END OF THE FIRST QUARTER / REPORT CARDS - Our first quarter ends this Friday, October 12. Our teachers and students are preparing themselves for the Student Led Conferences that will take place on Friday, October 19. Conferences are mandatory for the first quarter. Early Childhood and Elementary teachers will be sending notes home with a scheduled time for parents to come with their child. Middle and High School students and parents can come talk to teachers on a first come-first serve basis. Report Cards, Goal Setting Sheets and MAP reports will be shared on this day.

FIN DEL PRIMER TRIMESTRE / REPORTE DE CALIFICACIONES - Nuestro primer trimestre termina este viernes, 12 de octubre. Nuestros maestros y estudiantes se están preparando para las Conferencias de entrega de calificaciones dirigidas por estudiantes que se llevarán a cabo el viernes 19 de octubre. Las conferencias son obligatorias para el primer trimestre. Los maestros de Pre-escolar y Primaria enviarán una nota a casa con un horario programado para que los padres de familia vengan con sus hijos (as). Los estudiantes y padres de secundaria pueden venir a hablar con los maestros por orden de llegada. El Reporte de Calificaciones, las hojas de establecimiento de metas y los informes de MAP se compartirán en este día.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE/ RECYCLING PROJECT

ELEMENTARY STUDENTS - This year the Environmental Student Council will be holding elections again for Environmental Ambassadors on Tuesday, October 30th. We welcome any students who would like to be Environmental Ambassadors to prepare a short speech which will be presented at lunch Monday, October 29th. Students should be responsible, friendly individuals with a passion for helping the environment. If you are interested you can learn more at a short meeting with Mr. Andrew at lunch on Tuesday, October 9th.

ESTUDIANTES DE PRIMARIA - Este año, el Consejo de Estudiantes Ambientales celebrará elecciones nuevamente para Embajadores Ambientales el martes 30 de octubre. Damos la bienvenida a los estudiantes que deseen ser Embajadores Ambientales para preparar un breve discurso que se presentará en el almuerzo el lunes 29 de octubre. Los estudiantes deben ser personas responsables y amigables con una pasión por ayudar al medio ambiente. Si está interesado (a), puede enterarse de más información en una reunión corta con Mr. Andrew en el almuerzo el martes 9 de octubre.

The DPTO has begun working for our annual UN Day Celebration which will take place on Friday, October 26. As you all know, this celebration highlights the cultural diversity and richness which make Discovery School such a great place. We currently have 22 nationalities represented in our school, and are counting with our parents so that all of these nationalities are represented that day. Como todos ustedes saben, esta celebración destaca la diversidad y riqueza cultural que hacen de Discovery School, una excelente escuela. IMPORTANT
- ELECTRONIC DEVICES - as part of their school supplies, students are required to bring a laptop or a tablet with a keyboard in order to work in class. The use of cell phones as a working device will no longer be allowed as it not appropriate for typing and it also creates distraction with the use of social media. Laptops and tablets connect through our school’s wifi and allows us to control the child’s content.

ATTENDANCE - Traffic is difficult for everybody in the city. Please make the necessary arrangements so your child arrives to school before 7:55 am.

HOMEWORK CALENDAR –
This is a very useful tool to keep track of homework, quizzes and tests, etc. The homework calendar is located within every grade’s blog.

IMPORTANTE
- DISPOSITIVOS ELECTRÓNICOS: como parte de los útiles escolares, los estudiantes deben traer una computadora portátil o una tableta con un teclado para poder trabajar en clase. El uso de teléfonos celulares como un dispositivo de trabajo ya no se permitirá, ya que no es apropiado para escribir y también crea distracción con el uso de las redes sociales. Las computadoras portátiles y las tabletas se conectan a través del wifi de nuestra escuela y nos permiten controlar el contenido.

Scholastic News: Our first Scholastic Book Club leaflets of the school year were given out last week. This is an optional activity offered by the school, because we know you want to motivate your child to read at home. With your purchase, our library will accumulate points to redeem more books for the benefit of your children in our school. The due date to purchase the books online is October 9. The books will arrive to the school in one single delivery, and we will distribute them to the students according to their orders, approximately three weeks after the purchase due date.

Noticias de Scholastic – Los Catálogos del Club de libros de Scholastic para este año escolar se entregaron la semana pasada. Esta es una actividad opcional ofrecida por la escuela, ya que buscamos motivar a su hijo (a) para la lectura en casa. Con su compra, nuestra biblioteca acumulará puntos para canjear por más libros que beneficiarán a sus hijos (as) en la escuela. La fecha límite para la compra de los libros en línea es 9 de octubre. Los libros llegarán a la escuela en un solo paquete, y los distribuiremos a los estudiantes según el pedido, aproximadamente tres semanas después de la fecha límite de compra.
