Para Tomar Exámenes. Recomendamos fuertemente
que nuestros alumnos de sexto grado asistan, pero su asistencia NO ES
OBLIGATORIA.
Estaremos
discutiendo las diferentes estrategias que pueden ser aplicadas en las pruebas
dependiendo del tipo de examen (Verdadero/Falso, Selección Múltiple, Respuesta
Breve, Completar la Frase). Los estudiantes también tendrán la oportunidad de
hacer unos exámenes de práctica aplicando las diferentes estrategias.
Por favor
firmar y regresar la carta que se envió la semana pasada, si usted le da
permiso a su hijo/a de asistir. También tomar nota que el 25 de noviembre no es
un día completo de clases y que no habrá transporte de bus. Los estudiantes
deberán traer su propio almuerzo, un tablero y un lápiz para el taller. Los
padres deberán venir por sus hijos a las 2:30 p.m. en punto

JUGUETON 2015 – Nuestra escuela ha sido invitada a participar
en la campaña de Navidad de la Primera Dama para regalar juguetes a los niños
menos afortunados de Honduras. La escuela estará realizando una donación como
institución, pero queremos invitar a nuestros alumnos y padres a revisar sus
closets y encontrar juguetes en buen estado para donar a esta actividad.
Tendremos una caja en la recepción (con Ms. Carolina) donde pueden dejar los
juguetes. Estaremos entregando la contribución de la escuela el miércoles 9 de
diciembre.

CALENDARIO PARA EL SONGFEST – El Songfest se llevará a cabo
el día viernes 11 de diciembre comenzando a las 6:30 p.m. El DPTO estará vendiendo comida y
bebidas.
ACTIVIDADES
EXTRACURRICULARES – Les recordamos a los padres que TODAS las actividades
extracurriculares darán inicio a las 3:15 p.m. y terminan a las 4:15 p.m. Les
solicitamos a los padres que recojan a sus hijos puntualmente después de las
actividades extracurriculares.
PROYECTO NOTICIERO PARA LOS ALUMNOS DE PRIMARIA – Los alumnos de primaria estarán embarcándose en un
nuevo proyecto durante el segundo semestre de este año escolar. Para mayor

VENTA DE REPOSTERIA – Los juniors
estarán realizando una venta de reposteria para recaudar fondos para su futuro trabajo
educativo social. La venta se realizará el día viernes 4 de diciembre durante
el recreo y el almuerzo.
PASEOS DE ESCUELA MEDIA – Lamentablemente, no pudimos alcanzar el número de alumnos
para organizar los diferentes viajes/paseos (Copan – 6to grado, Lago
de Yojoa – 7mo grado, y Tela – 8vo grado). El pago
inicial se reembolsará el miércoles 25
de noviembre. Favor comuníquese con Belgica en la oficina de Contabilidad
para el reembolso.
ANUNCIO ANTICIPADO – La Escuela Discovery organizará junto a la Escuela
Sunshine una competencia amistosa de basquetbol y de mini cancha de futbol,
para los grados de 2-8, el 29 de enero. El evento del año pasado tuvo mucho
éxito y estamos esperando disfrutar de un día lleno de diversión y espíritu
escolar.
NOTICIAS PARA SECUNDARIA:
BASQUETBOL DE SECUNDARIA: Los padres de los jugadores de basquetbol que
estén interesados en continuar la temporada durante el segundo semestre están
invitados a asistir a una reunión organizada por el Dr. Ketterer y Ms. Gloria
Palacios para discutir las soluciones posibles, la ubicación de las practicas,
y los costos adicionales. Esto incluye, por supuesto, a los padres que
asistieron a la reunión de principios de noviembre. La reunión se realizará en
la Sala de Conferencias a las 8:00 a.m. el día 8 de diciembre.
CLUB DE TAREAS PARA SECUNDARIA – Los alumnos de secundaria tendrán la oportunidad
de recibir ayuda con la tarea dos veces por semana. Ms. Regina estará
trabajando con los alumnos que deseen quedarse y trabajar o alumnos específicos
referidos por los maestros.

**Se les pide a los padres que
lean el Reporte de Progreso de Medio periodo – algunos alumnos se les ha
solicitado asistir al Club de Tareas, a otros alumnos se les ha invitado
asistir. Se esta haciendo esto para ayudar a los alumnos a mejorar sus notas.
APARATOS ELECTRONICOS (celulares, tabletas, computadoras portátiles,
etc.) – Los alumnos pueden traer sus aparatos electrónicos a la escuela con el
entendimiento que la escuela no es responsable por ninguna pérdida o daño. Les
aconsejamos a los alumnos a cuidar de sus aparatos electrónicos y evitar
dejarlos en el piso o afuera de las aulas.
CASILLEROS – La escuela ha proporcionado un casillero para cada
alumno de secundaria con el propósito de proteger la propiedad de cada alumno,
y prevenir las perdidas o robos. Los casilleros deben estar asegurados con un
candado de combinación todo el tiempo. Los alumnos son responsables por el
candado y por estar pendientes que sus libros y pertenencias estén aseguradas
en el casillero cuando no los estén utilizando.
